  1. Well I really don't know where to start. I've had some close calls in my days, but this morning was almost too close. To set the scene, it was around 7 am running a little late which knocked this creature of habit off a little. Overcast, wet roads but it was daylight. I ride with my bright lights and passing lights ALL THE TIME and at night or low light conditions I always have my High Intensity LED's on. All 134 of those Green Suckers. Honestly it's extremely hard to not see my bike. Coming up on a traffic signal (which was green for me)at 60Mph I noticed that cars at the traffic light entering the highway were stopped. On the other side of the light was a gas station and as I was approaching the intersection I saw a car leave the pumps, ok nothing out of the ordinary here. Well this MORON didn't even slow down and just left the pump and shot right out into my lane. I was literally no more than 40 feet away doing 60 in the same lane. Now here is where having situational awareness saved my bacon. Coming up to the intersection I had observed an SUV barreling up in the left hand lane, well he was passing me and the Moron who pulled out in front of me at the same time, the whole time he was laying on the horn at me because I had to lane split between the two or slam the back of the car that pulled out in front of me. No time or distance to brake and try and get out of that one, plus the fact that the roads were wet. I went past the car on it's left at the same time the SUV was passing me on the left. The space was no more than a foot wider than my RSV. To say I was upset would be putting it mildly. Once I got my wits about me I quickly stopped the bike in the middle of the highway, got off and was yelling, screaming, challanging, and threatening that Moron who had stopped on the highway about 100 yards back. I stood in the middle of the Highway for about a minute daring that jerk to come closer. Finally I came to my senses and realized I was causing a pretty big traffic hazzard myself so I threw a leg over and continued on to work. I picked a bad day to be running late and forget to take my blood pressure meds. Sorry folks I just had to vent.
  2. Ok when you connect the battery you should always get a spark. The ODO and radio need battery power to hold presets and mileage. The reason it didn't spark the second time was because the capacitors were charged. They hold the voltage for a few seconds. Now on to your problem. I would have to say your battery is shot. 12.8VDC is actually low for a battery without a load on it. I had roughly the same problem although I didn't get any lights or clicking sound, but the battery had 12.8VDC on it, but as soon as I tried to start it the battery voltage went to 0VDC. I would suggest replacing it before it leaves you stranded.
  3. Glad you two are ok. Bikes can be fixed and wounds heal over time. Get well soon.
  4. That's being generous. I would think about 2 min at best.
  5. If I don't recognize the number then I don't answer it. If it is someone who knows me they will leave a message and then I can get back to them. I didn't have a problem with telemarketers but about 4 years ago I lost my cell phone. Before I could get it shut off some woman found it and got my number. She has used it on her credit applications so about 4 times a month I get calls for her. I still get those calls. I used to call them back and tell them it isn't her number, but of course that doesn't help, they don't want to talk to me only her. How stupid is that. So I just ignore it.
  6. That is a shame. People just don't get it. We are everywhere and we are not going away. If there is one thing that irritates me with cagers is driving in rain, fog, early morning, or late evening WITHOUT LIGHTS. I see it every day. I do everything I can to make myself visible to cagers. Headlight on high, passing lights, and high intensity LED's.
  7. You're sooooo funny!!! Actually it's true. Brandy was actually the one who took most of the pics. She got the one of Sue and Walter. Next time I won't get so lucky, she plans on riding her own bike.
  8. ROFLMAO!!! I wonder if it melted off or came off in chunks. Need to check the windshield of a 1st Gen. Is that the Mark I Scooter or the Mark II?
  9. Here are the rest of the pics of it.
  10. Ok here are some of my pics. It was a great time. We had a blast. We were also worn out and slept like babies last night. It was great to finally meet Poledar and soon to be PoleDancer. What a great couple. Got to meet Walter and Sue, soon to be new members. Hopefully Patty will join up too. Hope everyone had a good ride home.
  11. It's not an official get together without this!
  12. I finally found something a 1st Gen can outrun.
  13. Yes, 1rooster has one as well as SteveW http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1281
  14. Looks good Jeff. Great job.
  15. I save mine in an old glass milk bottle and when bike week comes around I turn it to cash so I have a little money to spend on myself. Krome Rose spends all my other money, so I am stuck collecting the jingly stuff.
  16. As hot as AtlantaDragonslayer on shipping charges.
  17. Congrats on getting your cert. It's a whole new world waiting to be explored. I'm surprised you didn't have to do a night dive as part of your certification. The dive shop I went to made it a requirement, actually it's 2 night dives with one being a navigation dive with only a small light to see your compass.
  18. I had one of those way back when. The petcock was my first thought because of that.
  19. :whistling:Petcock is in the OFF position.
  20. I would check with a dealer, but I don't think the warranty is with the owner. I think it's the bike. When I had warranty work they looked up the vin and checked the warranty that way. Again I would check with a dealer though.
  21. Well I put 37,000 on my bike before I changed the rear brake pads and they still had 1/8 of an inch left. Don't know how many miles were on them when I got the bike. I know the front were not changed ever and it's going to go over 80,000 this week. Then again I get 18-20,000 miles out of a rear tire also. Rear Brakes? Don't use them! LOL actually I do, but not nearly as much as the fronts. Most times I engine brake and use only the fronts. I don't know how many times I have stopped the bike without ever touching the rear brake.
  22. Hope your power gets back on soon. People don't realize how far reaching these storms can be.
  23. There are two locations for fuse blocks. One is right behind the left battery cover and the other is behind the right lower fairing. The amps will be on the fuse.
  24. Any word on whether Sledge Hammer and ADC are going to make it? I know we have several members in this area and I haven't heard from them. I'm talking locals, within 50 miles of the event. Hopefully as we get closer we will get more responses. I know WildHair is not going to be able to make it because of a Doctors appointment. He made mention of that when he was down here last month. I want everybody to know we appreciate them coming and the long distance some of you will travel to get to this event. For those who don't know, this event started last year and they honestly were only expecting a couple hundred bikes at best. It wasn't well advertised, but word of mouth got out and over 2,000 bikes showed up. It was pretty awesome to be a part of that. Folks stopping on the side of the highways to wave and cheer us on. It is a moment in my life I will never forget. And to top it off it's for a good cause.
  25. I'm figuring that we might as well go with GC since it has a buffet and we won't have to wait to order and then wait for the food. Cause you know as well as I do that Home Slice aka Muffinman will get served last.
