I went from a 02 BMW K1200LT to the 1st Gen Venture. The BMW was a nice bike but maintenance was hard and the dealer was very expen$ive. The highway ride was nice but the around town, especially the slow speed turns sucked. The layover rate on slow speed turns are high. It is very top heavy. On the K1200LT forum there were two types of riders, those who have had their bikes take naps and the the riders who soon would have their bike take naps. We used to keep tally on the number of naps (layovers). Just changing the oil was a pain on the arse. I did love all the toys that came with it. They have a forum that is just as friendly and informative as we have here: http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/cmps_index.php .

Carberator Swap Procedure
KIC replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So I have a question.... I have read in different threads that the hardest part of the carb rack removal is the throttle cable connections.. reconnecting after the re installation of the rack. I think one member said it took him 6 hours of frustration to get it done. I was wondering if it was faster and easier to disconnect the throttle assembly on the handle bars and just drop the assembly down towards the triple tree, giving slack to the cables to disconnect and reconnect at the side of the bike before sliding the rack back in... ??? -
Bienvenue sur le forum de la folie. Ils sont tous fous et je suis le seul sain d'esprit one à gauche. Mais ne les laissez pas, sachez que. Welcome ! Looks like a nice set up and side car. Cool blog site you have too.

If I remember... and guys correct me, there are two different washers that go below the c-clip on the forks. One washer had a wider hole in the middle ? Can putting them in incorrectly do anything like this ?

There is also a metal heat shield back there that makes a "chatter sound" on both my bikes since the bolts seem to work through the metal and it just sits there. I am guessing I have to pull the rear and the shock to get to it and to try to remove the bolts to fix. You can reach through the side and try wiggling it to see.

We should post a poll on how many 1st Genners vs 2nd Genners there are. I have 2 riders and 2 parts bikes. Yammer Dan has.... I think at last count 457 +/- 10 or 12. The first Genners would answer this week and the slower 2nd Genners would probably show up and answer next week..... Since we wouldn't want anybody to feel left out, we could have an "other" category for the Hardley and Goldwing wanna-bees.... :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

Clue to poor gas mileage problem?
KIC replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The "torch" sure would be faster..... -
Jump over to the First Gen Tech area and you will find a lot of info on the work you need to do. Also, be sure to pull and clean and grease the triple tree fork neck bearings. That made SO much difference in my 89. Also I agree with the front fork brace AND the Progressive springs. They also made a BIG difference. PM me with a regular email address that I can attach word files to and I can send you a bunch of informative instructions you can print off and put in a 3-ring binder. I have collected "how to" threads and made my own repair manual. Good Luck and welcome ! P.S. Did you know that you have a faster bike than the 2nd Gens have here ? Just a little side info !

Mounting 3 Accessories
KIC replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Brian, I installed the MarkLand off of my 87 onto my 89. It was an easy fit. I have the rear bumper and it was not in the way. Here are a few pictures. if it helps. -
Our first and only Grand Princess just turned 1. What a change of life she is !

Looks like I got rid of my gas smell too. Found one of the vacuum caps on the carb intake was leaking..not holding vacuum and I re-synced the carbs and besides running a lot better...no gas smell after parking in the garage.
