  1. that is a nice scooter. purty blu tu. congrats.
  2. prayers sent.
  3. i have about 3/4 mile of gravel road before i hit asphalt. speed depends on how deep and loose the gravel is. gravel roads can change. rain, heat and traffic will dictate how driving conditions are for any given day. if our road has been ridden on by the neighborhood, i ride just fine at 10 to 25 miles an hour because the gravel is packed down. the speed depends on how busy the neighborhood is. are kids playing in the yard? are folks heading to work or coming home? then comes the parish (county) road graders. they fix all the stuff that cagers complain about. road ripple washboard, pot holes and the like. I ride about 13 MPH on fresh road grade. Now comes the fun part. every few years the ditch cleaners come around and will put some dirt back on the road to keep up the base followed by the "add gravel to the fresh dirt" trucks. slow or fast does no good on this kind of stuff in this situation. i muddle through about 8 mph or so. and i ride on the nothbound side (going and coming) as that is used by the neighborhood heading to town. we almost went down the first time driving on this fresh topping section of the road coming home and using the proper southbound lane. 2 steps with the boot to the ground kept us up and moving. no throttle was applied, just kept the same speed we had while making the left turn off asphalt onto gravel I moved over to the improper northbound lane to a harder pack that kept us up till we got onto the older part of the road. gravel is something you have to have experience with. saying speed up or slow down all the time is tough to do since each road is a bit different. our road changes and i change my driving for that day for the road's current condition. getting used to how the tires and bike move and feel on gravel is only gained by finding some and riding on it regularly.
  4. that was super nice. thanks for sharing that. we like cave tours, but have not seen a restuarant in one. looks like fun. where's the fishing pole?
  5. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Agreed. i have had my non american compressor for about 5 yrs and have only added 2 ounces and that was just for peace of mind as it just seemed a bit low. that was about a year ago and no change in level. if it's under warranty, get it fixed or replaced.
  6. I have said it before also that the info shared here is great. i have done a bunch to my scooter also and it is because of the people on here. if that is not enough, there are the maint days. my hat is off to Squidly (poo) who figured out why i could not shift my bike and then fixed it. now, as i get better at fixin n maintainin, i try to pass on what i can when i can to keep the wheels rolling. I want to thank those who host the maint days, too. getting the place ready and then tearing down afterwards, whew, i am getting tired just thinking about that much work. Most of all, i thank all the men and women of the military forces and supporting entites that keep my freedom to ride my scooter and chase my dreams in place.
  7. Ditto to getting well. prayers were sent.
  8. great post, Annie. thanks, it was very enjoyable.
  9. good news. prayers sent for speedy n full recovery.
  10. I believe skepticism is at work here.
  11. Quickstep will need his glasses cause after awhile he will have on his hands the Flash of light - sight ! keep getting well.
  12. It all boils down to poor driving - whether on a bike or cage. poor meaning whatever the action is that causes you to not drive properly. being defensive is a key as has been discussed. i have seen both cage and bikes do dumb things. cages and bikes are tools, we need to use them accordingly. we have 2 cars and 2 trucks, 1 RSV and 2 four wheelers. i try to keep them safe and sound. when we "play" a bit on our bikes, we need to be careful and choose the right place to do it. living in the country i get to to some zipping around on the 4 lane hwy, but i dont' get crazy. I drive carefully on the bike and it has made me a better cage driver.
  13. I had read the write up for the NRA show in my American Rifleman magazine. I just could make it there. these are some big shows. and you get to see what's coming up from arms makers. Was there any news concerning a commemorative model of the 1911 govm't model?
  14. i don't push my speakers hard, nor do i need much bass, so porting them would not be something i would do. for others who may push their audio hard enough, this would be an option.
  15. Brother, that was cutting it soooo close. i don't know how you got away with no walking for gas. must have been what was left in the carbs. maybe just some fumes.
  16. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ seems like there are very few members here who would put the words trusted and dealer in the same sentence. I hope there is one in your area.
  17. Also, when i bought my 04 RSV, the previous owner told me that i had about 30 miles when the "F" odo came up and swtiching to reserve. he smiled when he told me that. so, i don't push it. i just find some gas.
  18. If you don't want to wait on the bike to reset away from the "F" counter, you can press select after filling up and choose trip 1 or 2 then reset to zero. I use this as a closer gauge for amount of fuel left in the tank when getting close to reserve. If i am close enough to gas station, i will let it go to reserve if that far out. i rather watch for stations and fill up before reserve. My best solo mileage was 190 miles on the trip odo and filled up with 4.6 gallons. my best 2up mileage was 184 miles on the trip odo and filled up with 5.1 gallons - went to reserve on that one with gas not far off.
  19. Good luck to you guys. it is tough out there right now.
  20. i will get the best of both tomorrow (Friday). I will ride to work. the tank is already full.
  21. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ while this is an old thread, i tried golf and while it is fun riding around with friends on a cart, i would rather be doing something else. i choose to haul beer too. disclaimer - please be reminded i don't drink and drive and don't condone the practice nor am i advocating it. just sayin i would rather haul beer than golf clubs.

    choke

i hope you guys keep posting about the chokes. while mine is ok now, your solutions could help me out if ever..... i hope you get it ironed out soon. i only run my choke for about 10 to 15 seconds then let it idle a few minutes befor take off. if i don't ride for about a week, i will let it choke up for near a minute, choke in and let idle for a few minutes and shut it down. repeat as necessary.
  23. nails and screws - news near and far - bar
  24. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ yep, that's the part for the plug behind the cylinder cover. I had one pop out and roll into that black hole in the shop. i NEVER found it. James B loaned me one and i have 2 on order with the local yammy shop. they are about 6 bux apiece. I would say loosing one is a drag, but it is really a drain.
  25. Dave, i looked outside and it's not raining.
