  1. Hi, I had a conversation with someone who builds bicycles from aluminum, he told me that every time you tourqe an alu thread, you lose ten percent of its holding ability. Not to belabor the issue, but maybe we all should be figuring to check our bolts often.
  2. Hi, I hate to even mention this potential frankenfix, but there are zuki m109 shocks all over ebay for dirt cheap, the weight of the bike is a bit higher than the venture, the shock appears longer, and prolly with more travel by the look of it. It also has a fork on one end, but could it be adapted at all for these sad venture shocks. If my shock was out, I would be looking into that or maybe some other mono shock rather than forking over nearly a thou for a good yammie shock.. I own both bikes, and I can say, the m109 shock is no slacker in the firmness department. I love the ride of the big nine, with a passenger on the back so the venture is not likely to overmatch the spring.
  3. HI, How many miles are on your engine anyways, would be nice if the rest of us could predict when this might happen to ours. Maybe change those parts to prevent it. I actually have my doubts though, that an engine would go a hundred fifty miles without oil. It seems highly likely that there would have been a seizure. I remember a buddy of mine, when we were teens, drain the oil out of a six cyl chebby, and start it up to see how far it would go, I think it was about seven minutes is all. QUOTE=Dmnordin;714150]This morning I was in the middle of replacing my clutch bearing on my 86 engine in my 83 Venture. I took the entire clutch basket out, which is a very good thing. On the very back of the clutch basket there is a gear, it drives a plastic gear on a keyed shaft going through the case. a screw had broken that holds the retaining piece for the shaft, so it was floating. On the other side of the case, where there is a gear on the other end of the shaft, that gear meshes with a plastic gear that drives the oil pump. that plastic gear was stripped. So my engines been running without oil supply probably for 150 miles this week. crap, crap, crap. I need an engine, a different bike, a new bike, ...no money. crap, crap, crap. Doug

  5. Motorcycle plates are 22, car is variable, depending on new value and weight, trailer is one time lifetime, 75 bux.
  6. Its too bad that these things are happening. I have had quite a reaction to my modulated light. Two different cagers have actually told me to shut it off when I entered a gas station. They didnt seem friendly at all, and I didnt address the legality of it with them, just went about my business. Another driver on the freeway, pulled over to the right suddenly when I came behind him, it was obvious that he thought it was a cop, he was going about five over at the time, and suddenly slowed to about the speed limit and went into the slow lane. I also had someone stare at the light, almost transfixed, while driving in the other direction. I didnt actually expect this to be this dramatic, but there is a lot of attention got in using the modulated light.
  7. Hi, Its the best twelve bux I spend in a year. I wish I were closer to the maintenance day and other activities. Even without that I have gotten unbelievable help here, saving me untold anxiety about repairs to the bike, and dollars wasted on things that I wouldnt have needed to buy. Thanks Everyone
  8. Hi, I used muriatic acid , , but you can get it at home depot etc in a gallon jug. One gallon has lasted me twenty years. I use a cup or so, put it on the spot, broom it in well with a broom you dont need any more, it will turn yellowish and foam. Wipe it up with paper towels or rags. I didnt have a sprayer or I would have washed it off with that. Wear gloves, be careful with any caustic, it will ruin clothes in a second or two. I doubt if this is epa approved, and it will leave your floor yellowish stained if you dont wash it down with water and then may stain it even at that. Ive left mine out in the cold every year, and no problem frozen or not.
  9. Hi All, When I got my venture, it had a burping sound coming from the air filter area. Earl and others told me to do the fix re oil levels, and putting that small breather in in place of the lines to the air filter. After some thought, I decided I really didnt want miniature oil droplets to be deposited around the center of the engine area from a direct vent from the crankcase, so I put a new line in, and ran it to the rear of the bike directly venting it to the atmosphere. Running that big line back thru the bits of the bike, took a bit of time to do right. My problem with the burping sound stopped, no oil mess near the carbs, and a little bit of drippage at the rear opening of the new line, especially when I run it hard, eighty or more mph. Happy happy, but I have to get one of those tiny filters to put on the end of that line at the rear of the bike.
  10. that figures dont lie, but liars can figure. What puts the lie into this little excercise, is the fact that ,,, income discrepancies are not mentioned, and taken into consideration in your game. Its all just more fauxnues.
  11. Hi, I know that bill of sale would work here in Michigan. Good luck with all of this and lets hope your knees get better, your work gets easier, a good bike shows up cheap, and your customer is pleased as punch with your Venture. Good Luck. Tom
  12. I put one on over the winter, and havnt had trouble with it, and there is no question, people have obviously taken note of it, have had them do double takes that could be seen .
  13. Sorry to hear of this, our most heartfelt condolences and prayers sent for your family.
  14. Hi, When I first started looking at bikes again in 09, there was a local dealership employee that had a perfect 07 Busa, mind you this was the first bike I had considered in ten years. He only wanted seven k for it, with two thou miles on it, it was a good, good thing, that I couldnt get my old left foot upon the footpeg methinks. Based on my experience with the Bandit, that Busa would have been a sky climber for sure, a whole generation newer, water cooled, and a hundred fifty cc bigger. Last summer, a local guy was selling his gxsr thousand. I took it for a five mile test ride. We set the puter to simulate a six hundreds power. It had three settings, one simulates six hun ccs, one makes it a seven fifty and the last one is full power. I shifted at two k, and five shifts later, was going seventy five effortlessly, shocking shocking very low end power for a full out race bike. And that bike felt very very light and seemed tiny tiny too. The seller claimed it would do sky shots in the first four gears. I think I better stick to my venture, no need to worry about inadvertent sky shots , and its comfy, haha.
  15. Hi, Youll have to let me know how that works out, I am over sixty too.
  16. I am praying for your grandchild and her Mom and your whole family. My own daughter was born premature, two and a half months, she only weighed two and a half pounds. Our U of M Hospital brought her through just fine, that was forty years ago too. Your baby looks real good, pink skin, her lungs are working. Chubby cheeks, wonderful, beautiful child. Best Wishes.
  17. Hi, I have a B12 Zuki Bandit, it is amazing thats for sure, supposedly has 120 hp at the rear wheel. It is blinding fast and scary. I am a BIG guy, and that thing starts to pull the front wheel while rolling the throttle on , at about four k rpm, without using the clutch , in low, and a six grand short shift into second, then opening the throttle, will send me faster in a second or two than I ever want to ride. Awesome engine, I think the power is similar to vmax except for the v boost, but its a much lighter bike. I lust for a BIG new V max though, but wouldnt know what to do with the power. I have been following the big max s on ebay, there have been a number of older guys, whose kids took them away supposedly, the kids explanation on ebay was, ,,,,,,well my Dad went and bought this thing, and he found he was in way over his head,,,only a couple thou miles,, he traded it in on an eleven hundred v twin ,, and he is very happy with it. hahahahaa, us old farts, love looking at the young women, and super bikes, but,, well, like my Dad said once,, most forty year olds find out they arent wired for 2-20 s. Best to just daydream about it, methinks.

