  1. Wow!! I can see a need for a new patch design... Not broken wings, but orange for sure.
  2. A loaded bike in the parking deck does not make for the most productive of days...
  3. Wow... sad news. I hope her family, and you, find some peace in a troubled time.
  4. I have a plan to get this one on Thursday!!! Just have to remember where on my trip this particular BIG item is.
  5. Never forgotten... never forsaken. I myself did 6 years of active duty and 4 years of active reserves and would not trade a moment of it for anything else. To those who served before me... a million salutes. To those with whom I served, a million thanks. To those serving after me, who now stand tall in that uniform... a million wishes for your safe service and joyous return so that someday you too can be an teary-eyed, old veteran.
  6. Leaving Wed after work to ride down to the Orlando / Kissimmee area to visit my Dad for a long weekend. Be my first real touring length trip on the RSTD. I gotta say, I am excited about getting her out on the open road where she belongs.
  7. Peace to you James. I still keep up with a lot of my old service buddies and I know that someday one of us will be where you are. While it has to be hard to be the last man standing, it beats the alternative. Hang in there.
  8. Got the luggage rack installed today (with no loc-tite mishaps). Pictures tomorrow. Also changed the oil and filter for the first time... by far the easiest bike I have every had for oil changes.
  9. If you live somewhere where the time just changed and are a regular commuter like me; remember that the sun has moved a lot, esp for the ride home. In the direction of that long shadow, you are worse than invisible, you hurt to look at. Folks who "saw" you on Friday may be blinded on Monday.
  10. Well, the water in the bird bath is frozen. But the key difference between living here and living north (I know, I've been there) is that these low temps are temporary. We get cold now and then (although unless there is ice on the road, NEVER too cold to ride) but usually only in the early mornings and still supposed to get close to 60 in the afternoon.
  11. Wow, that is a bad story but one with a happy ending that you should be happy be able to tell, over and over. Hope the insurance company takes a hint from fate and is kind to you.
  12. Picked up the OEM luggage rack today. Still planning on a top box with a wompus rack in the spring but want to have it painted to match... which will cost $$$. So in the mean time need to be able to strap the old rally back on the back. Now just need to go pick up the right loc-tite. Also found the gallon jug of yamalube for 16 bucks at the dealer so looks like that is what she is getting before the trip to Orlando later this week.
  13. wow!!! That looks to be in amazing shape. Good find!
  14. Tonight I was lucky enough to be the emcee for a variety show put on by the students in our high school orchestra. Varied levels of skill and talent were on display in instrumental music, singing , and dancing. What struck me was not just the talent and courage on display (one young lady froze up mid-song and left the stage in tears, but came back 3 acts later and did her whole song) but the level of support and courtesy the kids showed each other. No heckling the lesser talents, no jeering at the mistakes and recoveries, just honest appreciation and applause for what it takes to get up there on the stage and lay it on the line. It was humbling; and gives one a glimmer of hope for our future. They even laughed at some of my jokes!
  15. Brrrr- vrroom! 38 Degrees when I left the house this morning for work. Light overpants, sweatshirt, balaclava, jacket, mittens... Nothing like cold weather riding. It provides all the fun of snowmobiling without the distracting snow-bunnies, hot tubs, cocoa etc.
  16. Awesome! Congats to the whole family!

    RIDE

    Nice!
  18. Yeah, gloves are a problem in the wind because they mainly increase the surface area and heat loss as air moves across them. My personal experience has been the the wind proof mittens are MUCH better at anything below 45 degrees. Of course I have never ridden with heated gear so it could be even better.
  19. As an alternative (and great if you have multiple bikes) I bought a pair of mountain hardwear mittens from the climbing guy at REI. They have windstop material laid in both directions are toasty well below freezing. Riding in mittens takes a little practice but with a pair of light cotton glove liners in them I have been warm enough down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
  20. When I lived in Maine we had a camp that was about 18 miles off the hard road... we used to run a little Kawasaki 100 from the camp to the hard road and back for time... One afternoon, I was on my way out from the camp and rounded a corner and had to lock it up because there was a big cow moose standing in the middle of the camp road. Not my first time meeting one of these (saw them many times while hunting) but the first time that I met one this way. Just sat there idling and hoping that I did not make her or any others who I did not see mad. Finally she wandered off and I finished the run; with the worst time on record
  21. Not sure I would want to see that on a bike, anywhere. And to think that it is only the loose dogs make me nervous on my commute to work.
  22. No long lines at my polling place this AM... But more than normal for a mid-term... I was the only bike in the lot... Again.
