  1. In my 1st. gen, I use NAPA gold filter #4933 because the o-ring comes with the filter, and also because I will NOT USE a Fram in any vehicle I own. I had a Fram filter split on my Ranger and dump 4 qts. of oil right after I had it changed. As far as the oil I use in the scoot, I use Amsoil 10-40 and have no oil related problems. I usually go 7K between changes. Don H.
  2. Brad, just met you and Lonna Sat. and almost had heart failure when I got on here and saw this tonite. As to what's been said before, ditto and ditto! Don't like to hear about friends having these kind of incidents. Both of you get better, the bike can be replaced but not y'all. Take it easy on the way home and check in when you can. Don and Linda
  3. Hang tought Lowell. Quit 2 1/2 yrs. ago. Smoked a pipe for 40 yrs. and inhaled every puff. Was also smoking Prince Albert. Run out of pipe tobacco, would go to unfiltered Camels. Yeah, it was hard, like you mad all of the time, but got thru it. Keeping Wrigley's gum in business now. Definately saving money now and feel a lot better. If I can do it, you can. Don H.
  4. "HAPPY NEW YEAR" to all of the VR family, hope to meet a bunch of y'all this year. Don and Linda
  5. things went off very well today. Met some great people, had some good food, and had good fellowship. Made new freinds which is what it's all about. Was blessed with the Venturrider AMBASSADOR TO THE WORLD being there, yes LOWELL PRYOR rode in with a friend!! Squid, you and Lonna be safe on the way back, oh did you get to the HD store? Don H.
  6. To all who posted, I couldn't have said it any better. MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR to each and everyone. Don H.

  8. hey guys, need a few parts for a '93 VR. 1. left side louvers 2. left side turn signal lens 3. left side chrome piece with the red lights in it (part of the rear accesory lighting package) that is under the saddle bag and curves around and ties into the center piece of the rear bumper. 4. the CB remote for the rider that mounts on the left handlebar. If anyone has any of these and wants to let them go please let me know, or if you know any one who has any of these let me know. Dropped bike in Aug. and didn't know if I wanted to get back on and ride, but have decided to fix it and ride some more. Thanks Don H.
  9. MDHASSON, welcome to a great place and congrats on having the best bike out there. Don't know any mechs where you are, but have a great mech here in Pasadena. Bought my bike, (93 VR) from him. He has worked on Ventures since they were originally produced, know them inside out, upside down, etc., etc. PM me and I will give you his name. Bill P, how ya doin'? Don H.
  10. Dale, if one is leaking, you should go ahead and replace all of them. There are 2 (part no. 22) on the elbow that goes into the water pump. On the thermostat housing there is 1 o-ring (part no. 27), and a gasket (part no. 29) that needs replaced also. There may be others, but that is all I could see on the link to the parts book in the second post. Over time they get hard and don't shrink and grow like the should. Don H.
  11. After having gone thru all of the hair pulling and discussion of this particular parts ancestery I finally got the the brake bled!! The problem started out as a simple pad replacement which proceeded to go south at a very rapid rate and ended up in my having to take the caliper off and to the mech to replace the seals which decided that this was the time to give up the ghost. After getting the caliper back and the new pads installed and the caliper mounted, I started to bleed the brake, (right front). Now this is where the hair pulling and dicussing the caliper's ancestery began. I tried the regular way of pumping the brake handle with the bleeder screw closed with no success. Aha, I thought. I will go to the Venture site and do a search to find out how to bleed the brakes. I found and tried the reverse bleeding method, again with no success. Now this was beginning to take on all of the aspects of a 3 ring circus! So, I thought why not try the reverse bleeding method again but with a minor modification. Instead of filling a bottle and holding it up like a IV bottle, why not use a 60cc syringe which I had in my tool box. Btw, my daughter is a nurse at a local hospital and she got me a couple of these. If you are a nurse or know one, get a couple of these and keep in your tool box, they are handy as a third hand. But I digress. It worked GREAT!!!! This way you can use pressure to reverse bleed and it only took about 20 minutes to fully complete the job and have a good hard brake handle. Don H.
  12. Hey guys, I need some parts due to unspecified reasons. There are 3 parts I need, which are: 1. left front turn signal lens 2. left side case/crash guard 3. lower left accessory lighting chrome trim which is located under the left side saddle bag. This piece has 2 red lights in it and wraps around and connects to the lower rear center piece. I don't need the lights just the chrome piece. Thanks Don H.
  13. Ok, have 2 problems. Bike is a '93 VR. First problem:Radio channel display flashed rapidly and lost sound. Now no channel display or sound. The little red light that shows power on is lit, but nothing coming out of unit. Have had problems with radio losing sound with channel display remaining lit showing station that I was listening to, then will come back on and scare the you know what out of me. It will remain "off" for a few minutes, or it might be 2 or 3 days before it comes back on, or anywhere in between. Just a "wild a-- guess", did the radio give up the ghost or what??? Second problem: The bike has the wrap around rear lights. The lights are in a 2 bulb assembly and 1 of the assemblies keeps burning both bulbs out in less than an hour after replacing the bulbs, which btw is a pain in the you know what. A side note, if you have the same set-up, you need to buy at least twice the amount of bulbs needed because you will end up breaking probably 2 or 3 of them. I want to be able to keep these lights lit because it gives the bike an unbalanced look, and I am unbalanced enough already! :bang head: Any ideas?? Thanks Don H.
  14. jt, they came standard from the factory. You can still buy them for I think $51.00 ea. from Mama Yama if you so desire. Yours do the same thing only a whole lot less expensive. Don H.
  15. agree with MR. E-FISHIN-C totally. Also, if you are at 11.0 to 1 compression, you better be using something better than pump gas even 91 or 93 octane, probably 118 octane!!! Don H.
  16. Don't know if I posted this here or not. A couple of years ago, I had been out riding with the group I ride with and had stopped for supper. This was in the fall of the year here in SE Texas and was cool but not cold. We were in the resturant about 1 1/2 hr. When we came out, temp had cooled into the low 50's or high 40's. Started bike pulled out on asphalt. Was about a 1/2 mile to ramp for freeway, I-10 east. Went under I-10 was making turn to get on feeder road to ramp, when this van went around me on the right side intending to get in front of me. Didn't want to be behind said van, so grabbed a BIG handful of throttle. Now this is where this gets exciting!! A 1st. gen Venture in 1st gear really likes to accelerate, which in itself in not a bad thing. But, and I say again, but with cold tires and cold asphalt it turns into a BAD THING quickly!!!! The rear end decided to lead at this moment, and the direction it wanted to go was in the general direction of this 3/4 ton van which was beside me at this time!! I got it straightened up and didn't go down thank GOD, but I thought I might have to change underewar when I got home. The point of this, is don't grab a lot of throttle with cold tires on cold asphalt. Don H.
