Thanks for the info on the Vetter faring. Wasn't aware of what it is. The headlight bucket is not there. Will need to get a replacement for that. However, the bucket mounting ears are there. This is going to be fun. RR

We now see you don't handle gravel any better than your bike. Keep to the paved roads. Heal quickly, my friend. RR

Just picked up my project for next winter. A true barn find. 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T with 17k miles. Motor turns freely, inside of tank is in OK condition, no dents in tank, forks are straight, frame is solid and rust free, and seat is in good shape. PO put on a Windjammer which is going to have to go. Bought if from a guy that had it stored in his shed for over 10 years. It was his father's who passed in 2001. He was going to get it running but didn't have any time (or ability). It was last started in 2002 or 2003. Will need: Master brake cylinder rebuild Airbox replacement (has pods now) centerstand repair saddle bags either removed or repaired Windjammer removed and headlight moved back to forks With the removal of the fairing, will need turn signals All rubber (grips, peg covers, tires) Repaint and stripe (leaking MC got brake fluid on tank) Replace throttle cables and likely clutch cable Clutch handle NOS exhaust (current is home fabbed) Wish me luck. Congrats Owen, well done. Now go find a rally so you have something to do while running all those miles. Check here: http://www.therally.us/rides.html And you're right, it's like crack. And the FJR is such a nice machine once you get it dialed in for comfort. RR IBA 33089

bike dies, dead battery
RedRider replied to 99venture's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
99 Venture, Welcome to VR. I am 2000RSV on AdvRider and am glad to see you come here for advise. Good luck with the troubleshooting. There are folks answering your questions that are far more qualified than me with the electrical system. Now, if you have a clutch question, bring it on. RR -
I really don't want to know. However, I haven't missed a meal. RR

Heard further news today. Apparently, the car driver was out on bail for something. Not sure what. Once he is out of the hospital, his bail will be revoked. RR

This happened very near where I live. Tragic beyond words. It appears the car driver was pulling out to pass another car and apparently didn't see the bikes. The pictures are horrific as the car is completely demolished. And you can imagine the damage to the bikes. Prayers and God's Speed to the Michigan riders (and the car driver - he is critically injured also). It does not appear that alcohol was a factor (preliminary) and all the riders were wearing helmets. RR

At any sporting goods store (Cabelas, Gander Mountain, etc.) will have a roll top crush bag that is waterproof. Taken one for many miles in goosedrowners without a leak. RR

Jeff, If you can get up here, I have some waterproof boot covers and waterproof gloves you can borrow. Also have a couple of different rain suits you can choose from, but they may be a little large for you. We can get your visor and windshield Plexus'd up. Other than that, just take it easy, increase your following distances, and enjoy it. RR

Don, The pleasure we have riding eventually shows thru to our kids. My two oldest boys have their MC endorsement and ride. I have always had a couple of bikes around smaller than the Venture. My path for them was as follows: 1) I set a good example of safe riding. Took MSF basic course and attend periodic training still. NEVER drink and ride. Always wear ATGATT including full face helmet, boots, gloves, armored jacket, and armored pants (will occasionally wear jeans if running errands locally). 2) Watched their car driving skills for a couple of years. When I was comfortable with and trusted their driving skills, we started the riding tract. 3) Took them to a large parking lot and taught them the basics of how the bike worked. How to shift, brake, and countersteer. They ran around the lots until they were comfortable with how the bike worked. 4) This was done so they would not be embarrassed during their MSF class. 5) I got them all the gear and make sure they wear it. 6) As far as I can tell, they have never drank and ridden. They recognize this would be a deal breaker and they will not break this trust. I have taken a trip with my oldest son and he joined me for and 8 hour LD ride. So far, it has all been very positive. Wish we had more time to ride together. RR

From a fellow 50 year old - good call. There are folks out there that make a living knowing how to do these things. As I've gotten older, the cost for their expertise seems more reasonable. RR

I would miss that stuff like a root canal and jock itch. My Dad brought some back from Iceland and it was beyond nasty. It's worse than drinking Compari straight. RR

If I had the vacation time - Heck Yeah!!! Already have the new shoes in the garage. Spoon them on, and ride away. Might have some difficulty with missing my #2 son's 21st birthday party tomorrow. Oh, and our anniversary tomorrow. And daughter's and #3 son's HS graduation next week. But other than that, I'm out of here. RR

100,000 miles on it now. Why stop? Will be installing new tires and taking it to Alaska in July. Never even questioned being able to go anywhere (other than riding on wet gravel. Not going there anymore.). RR

You're in California. There's lane splitting there, ya know. Stupid will take care of this guy eventually. Just ride your own ride and let the idiots go. RR

The owner is doing what is right. Good for him. I would continue to patronize his establishment (unless it happens again). RR

Depends on what riding you are wanting to do. Running around the area on the weekends or traveling across the country. How many miles do you do per year? Three lessons I learned: 1) Don't go cheap (although closeout pricing on good gear is OK). 2) Make sure it fits properly. 3) Buy from a vendor with a reputation for service. My favorite is http://www.motorcyclegear.com (formerly newenough.com). RR

OK, found it. Go to forums, scroll down to Member Restaurant Reviews. There is a link for the form right under the forum header. 'Click here to submit your favorite Restaurant'. Click the link and it takes you to the form. Freebird, disregard the message on the white courtesy phone. JJ

A way to waste time better spent in the garage wrenching on something. RR PS. Now, Donald Driver winning DWTS, that's something different. GO DD!!! PSS. Didn't watch DWTS either. Got bikes to fix and ride.

Interesting. I can't post either. Checked the thread introducing the setup. There was to be a form to fill out that would automatically populate the restaurant review in the correct state. Don't see where this form is available. If it is hidden somewhere, perhaps it should be stickied to the top of the restaurant review section. Freebird to the white courtesy phone please. RR PS. KIC is our local curmudgeon. If he's not poking you, then start to worry.

Perhaps, but COLD beer is good. RR
