  1. So that's how my old school teacher did it. She always said she had eyes at the back of her head.
  2. Spray WD40 around the linkages on the carbs and on the cable near the carbs. With the engine off move the throttle up and down several times. It should start to snap back to idol position by it's self. If it still doesn't snap on it's own, take the throttle apart on the handle bar. Spray WD40 on the inside of parts of the throttle and into the cable from this end. Reassemble and turn the throttle several times.
  3. You got that right.
  4. No. The plate is just pressed between the middle and end of the housing. There are small tabs on the plate that are supposed to make contact with the housing. But they are very loose fitting and with heat expansion loses contact even more. Tight fit. Small wire is much easier to fit into the housing. Two small wires are much easier to work with then one large wire and carry as much current as one large wire. The wires are very short only a couple of inches, so no problem carring the current. The wires from the brush plate to the brushes look to be about 12 guage anyway. So the two 14 guage wires plus the ground tabs will easily carry more current then needed. I even upgraded my battery cables to 4 guage and ran a 4 guage ground from the battery a mounting bolt on my starter. It help a bit but still had problems with starting when the engine was hot. Only after doing this starter mod did I get starter spinning the engine over like it should. Hot or cold. When I saw your post I could see what the problem was. When I took the starter apart I looked for any arch marks on the brushplate. There were slight discoloring at the tabs so I knew right away this mod would work. Anyone with starter dragging problems - do this. You'll be impressed at the difference it makes. Once again. Thanks Gary. Your $2 starter mod works better then a $500 new starter.
  5. Dingy that was a nice post. I just finished doing the mod you posted. It works awesome. Hot or cold makes no difference now. The engine just spins - FAST. No drag at all. Thanks for posting. The pictures helped a lot. For anyone else that thought about doing it. It's a fair amount of work. Mostly to get the starter out. You have to remove both front exhaust headers. There is two rad hoses in the way that has to be removed and the thermostat housing. Once the starter is out it only takes a few minutes to do the mod. It's well worth the work. It'll be so nice to stop for gas or coffee after a long drive and not have to worry about starting.
  6. That's sad. How can anyone just drive away after hitting someone?
  7. Looks great. Nice job.
  8. The rear is held by 4 bolts. The bottom 2 you can see once you take the saddle bags off. The top 2 are from the inside of the fender. If you feel the inside edge of the fender just above the wheel you will find them.
  9. Just a thought. Why not just mig weld around the pin to expand the diameter, then grind round and smooth to fit the hole on the bracket? This would be much stronger then any epoxy or rubber spacers. It would even strengthen the pin to equal the MKII's larger pin.
  10. I looked up the cover gaskets and it appears the right side is the same but the left side has different part numbers. So there may be a difference on the generator side. This is based on 86 model, site doesn't show 85 or down. 86 Venture left cover gasket 26H-15455-01-00 86 Vmax left cover gasket 1FK-15455-00-00 86 Venture right cover gasket 26H-15449-00-00 86 Vmax right cover gasket 26H-15449-00-00
  11. The snow is really hard in Photoshop Alaska.
  12. That looks awsome. What kind of glue did you use?
  13. These are pictures of my house last year. This year we have almost no snow and you guys have it in the south. You can keep it. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd318/elagyrrep/IMG_0847-1-1-1.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd318/elagyrrep/IMG_0852-1.jpg
  14. Fluke is one of the best on the market. But you have to pay for them. $100+ Whether this is the right one for you depends on what you are planning to use it for and how often. If you are into electronics and plan to use it all the time, yes Fluke. If you are only going to use it occasionally and just to check things like voltage from your stator. Then $10 meter from Walmart will do the job. I have one of each. The Fluke when I am doing anything with electronics and a cheap one for banging around the garage.
