  1. First Turn sounds good,, so unless I hear different, Sat around noon at First Turn Steak House http://firstturnsteakhouse.net/directions.html
  2. OK, so far it looks like later Friday afternoon, or Saturday around 2pm! Can we get a consensus? If so we can start working on a place.
  3. Let's start by finding what days are best for most people, I can make it Fri, Sat, or Sun.
  4. Ahhh!!! make that Saturday the 17th and during the day Thurs and Fri the 15th and 16th. If enough people decide on the Fri I should be able to get that day off too.
  5. I'm betting most the guys that don't like the heal/toe shifter wear size 10 or larger shoe!!!! It took me about a month to get use to it, now I hardly even think about it, but I wear an 8 1/2 shoe, and have a fair amount of room to move my foot around.
  6. Gotcha,, so next time you are stranded by the side of the road and need a VR.org member to assist you, just send us an E-mail, we'll get right back to ya!!
  7. Did you try calling the toll free number???
  8. I bought a blemished XXL Clearview and I can't see any blemishes on it??
  9. It seems to me you should be OK as long as you don't go over the 761lbs load limit on the front tire, or the 827lbs limit on the back tire. I switched to the Avons with the narrow front tire, which has the 827lbs limit on the front and has 992lbs limit for the rear tire, which should have increased my safe load limit by over 200lbs.
  10. On the RS engine the max torque is around 4700rpms, max HP is at 6000rpms, but the rev limiter stops the engine at 5600rpms. The original version of this engine was the 1200cc in the V-max which had a redline of 8300rpms. Even if you managed to rev the engine 2000rpms past the rev limiter you wouldn't hurt the engine.
  11. I plan to be down there Saturday the 18th. And maybe during the day 16th and 17th, but I have to work evenings both those days so not too sure about them.
  12. I guess I will have to disagree. I changed my tires very early, the front was still round and new looking. I switched from the factory Brickstone to the Avon in a 130 size. Not that I had any problem with handling with the stock tires, but the smaller Avon made a serious difference. As someone else said, from day one in slow speed maneuvers on the RSV I had to keep pressure on the bars for it to turn, with the new tire it falls into the corner like it is suppose to. Of course it is true that some people don't like that feeling and prefer the larger tire, but coming from sport and sport-touring bikes, I do.
  13. I've read a couple of reviews of Electric Glides and Road Kings vs RSTD and RSV.. both of the older reviews (way back in 2005) the Yamahas got the nod for better handling, feel and power. But the latest review (Road King vs RSTD) the Yamaha has not changed (as we all know) but the Road King got a bigger more powerful engine (still doesn't compete with the RSTD top end, but now has much more torque), and adjustable floorboards. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/0802_crup_harley_davidson_road_king/index.html

    gear oil?

I use Mobil 1 75w-90 synthetic gear oil.
  15. I have read the threads I could find so far.. but I notice a few have said theirs clicks when they hook up before their passenger. But once the passenger hooks up it goes away. That is my problem. And seeing I ride solo a fair amount but still want to be able to use the CB and my cell phone (through the Zumo) but the clicking is driving me crazy. Anyone come up with a easy solution to this? Or will I need to completely shield the cabling back to the passenger connection?
  16. +1 Any tire manufactured more than 6 years ago is a blowout waiting to happen, that goes for cars, trucks, motorcycles, anything. If you buy a tire from a dealer that appears to be brand new, and the manufacture date is more than 6 years ago, it is dangerous.
  17. I find that hard to believe seeing as Federal EPA standards change for motorcycles for 2010, and from what I read the Royal Star carbureted engine does not meet 2010 standards. If that is true, and Yamaha makes no changes there will be no 2010 Royal Star, at least not in the US.. May be a Canadian/European only model and they will keep shipping left over 2009 models to US dealers.
  18. Strange looking bike, and I have heard complaints that the bags shape limits the amount of gear they will hold.. For frame mounted have you test rode the BMW K1200LT I personally almost bought the BMW instead of the RSV. I REALLY liked it, handled great and had a better stereo. But the RSV was a touch more comfortable to me, (wife thought the LT was more comfortable) plus the 5 year warranty, price and dealer network pushed me to the Yamaha.
  19. that's my excuse too, I work weekends until October.
  20. I canceled my XM subscription when I got my Zumo 550 and now just use the MP3 player. I finally got around to taking the mounts off the bike and out of my Jeep. I use to move it back and forth so I have a Roady XT, two mounts, two docking stations, two antennae, and two power cords. I also have the front brake mount and adapter washers and screws if anybody wants the whole set up. Cheapest I see them on E bay new is $65, plus shipping, with one power supply and one antenna.. I don't remember what I paid for the brake reservoir mount. I'll take $50 shipped , in the US, for everything.

    New Tires

Wow, not sure why they would do that. My Avons were manufactured mid 07, I had them installed spring 08 and have 4000 miles since installed,,,(usually put on 8k to 10k but have been sick this summer) and mine look like new both tread and side walls. What pressure do you run? I keep mine up near max pressure.

    New Tires

I would be interested to know what the manufacture date and how old the tires were when they failed. Any tire over 6 years old is a potential hazard, even if it has never been on a bike. Personally I want a tire that was made less than a year from when I have it installed. That is one of the reasons I hesitate to buy tires from discount internet sites, who knows how long they have been sitting around.
  23. Any online account that doesn't have anything to do with money (motorcycle forums, jeep forums, aquarium forums) I use the same user id and password. At home I let firefox keep track for me.. which means sometimes when I'm at work or don't have my laptop with me and I can't remember a password I have to wait until I get home to access an account. My home computer and my laptop are always turned off if I'm not using them and no one uses them but me. --- Passwords, firewalls, and such are fine, but physical security is your first and best line of defense.
  24. I've owned a dozen new motorcycles so far and always have taken it easy on them during break-in but never as easy as the manual says. I've never had a problem caused by doing it that way.
