  1. After lunch today, 150 miles into a 250 mile ride, my riding buddy, Ron, informed me that since our last ride (about six weeks ago) he: A. Finally retired, last Friday. B. Divorced his wife of 40+ years C. Is selling his house and moving to Brazil in a couple of weeks D. His son is storing the bike for him and he will be back in March to see the doctor and wants to ride again then. And that was that. I just said, "Ok, cool." and we went outside to talk to a guy about the custom paint on his Harley night-train. Surreal, but I have then decided that rider friends are just lower maintenance than other friends and life is just the crap that happens between rides.
  2. There are some roads / routes that are like comfort food, we ride them again and again and they never really get old, or stale but more beloved for the familiarity we gain with them. As I sit here this morning, prepping to run one of my favorite routes, again, I thought I would write it out for any of the local folks who wanted to give it a go. Get thee, first, to Winder in Barrow County and head south on GA 11 (not business 11)... through Bethlehem,Monroe, and Social Circle and then south of I20 begins some of the nicest "horse" country that GA has to offer, ranches and plantations on both sides of the road. Not twisty, but rolling with occasional sweepers and long views of the fields, farmhouses and giant oak trees that guard them. Down to Monticello and through that lovely old square where 11 changes her nature and becomes more twisty as she follows the railroad tracks from Monticello through Hillsboro, Round Oak, and Wayside (a good place to pause for a moment) to Gray, GA. Turn left on GA 22 and make the 4 lane run to Milledgeville and just before 441, turn left on GA 212. which takes one through lake country and rolls through the Oconee national forest back to Monticello and back through that square on 212 to the Dairy Queen next to the Monticello inn for a break (and maybe a cone). 212 then through Jackson and into Covington (where I pick up 81 back to Loganville, and then 78 or 20 to home, or hit some little back roads) A figure 8 ride, allowing one to almost complete the square in Monticello.
  3. Congratulations! New babies are the best and I think sometimes (especially the first one in any family) must think we all look like this:
  4. Good for you for giving back. So many folks are truly grateful when getting good care when they need it and immediately afterward just want to put it all behind them.
  5. Sorry, it is just a geek thing (at least for me) Text-Binary conversion

  7. Glad things went well. Hope they continue to take good care of you.
  8. Got out for a ride with my best girl this afternoon. I really think if it were not for the fact that I would run out of gas money, I could just quit my job and ride. There are a lifetime of roads out there and they all seem to be connected.
  9. Every street bike I have ever had has ridden and handled better on a set of Metzelers. I am just trying to ride my way through these dang Bridgestones so I can get a set of 880's for the RTSD.
  10. I just got the tag to replace my drive out tag that expired last Sunday... so you know I will have to take the bike out to be sure that the extra metal does not adversely affect the handling or acceleration. It is just good maintenance practice.
  11. Me too... on both counts.
  12. Ok, so I gotta get a set of gauges and learn how my own self. Maybe once I get them someone local will take pity on me and teach me how.
  13. Yup... Of course my other bike is a Triumph and we are usually just glad to hear of A dealer. Love the bike, hate the lack of dealers when travelling.
  14. Wow, that looks to be a great find. A good cleaning alone will do wonders.
  15. I am just north of Atlanta as well but south of Cleveland. You are welcome to park here.
  16. I am going to say that "one" is too low (old card sharks reference) Since the bike got damaged in that sense he was unlucky, but otherwise he should be counting a hoop-o-blessings. (IMHO)
  17. Loaded up and ready to roll south http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0214.jpg Some late entries for the "big stuff" scavenger hunt... I think the Cow shot should be worth more because it is at DQ http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0218.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0227.jpg Had orders for Pecans so stopped a Priester's only to discover that they only have "specialty" pecans http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0221.jpg So had to stop at the "We're nuts" place to get some bags of "in the shell" pecans. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0222.jpg Cool place, right in the middle of them old cotton fields back home. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0224.jpg Stopped for the night in Tifton and parked the bike outside my "suite" at the Microtel... there goes "always garage kept" http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0228.jpg Veterans day dawned foggy in south GA, the sun and the fog made for some cool views. The trees in the fog reminded me of Snoopy behind enemy lines in the old Peanuts strip. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0230.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0234.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0238.jpg Finally made it into the land of Spanish moss... Should have taken more pictures, but from here I really got wrapped up in riding each little town was either completely decked out for veteran's day, or not at all. Some had flags AND Christmas decorations up. Great ride. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0239.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0241.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/Ride%20to%20Kissimmee/100_0242.jpg

  19. Central Florida power sports, but they are all over on line... Google bikemaster o-ring pegs
  20. They worked great for me! I am 5' 11" but only have a 31" in-seam. I think if I had longer legs they would not have worked as well, but for me they let me stretch clear out. 489 miles today most of it on I75 northbound and I used them for a high percentage of the day, especially once it got a little warmer. First impression: good buy
  21. From North of Atlanta to south of Kissimmee and back again. 1009 miles (489 today). Turns out that a big old tour deluxe is the "right tool" for this kind of ride. Great roads, great weather. My new $40 highway pegs were the bomb on the long return ride on 75 today. Pics to follow.
  22. Under $40, so i figured they are worth a try. Installed this afternoon... 500 mile ride on the slab tomorrow, so review to follow. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/IMAG0258.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/IMAG0257.jpg
  23. It was a GREAT ride down!! I made TERRIBLE time and had a great time at it! Interstate on wed. But all numbered U.S. Routes yesterday, met some great folks along the way and saw towns that before were only names on interstate signs. Just over 500 miles here, but of course I went out of my way to go out of my way. Looking forward to the ride back on Sunday.
