  1. Here's my take.... The Trike kit is not "factory" so the warranty would not cover disassembling and reassembling non-factory addon's to do a warranty repair. Replacing the bearings would not be warranty either since they are not the problem but since the engine is apart, it doesn't hurt to inspect and replace any worn components. If the bearings (or any other component) were damaged as a result of the warranteeable failure, then they too should be covered under warranty. (just my 3 cents)
  2. I am also installing the RK mufflers on mine (once I get them) ... could you elaborate on "wider clamp" ... is this a Harley clamp or exactly what and where would a guy get this?
  3. Kinda wakes a guy up in a hurry huh!!! Could it be that the guy thought you were going to go into the first turn lane and figured it was safe to walk? Hope ya blasted your horn at him and woke him up! Some people (pedestrians) just seem to figure that they have the right of way...no matter what and the vehicle driver should just stop for them regardless.
  4. I had the same problem on my '85. My '87 seems to last longer (meaning it can sit longer than my '85 did before this problem happens). I haven't had to do this to my '87 yet but with my '85 I put a bit of gas into a spray bottle, removed the air cleaner cover and sprayed a bit of gas right down the carbs while I was cranking it. It would fire up but if I tried to crack the throttle even a little bit, it would die. Spray a bit more gas to keep it going for a couple minutes and then it would idle fine... don't touch the throttle for a while to allow things to warm up.
  5. Was at the big motorcycle show yesterday and came across this... http://www.tent-trailer.com/ Made right here in British Columbia! Also got to check out the new Kaw Voyager. I gotta admit, I do like it although, as many of you have noticed, the plastics, especially the side bags, seemed quite flimsy. When the top lid was open, the entire bag would flex very easily and it seemed as though it wouldn't take much to break the bag. Sticker price was $20,989.00
  6. heh... the recommended shift point from 4th to 5th is 50 kilometers/hr .... ???? Do these people actually RIDE these bikes or what??? sheeeesh!
  7. Hey! that works for me! What's your choice of rum? I drink Demerara (Lemon Hart brand around these parts)
  8. ok, so I'm wondering (coz I've never really seen it for real) ... but what happens to the antifreeze mix when the temp reaches it's "protection level". I mean, if it's good to minus 27 and the temp gets to minus 30, does it actually freeze? I suspect it maybe turns to a jelly form. In order to cause any real damage to the engine, I would think that ALL of the fluid within the engine has to freeze SOLID to the point that it has expanded significantly to either pop the frost plugs or crack something. I'm wondering at just what point does the antifreeze mix reach this state "below" it's "protective level"? anyone have theories on this?
  9. I use Turtle Wax chrome polish and double 0 ( 00 ) steel wool on the really bad areas. Been using that product for years and always does a great job. Of course there's never any "really bad areas" on my scoot! Actually, when I pulled the mufflers off my '87 for the first time, there was a lot of road crap and some rust on the inside surfaces... the Turtle wax and steel wool cleaned that up real nice.
  10. come to think of it...... I did notice doing that stopped it.... for a while...
  11. Well it's been a few days..or maybe weeks I can't remember (LOL) since I built the bracket and installed the switches...(guess I could look at the date on my original post now couldn't I?) but just now getting around to hooking them up to something. Got these little lights at Wal-Mart for $39. Built a couple brackets outta some left-over aluminum, bought a Bosch relay and wired em up to my aux fuse box that I installed using info from this site. Gotta tell ya... all the "how-to's" in here just FORCE a person to do things to his scoot!! LOL
  12. cool! clock??? hmmmm I haven't noticed that yet... guess I better read the owners manual LOL
  13. Another post jogged my memory to ask about this. I notice on my '06 that when the low fuel indicator comes on, the mileage indicator changes to the trip meter. Is this normal? Can it be stopped? Does anyone else have this happen and do you find it a good thing?

    SNOW

Our snow is slowly melting but for the past week, we've been blanketed with FOG (see the pic). Down at ground level the temps have been hovering around plus 2 celcius in the daytime yet up top on the ski hills (where the sun is shining), the temps have been up to plus 20... mebbe I should take the scoot up to the ski slopes and ride LOL pic is a shot of Vancouver at sunrise
  15. Do you (or does anyone) happen to have a pic of some sort that shows the illumination pattern for these and if possible, how that compares to the illumnation pattern of actual "driving lamps" (since these lights are supposedly "passing lamps" and are supposed to be on only when the low beams are on).
  16. Does a trucker NOT downshift for a grade? I think "everyone" knows that engine braking is only a sensible thing to do and I've never heard of it causing damage unless the gear chosen causes the engine to over-rev. Heck, I even downshift in my truck which is automatic when I'm descending a steep hill.
  17. I wuz just takin a "shot" at Shot ... I knew about the change .... I figgured it was an ideal opportunity to get a "cheap shot" in ... and I just know that one of you guyz is gonna give me a "shot" right back! welcome aboard Shot... hope yer not into guns LOL
  18. I did mine 2 years ago... I think I used paint stripper but can't really recall for sure. I polished the covers using a product called SolvAll Autosol. It's an aluminum polishing compound. Mostly I used a good buffing wheel on a drill plus a lot of "hand work" for the nooks and crannys. I didn't put anything on afterwards and they still look good. Takes a bit of practise with the buffing wheel and it does take a lot of work to get them buffed up to be "like chrome" but it's well worth the effort.
  19. your nickname shows up as "Shot" so why do you want to change it to "Shot"? If it's already "Shot" I can't understand why anyone, with a nickname of that would want to change it to "Shot"..???
  20. I just bought an '06 in Nov. I've had an '85 and an '87. The '85 had a whine and the '87 has a growl on deceleration... I learned to live with both conditions. My '06 has a whine... because I've ridden the other 2 bikes, and I know the sounds they make, it's not much of a bother to me although I do notice it. I don't think mine is as bad as some have reported but it's still there....and I will simply ignore it and enjoy the ride. I generally have my tunes on anyway and that pretty much eliminates the annoyance of the whine. Further, I am installing the Road King mufflers which apparently are a bit louder than the stock pipes and have a nicer tone so that also will take away from whatever whine there is. here's a link to where you can hear what the RK mufflers (and others) sound like on an RSV http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002009&id=285 I bought this bike because a) I couldn't afford a new Ultra (which was my first choice)and b) the RSV is a fantastic bike and there's nothing else on the market that even comes close. hope this helps some.
  21. Here's what I use for heat in the garage and out on the deck. Works great and doesn't cost a lot in fuel. The heater itself cost $63 not including the tank.
  22. My '87 does the same...I noticed that the leak at the elbow only happened when I ran the bike. My '85 had the drip at the by-pass drain valve. Same as you...only in cold weather.
  23. not really movies but I can watch "Mr. Bean" or "Faulty Towers" or "Are You Being Served" over and over again and still split my guts laffin.
  24. Been on a lot of ferries in this province...between here and Vancouver Island, between Ft Langley and Maple Ridge, between Needles and whatever that other side is called (lol), between Nelson and "that other side", between Revelstoke and Nakusp (there's a name for that one too lol) .... small ferries, big ferries, steep inclines over metal grate, etc.... never really had any problems... guess I been lucky!
  25. "maybe" is an understatement!
