  1. the closest buffet where I was going to be meeting a bunch of....
  2. Well put. Don't let the dealer think they have the upper hand on this deal just because the bike has some remaining warranty. Also: I just don't get why people buy used bikes from stealers? In Oregon where I live I can find more used Yamahas from private parties than from dealers and at a savings of an average $2000. My credit union will loan me the same amount of money on a private party used bike as a dealer used bike.
  3. I guess i'll be making another trip to the Dollar Tree and while I'm there I think I'll pick up some....
  4. I have no idea what that darn thing is. I thought that it was kind of an eye sore. So I had the dealer remove both of them before I rode the bike home. It seemed like the bike had more power than I remember on the test ride. :rotf:
  5. It's about time the big money $$$ Harley Davidson Corp stepped up and did something for someone who is really deserving. Use the bike as a memory of the devestation of the tsunami and let Yokoyama choose any new bike in the Harley lineup that he wants.
  6. I think it is really funny that you had no problem "riding wheelies and raising hell" but some insurance law would have kept you from riding. Why not ride without insurance if you were such an outlaw?
  7. You said to be honest. Personally I think it looks out of place. I do however think that the extra carrying capacity and the additional lighting are excellent! I am sure that if it were color matched it would look better. Functional is more important than cosmetics. I would also imagine that your passenger will greatly appreciate the extra comfort.
  8. When I installed the new slip-on muffs on the RSTD I used some exhuast wrap around the joint before installing the clamps. Seems to work great. Worth a shot if you have some exhaust wrap laying around.
  9. That is truly a work of art! Very nice piece with some quality welds.
  10. Wow this is great deal. I've been contemplating getting a MC jack for some time now. Thanks!!
  11. That looks great! nice job. Imagine how that would look if you did it to the whole engine. Sweet.
  12. They look very functioanl. Reminds me of the 1st Gen Kawasaki Concours.
  13. Redesign the original Venture with a new 1700 power house and modern technology. Can you say deposit and wait list?
  14. I use Amsoil MCF 10W-40 in the Yamaha V4. There are multiple threads dedicated to what kind of oil to use and what brands are the best. Bottom line is use an oil that meets and or exceeds the recommendations of Yamaha as specified in the owners manual. You do not have to use YamaLube to satisfy warranty requirements. Keep your reciepts! Using 10W-40 in a water cooled application because a water cooled engine doesn't have the same temperature variances that an air cooled engine has. The thermostat is controlling an ideal temperature for the most part so you aren't going to see any major variations of temperature on a properly functioning water cooled engine. An air cooled engine however is cooled by the air. If it is really hot out then the engine is going to run really hot. IF your doing 60 MPH down the highway the engine is going to run cooler than if your riding in stop and go traffic. Variations in heat will cause an oil to breakdown faster. That is why there are "V-twin" specific oils; and that is why they are generally a higher viscosity recommendation. Enough said.
  15. I am so glad that you decided to take your car! I'll bet that still cuased a pretty good scare. Did you get injured at all? Praying that you are well soon.
  16. I really enjoyed this perspective on the current tax crisis. Think that this story explains clearly what is being proposed. Thanks! Did you listen to Dave Ramsey last night or something? He was talking about this very thing while I listened on the way home from work.
  17. In a country where an unborn fetus' life can be ended lawfully, why are motorcycle helmets and seat belts required? Just doesn't make sense at all. The United States government has very little morals but they are concerned about the safety of motorcyclist. WOW!
  18. My thoughts exactly. Use an automotive grade glass tint. Should do the trick if you can make it stick. Can pick this stuff up about just about any auto parts store. I believe Wally World carries it as well.
  19. As many others have stated: maitenance, maitenance, maitenance. The bike is 13 years old with only 31K on it. That tells me the bike has been sitting a lot. Has the oil been changed even though it was just sitting? $6K for a bike with those low miles is a great deal if it has been maintained properly. Ride the bike and take someone with you who has lots of knowledge when you go to look at it. Negotiate. If in general you're not a good negotiater take someone with you who is. Now, if the bike is worth $6000 it never hurts to try and get it a little cheaper but expect to pay $6000. FYI: Portland, Oregon craigslist.org has a 2008 Venture S with 6700 miles on it with remaining Yamaha warranty until may 2013 for $9950. Smokin' deal!
  20. I totally understand the desire to want to go this fast. But I would never dream of doing it on a public road even if there were no cars in sight. I too enjoy a good adrenaline rush every once in a while but I would get more than enough adrenaline riding this fast at the track. Wow! This is just completly insane! I really hope that this person doesn't hurt themselves or anyone else just for a quick high.
  21. A tire is cheap insurance and reassurance. I would be constantly paranoid knowing that this happened to the tire. $ 250 dollars is a cheap price for being sure that this doesn't become a major problem. Choose life; buy a new tire.
  22. If I am not mistaken a Softail frame and rear suspension is the same on all "trim levels" of the Softail (Heritage,Springer,Fat Boy,Night Train, Custom, ect..). Are you sure that your buddies bike didn't have some suspension modification such and being lowered? I have owned and ridden a few miles on a dyna and I wouldn't say that it was harsh at all. The ride is firm but not going to cause any back aches. The Softail is a step up in comfort from a dyna. Should ride smoother in stock setup. I also agree that if this bike was shaking or vibrating badly at 60 MPH there was something wrong with the bike. All of the Harleys I have owned shook and vibrated during idle and when at low RPM; however, they all smooth out at speed. I think that Harley makes a great motorcycle. I also think that Yamaha makes a superb motorcycle. I have a passion for two wheels. Doesn't matter what the name badge says. They are all fun in there own ways.
  23. I was only posting as a joke. I do have to admit though that I did take my lawnmower out of the shed and after being completely pooped out from pulling on the cord I looked down to find out that the fuel petcock was in the "off" position. Turned it to the "on" position and fired up on the second pull.
  24. Make sure the fuel petcock is in the "on" or "reserve" position! :rotf:If that doesn't work check to make sure there is fuel in the fuel tank.
  25. Yes that darned front tire is a about as hard to catch as the Road Runner. Get well rested so you can start the chase again soon. Persevere Wile E. Coyote!
