  1. Yes up to 4 guage.
  2. Having starting problems. More when the engine is hot. I've noticed that the lights are brighter when engine if reved then at idol. When engine is hot starter drags and sometimes won't turn over at all. Booster pack will make it spin and start with no problem. Just wondering if this sounds like the battery is cooked or if the stator is getting bad?
  3. Just bought a new set of gaskets from a local Yamaha dealer (Tri City Cycle - Waterloo). 4 header to collector gaskets $20 each. 2 Collector to muffler gaskets $13 each. Gaskets at top of rear headers $8 each. And front header to engine gaskets $5.50 each. Total $133 plus taxes.
  4. Learned on a Yamaha 125 enduro. Not sure of the year 1970 someting. Then a friends dad bought him a new Yamaha 400 Maxim. He never had his licence so I got to chauffeur him around for a couple of years. Plus lots of solo time on that bike. Drove bikes all the time a teenager but never actually owned one. Till now. In my 40's I have a midlife crisis and bought my current bike. A 1984 Yamaha Venture. Wish I'd bought it back in 84 when I first started driving. Much nicer then the Maxim or enduro.
  5. You beat me to it. That's exactly what I was thinking. Most trailer hitches have a tongue weight of 500 pounds or less. This unit looks to stick out close to 2 feet so it would cut the tongue weight capasity in half. So max tongue weight would be around 250 pounds. Venture weighs around 800 pounds. So approxametly 400 pounds on the tow unit. Hmmmmmmmm Other thing I don't like is it doesn't hold much of the front wheel. On turns it would put a lot of stress on the front wheel. I noticed that the dirt bike leaned a little on the turns. I also noticed that they didn't even show the street bikes in the turns. Coincidence?
  6. I come from Newfoundland Canada. We always had to keep our eyes open for moose. I've had several encounters with them both in cars and on motorcycles. Never hit one though, Thank God. The island does have a large population of black bears too. Never crossed my mind that they were there. Guess I have something new to watch out for next time I'm back that way.
  7. They would have to be made of Kevlar and some kind of futuristic metal from Starwars or Startrek to hold up my fat a**. LOL
  8. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2009models/2009-BMW-K1200LTd-small.jpg Looks almost like BMW stole the blueprints for the frame. Way too many simalarities. Have to give them credit though. It's a sharp looking bike. Seen a few of them around. Kind of thought this is what the Venture would have looked like by now had Yamaha not discontinued the line.
  9. Copper pipe with staggered half way cuts? Looks like this? http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd318/elagyrrep/Untitled-15.jpg Seen it done on cars before. Work well?
  10. Yup. You are right. They didn't look like the right ones but I cross referenced the part number. The pack of 4 (header to collector) is $10 on Ebay. Guess I'll buy them. Even with shipping all 4 is still cheaper then one from Yamaha. Thanks
  11. Parts dealer in Hamilton Ontario. Here's the link. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/yamahagenuineparts/Yamaha_OEM/YamahaMC.asp?Type=16&ModelYear=1986
  12. Saw the ones on Ebay. They look like the header to engine gaskets. The ones I need are parts 27, 36 and 41 shown in the picture. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd318/elagyrrep/0011.jpg
  13. Just bought a collector for my 84 XVZ12. Looked up the exaust gaskets online for Yamaha origional. $20 each for the headers (4 needed) and $13 each for the mufflers (2 needed). Total $106 total plus tax. Seems a bit much for 6 metal rings. Just wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket set available anywhere.
  14. I can't find it right now but there was a thread in here somewhere about this. If I remember correctly they thought there would be some power loss with only one carb. Will try to dig it up for you.
  15. I know exactly how you feel. I had a van stolen last year. Turned up a few days later with some damage and an empty gas tank. Had it fixed and still driving it today. Only problem is when ever I park it anywhere, I always wonder if it will be there when I come back to it.
  16. We all wish you a quick recovery and hope you will ride again soon.
  17. Check your PM. I sent you a link to a guy I bought some parts from. He is in Shelburne Ontario.
  18. How far are you from Orangeville? I sent you a PM.
  19. That lift is rated for 1100 pounds. I'd be keeping an eye on the collector. The tubes are pretty thin and prone to cracking. That's a lot of stress on it.
  20. Bikes and trailers are supposed to look like this. hehehehehe I defenitly have to give him points for creativity. It will turn some heads. But I am glad he didn't use his Venture.
  21. That fish is good for several meals. Or you can have a party but you still might have some leftovers.
  22. I haven't tried yet, but I would assume that a telescopic fishing rod should fit into the saddle bags. And you can buy them from any department store. An added advantage with them is you can use any reel you want.
  23. "Under FL law the truck is at fault, IF is was a legal passing zone. I dont know what WY law is. But here is the FL law that the truck violated: 316.122 Vehicle turning left.--The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction, or vehicles lawfully passing on the left of the turning vehicle, which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318." There is a similar statment in the Ontario Hiway Traffic Act. It does not give right of way to the vehicles turning left. But if splits the fault 50/50. The driver turning left is to ensure that the lane he is crossing is clear. Not only from opposing but also from traffic that is passing. It's just common sence. In this case other bikes passed him already. Harley is not a quiet bike so he had to know they were there. So he is atleast partially at fault for this. On the other hand the driver of the bike should NEVER pass a vehicle that is signaling. This puts just as much fault on the bike driver as he ignored the signal. Regardless whether in the right or wrong. We are driving the smaller vehicle. The law does not help anyone who is 6 feet under. We have to use our heads and even if we have the right of way. Sometimes it's better to yeild if it will avoid the accident.
  24. Had the same problem last week. All I did was the same trick to stop squeaking with car brakes. I put a dab of silicone on the back of the brake pad where it makes contact with the caliper piston. Haven't squeaked since.
  25. Ouch!!! Hope you get better soon Carl.