    SCAM??

I say scam too,, if that thing is thirty or forty percent or more below blue book, and he is claiming that ebay has an escrow service,,, SCAM I see lots of this stuff on CL in my area, usually, its been about a hundred miles away as per listing, but when you contact them,, the bs about being in the army, and its in storage in baumphawk Iowa or something comes out, and its usually, someone saying they are selling for their cousin or something,, forget about it. A local guy here, was trying to buy a gxr, at a bargain price, ended up actually sending money to a western union terminal,, ended up losing 5500 dollars to this kind of stuff.
  21. Hi, I would sure like to have that link too, anyone got it available?
  22. In my various readings just in the last week or so, I read that a turbo 350 can be made almost as durable as a th400 by the insertion of a thrust washer . At least thats what I recall, I was quite surprised to read of it. I think I was reading about this on wikipedia, and took off on a link from the gm transmission site on there. Dont be too sure of it, but you could sure ask around for confirmation.
  23. Hi, I am with you on the headlight modulator. I wonder how many of us are using the wigwags. I would be very curious to know, how many of us, use wigwags, and how many of us have had close calls or been involved in these left hand turn things. I suspect ,very very few as a percentage have had left turn accidents with wig wags. I saw the brain thing on nat geo also and was totally amazed. Not to change the subject, but I am a recumbent bicycle rider, also, and I found that I got on avg about three more feet clearance with cars going by, on a recumbent, as on an upright. They just dont know what to make of it. I also got more clearance, using an upright flag with the bicycle, but I got the most clearance, with a horizontal flag, coming out the side of the bike, I wonder how much clearance I would get with both horizontal and an upright flag on a bicycle.
  24. I suspect this fellow may have been in poor health to begin with, and he may have had substandard burn care also. Generally after that period of time, its organ failure that will be fatal. The liklihood of the above, sure doesnt excuse the manufacturer of a leaky, non extinguishing lighter though. Ive found that almost all chine products are below standards that we are used to. It makes it kind of scary, as more and more of auto parts are manufactured there, even by oem manufacturers, not to mention the cheap knockoffs labelled as gennie oem parts.
  25. Hi, If youz do find a great buy on the gaskets as a group, let me know, I am interested.
