  1. Almost any tire, radial or not, would have given you a big improvement over the stock Brickstones.
  2. Eagle Rider stores in Orlando and Miami have Goldwings and ST1300s
  3. I would say with that old a bike that has just been sitting, I would just buy all new jets and replace them all. Great engine, same as the Seca engine.. Shim in bucket, similar to the Royal Star, I think it even uses the same shims. Different tool to hold the bucket down though.
  4. From motorcycleUSA.com Bias and radial tires have significantly different dynamic properties. Bias. bias belted and radial tires have different construction types and therefore have different abilities to carry side and peripheral forces as well as having varied damping characteristics. The introduction of radial tires required changes to certain characteristics of the motorcycle. The development of the radial tire led to frame modifications, new steering geometries and suspensions. That's why it is recommended that a motorcycle be used with the type of tire construction that it came with originally. Do not mix bias ply and radial tires on the same motorcycle unless it has the approval of the motorcycle or tire manufacturer. personally on non sport/race bikes I don't see what difference it makes. Radial motorcycle tires, unlike radial car tires, are not designed to shift to keep the center of the tread on the ground, they roll just like a bias-ply tire. Sure they may feel different, and I can see why they really don't want people to mix, but other than that I would go with which ever gave me good performance with decent longevity for the best price. So far that is Avon Venoms for me.
  5. Yep, bigger pistons mean more torque, which is why harleys, while not having much HP, have plenty of torque. And if someone did do a V6 it would make sense to have it sideways like the Honda ST1300's V4.
  6. My wife wants one of those! But she doesn't want the full dress model.
  7. I have a www on the front, I ordered them www, but they came into the dealer only the front was white,, he gave me a good price so I didn't think it was worth worrying about.
  8. I'm sorry, you are correct they are not plastic. The original comment was not to cover the beautiful engine with plastic. My thought process was they are not real and are just for looks, so the engine was already being covered up. Not sure why I thought they were plastic. I guess they are aluminum.
  9. You do realize the FINS on you Royal Star engine are just plastic?
  10. The one problem with that line of thinking is that the current engine in all the Ventures is the SAME as a V-max 1200 engine. Sure on some it has been up sized to 1300, but no real other differences.
  11. If the update the Venture with the new V-max engine, when my warranty is up I will probably trade it in. If they don't I will probably keep it a bit longer, and when I get tired of it will switch to a Goldwing or BMWLT. If there is no water cooled Venture in the future, and for some unknown reason I am lured to an air cooled touring bike, it will probably be a Harley. But I doubt it.
  12. YOU SAID to measure at top dead center!!!!!! the ignition fires before top dead center, so the intake valve must be fully closed before top dead center and is surely on the round part by top dead center. The exhaust valve will not open until the piston has gone down is coming back up, so it has to be on the round part. Here is a relatively accurate diagram of a cylinder at TDC, and the cam lobe positions.
  13. I'm pretty sure Yamaha will soon, or already has ceased production on the RSV. And I would speculate it is because any Royal Star built after January 1st will have to meet the new EPA standards which would require fuel injection. If they will bring it back with FI, revamp it based on the new V-max engine, drop it and just produce a V-star, or Strat full dresser, or not produce any full dresser for 2011 are all possibilities. Although I doubt they will go with no full dresser, Kaw went years without a full dresser and recently decided the market had room for another. I actually read an article in an industry motorcycle sales mag, that speculated that one of the reasons Yamaha sales was so down was because they had not updated their top of the line touring model in so many years.
  14. Over 180 degrees of any cam, opposite from the lobe, is round. Measuring clearance anywhere on the round part should give you the same reading. The only reason to be a top dead center is that both cams will be somewhere on that round part for the cylinder at TDC and you can measure both intake and exhaust at the same time on that cylinder.
  15. Used mine for iced tea at work the other day, kept it cold until I finished it.
  16. I would think a second gen would be close to this if they moved the rev limiter to up around 7000rpm.
  17. 106 sounds about right,, remember the revlimiter kicks in at 5600 rpms, below the engines normal peak HP. If they let it rev it would make more HP, just like the old V-max. But, 98 HP with a 175lb rider gives you 10lbs per HP, so it should have about the same acceleration as a new Mustang GT. They are around 315hp and 3300lbs.
  18. It looks like a 65 Plymouth Barracuda scooter.
  19. Well I'm in North Florida and we are about 10 to 12 degrees cooler than South, but to answer your question, I am wearing a jacket right now, and I'm inside!!!! Of course they keep it about 71 in here at work because of all the computer equipment.

    Tires

From what I have gathered about the Mtez, is appears that most if not all the chunking problems are on the tires made in Brazil, check the side of your tire and see if it says Brazil or Germany. If it says Germany it will be in fairly large print, if it says Brazil it will be in pretty small print. To me that says volumes. I switched from Brickstones to Avons with the smaller front, HUGE difference. And having come from sport bikes when I was younger I love the lighter feel. The smaller front Avon also has a higher load rating than almost any stock size front tire. And the stock size Avon rear has a higher load rating than either tire that Yamaha uses from the factory. I think the E3 rear also has a higher load rating than stock.
  21. Ummm, I have had issues making a clutch slip using energy conserving auto oil,, back on an older Yamaha 750, and I would not recommend using energy conserving auto oil in any wet clutch motorcycle, but that does not mean you will have problems. Of course the stock clutch springs on a Royal Star are know for being week and slipping earlier than many other bikes anyway, this is a concern to me. I switched to Mobil 1 Motorcycle oil and my whine was greatly reduced. If you are avoiding the motorcycle oil because of price, Mobil 1 does make an auto oil that is not energy conserving. You use to be able to tell because it had a red cap, they have done away with the red cap so you have to look on the back of the bottle now. I have used the non energy conserving Mobil 1 auto oil on several bikes before the Venture with no problems ever. I switched to the motorcycle oil when I got the Venture more because I figured if I could afford a new Venture I could afford the better oil, not because I ever had any problems with other non evergy conserving oils I had used.

    Free Food

My wife watches very closely and often catches mistakes. Both our local store will correct it without question, even if we catch it after we get home and go back. Last time we got over charged for deli chicken, didn't noticed until after we got home. The next day Mary went back and they deducted the entire amount we paid for the chicken from what she was buying then, and gave her another order of chicken free. We use our debit card most of the time, and I have noticed that occasionally chargers will never get to my bank. About two or three a year will never come through. As great as high tech stuff is, and as much as I like it, high tech things have their own set of problems.
  23. Most Kawasakis have adjustable levers, and I know the new Voyager has a hydraulic clutch. Not sure if the lever would fit, or if you would have to change the whole reservoir. But you might check out several of the Kaws, one of the levers off their bikes might fit..
  24. That is what I did!!!
  25. So what he is saying is if you bend down measure it while someone else pushes the horn button one will show +12V and one will show 0V. And a week later you will be able to hear again.!!