  15. This is for Intel motherboards. But most brands use the same code. This document gives troubleshooting tips for when you hear beep codes and your desktop board does not boot up successfully. You are getting 1, 2, or 3 beeps that indicate a memory failure. 1 beep - Refresh Error (with nothing on the screen and it is not a video problem) 2 beeps - Parity Error 3 beeps - Base 64 K memory failure Reseat the memory. Make sure that the contacts on the memory and the socket are clean. Try removing one bank of memory modules at a time. Note: Some systems might need to have a memory module in Bank 0. Try using memory modules from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed. Check for a faulty memory module by trying the memory in a known good system. Trying known good memory in the system. Check the power supply and check for power fluctuations. If the steps above do not resolve the problem, the desktop board may be defective. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 4 beeps indicating a timer not operational: Check for foreign objects such as screws that may ground the desktop board and make sure that screws that hold the motherboard are not too tight. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 5 beeps indicating a processor error: Check for foreign objects such as screws that may ground the desktop board and make sure the screws that hold the board are not too tight. Make sure the processor is seated properly. Try a different processor. Remove the desktop board from the chassis and reinstall it. If the steps above do not resolve the problem, the desktop board may be defective. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 6 beeps indicating 8042 - gate A20 failure: Check for foreign objects such as screws that may ground the desktop board and make sure the screws that hold the motherboard are not too tight. Try a different keyboard. Try a different processor. You are getting 7 beeps indicating processor exception interrupt error Make sure the processor is seated properly. Try a different processor. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 8 beeps indicating display memory read/write failure Make sure that you have a video card on your system. If possible, swap the memory on the video card. Try a different video card. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 9 beeps indicating ROM checksum error Try reflashing the system BIOS. If possible, try reseating the system BIOS chip. Try a different desktop board. You are getting 10 beeps indicating CMOS shutdown register read/write error Try a different desktop board. You are getting 11 beeps indicating cache memory bad Make sure the system is configured properly (CMOS Setup Program and jumpers on the board) for the RAM cache. If possible, replace the RAM cache. Try a different processor. Try a different desktop board.
  16. I searched for aftermarket gaskets with no luck. But I bought all 6 gaskets for under $120 from Yamaha Canada.
  17. I had both inkjet and laser printers. Problem is I don't print a lot. Inkjet cartridges dry up if not used an a month or two. They also have a low yield. They will print a couple of hundred pages at best of text. Price for ink anywhere from about $30 to over $100 depending on model and brand. Laser printers. First advantage is they don't dry up (toner is powder). So even if you print a page and don't use the printer for a year, it will still work when you need it. If you print mostly text. Laser printers will print anywhere from 3000 to 5000 pages. Price for toner is $30 to just over $100 for black toner cartridges. Color laser toner will cost a bit more but the difference in yield over inkjet more then pays for it's self. The only disadvantage I can even think of with laser is the first page takes longer to print. The printer has to warm up for about 15 to 20 seconds. After that it will print faster then any inkjet printer. In my opinion a laser printer is well worth the extra couple of dollars.
  18. I drive a 2002 Chevy minivan. You guys may have heard of this one. It's called a Venture. When it's raining I go to work with the van. Nice weather I go on the bike. I refer to it as going to work IN or ON the Venture.
  19. Selling here in Canada from $35 to $45 depending on brand. www.canadacomputers.com Don't go to the big box stores to buy it. They will charge you two arms and a leg for it. Find a little privately owned computer store. You'll get a much better price.
  20. My garage is attached to my house. 10x20 and I heat it with a 220v 4800 watt electric construction heater. Garage is not insulated and I only heat it when I need it. Really cold outside -20C takes about an hour to make it comfortable in there.
  21. You didn't say what is in the truck now. Is it a V6 or V8. If there is a 5L or 305 in it now. A small block 350 will work fine. Make sure the balancer is attached. Pully can be interchanged with you existing one. All your existing brackets will bolt right up to the 350. Try to find fuel injected one if possible, just to save some work. But if you can't find a fuel injected one, just get a carburated one. The intake from your existing engine will bolt right in. If you have a V6 in it now. You are best to stay with a V6 because changing to a V8 would require changing the wiring harness. You would also have to change the computer, possibly the fuel pump and eventually the suspension springs.
  22. I'm no doctor. But I don't think that one is going to live.
  23. Agreed. I think it's going to be hard for police to stop truckers from using CB. And I also agree that they are nowhere near as distracting as cell phone. After all truckers are professional drivers that have much more driving skills then the average Joe. But the new law (in Ontario anyway) is written as "No hand held communication devices". I would like to see the CB survive but it's only a matter of time til' they go the way of the 8 track. Unless they modernize it. Carry CB frequencies and FRS frequencies plus make it bluetooth compatible.
  24. Yes you can communicate with people on other bikes as well as your own passenger. Bluetooth is supposed to only have a range for 30' but I've found it is actually much better then that, probably more like 60'. CB does have a much longer range and you can talk to truckers. But let's face it, it's obsolete. With the new hands free laws, truckers won't be useing it for much longer. What would be nice to see is the stereo and CB in the bike incorperate bluetooth technology. By this I mean if you have a bluetooth helmet. You should be able to listen to music or talk on the CB as well as a phone, through the helmet. Best of both worlds. But keep the speakers on the bike of course for the open face helmet on hot days.
