  1. Mark, we ride a '93 and I cut 4" off of the shield. Haven't had any complaints from back seat and I sure like it. Couldn't stand looking thru rain covered helmet shield, and rain covered windshield. Don H.
  2. Have looked at the "toy haulers". Have to give up too much living space and not sure how well the seal between the haul area and the living area is. As this will be our ONLY home didn't really like the idea of having to sacrafice the space needed or the possibility of gasoline odors seeping thru into living area. Don H.
  3. even tho I never had the honor or pleasure of meeting "Mean Dog" my heart is heavy. Prayers are sent to the family for peace and grace. Don H.
  4. Ok guys, have a question about transporting a VR behind a 5th wheel RV. Does anyone make one of the bike lifts that mounts on the back of a motor coach for a 5th wheel RV?? When retirement gets here, want to become full time 5th wheeler and need something to haul the bike on. Trailer behind RV will put me overlength in a lot of states. Any ideas?? Don H.
  5. Don, thanks for a place to come home and unwind after a day at work. Don H.
  6. There's one on e-bay right now. Item # 320216145264. It will be over tomorrow evening at 8 P.M. I think. It's off of an '86 but it will fit. I just bought one for my '93 that came off of an '83. Good price also compared to what I paid. Don H.
  7. real nice '86 on e-bay right now. anyone interested, i can go look at it. Don H.
  8. There is a real nice '86 on e-bay right now. Anyone interested, I can go look at it. Only 12-15 miles away from me. Don H.
  9. wizard, just send the plows, don't need any of the stinking snow!!:no-no-no: Don H.
  10. jneed, with the new construction here on I-10, west side of town, they put them at all of the newly constructed exit ramps about 1' apart so you can't miss them at the speeds you have to run to not get run over. when they are wet they are very slick and dangerous for a bike. Don H.
  11. Once you get outside of the big metro areas here in TX, the roads are very good, even the side roads which are called farm to market, or FM 1093, FM 1314, and so on. But in the metro areas do understand what you mean about pot holes. Don H.
  12. After I got bike running, now the rear shock bleeds off over a 24 hr. period. I went thru almost the same thing before and ended up buying the compressor because I couldn't find any air leaks due to the small volume or air involved. Any ideas on how to find the air leak with such a small amount of air?? Don H.
  13. What does the trans. dept. of your city/state use for lane dividers on the roads in your area? Here in Houston they use what are called "buttons". They are circular approx. 3", about 1/2 to 1" high in the center and made out of a ceramic I think. They use them where an exit ramp seperates from the main part of the road to divide the lanes. When they are wet, they are just like greased rocks. The problem is at exit ramps they put them in groups of 8-10 about 1' apart and you can't get between them with a bike. Doesn't affect cars as they have 4 wheels but they scare the you know what out of me. I called and got someone who actually understands what I was saying about those things when they are wet and the effect they have on motorcycles. He said that he will check on them as they now have an epoxy paint they can use instead. I know that wet paint is just about as bad, but not quite as these things are raised and rounded. Just wondering. Don H.
  14. heard the same thing from a dealer here in Houston that's been in business for quite awhile. Total redesign, couldn't or wouldn't say anything about the engine as to whether it will still be the V-4 or something different. Don H.
  15. The bike was down for approx. 4 mo. while I decided if I was going to ride again and also fixing all of the broken plastic. I did start it probably twice a month during that time. Now that it is all glued back together and ready to ride, it doesn't want to run for approx. 15 to 20 minutes after starting. It seems that after the motor gets a little heat in it, it seems to even out and will idle pretty smoothly. I have run about 1/4 can of Seafoam in the first full tank, but haven't run it all out yet. It starts good, but needs to have the choke on quite a while. Also, I get a strong smell of gasoline while riding. Does this sound like carb problems, or possibly something else? Any help will be appreciated. Don H.
  16. we both use the HJC 3/4 and like them. Wife has a face shield for hers (dark) and wears glasses with it down. We also have speakers in the helmets and really like those. Don H.
  17. hipshot, you're wrong on the life expectancy, more like 6 secs. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt on the U.S.S. Wasp CVS-18, '68/'71 VS-28. Don H.
  18. Beer30 I did the clutch on my '91 with the PCW kit. I had it done in about 1 1/2 hrs. and it held good up until the time when I wrecked it. Never had any slippage at all and we ride 2 up most of the time. Don H.
  19. Yeah, tell me about the traffic. I get to drive every morning from the far west side of Houston to the far east side and do the opposite in the evening, 112 mile round trip. Total time approx. 3 hrs. Have rode the HOV lanes also, but can't do that in the truck unless there are 2 or more people in the truck. All of our jobs are around the metroplex so any job I go to will be a long drive. Just don't have any on the west side of town right now. Don H.
  20. Right now, everywhere around Houston is growing like a bad weed. I work in construction, and we have jobs all around the Houston metroplex which extends basiclly from Conroe on the north to Galveston on the south, and from Sealy on the west to east of Baytown on the east. As said before, the best riding is on the west and northwest side of Houston. For big deer, you have to go to south Texas. The whitetails north of an east/west line going thru Corpus Christi are on the small side. The humidity can be a bear during the summer, but as you said, year round riding can make up for the summer months. Usually Dec., Jan., and Feb. can be real wet and cold but can still ride on the good days. Hope this helps, it can be a nice place to live and work. If you get down this way give me a call, no. is in my profile. Don H.
  21. How about that beautiful '64 Plymouth Sport Fury 426/365 street wedge 4 spd for $68K, or that '65 Caprice 427/425 4 spd. no air, no power steering, or power brakes. Talk about a street sleeper?? Sat. nite is when the big guns come out, prices will be in the stratosphere!! Don H.
  22. will the front turn signal from a '83 fit a '93?? am looking at one on e-bay and don't want to bid on it if it won't fit. Don H.
  23. Was thinking of the both of you on the way home tonite. Hope all goes well with the clavical and you heal fast. Said a prayer for both of you. Don H.
  24. Was down at one of the local dealers here in Houston today. Got to talking to one of the salespeople about the Venture and when is Yamaha going to dump the tape player and go with a CD changer? Well he said that when they were at the annual shindig that Yamaha has the rep said to take a good look at the '08 because that was going to be the end of the Venture as we know it now. I tried to pry more info out of him but he said that is all he knows right now. Said they will probably see what Yamaha is going to do in Sep. this year and will probably have a release date Feb. '09. I said,"oh, a new first gen", and he said it will definately be a new and different look than what they have now. I guess we can always dream tho. Don H.
  25. When I had the fairing off fixing broken areas I found that the CB/Air ride panel mount system was broken. What I am trying to describe is on the underneath side of the panel there are 6 supports that the mounting screws go thru. These supports were broken or cracked and would not support the panel properly. I went to a local lumber chain store and got a 3/4" dowel rod. I then drilled a hole about 2" deep centered on the end. Then I cut 6 pieces 5/16" long. Now I had 6 individual pieces 5/16" long with a hole thru the center. The 2 that are at the rear of the panel will have to have one side trimmed off because the panel narrows at that end and 3/4" is to wide to fit. Then I used a product called Automotive Amazing Goop which can be bought at Walmart for $3 and change to glue the wood pieces to the underneath side of the panel. Don H.
