  3. as an after thought to this problem, is there anything wrong with pulling the oil pan off to check out what may have accumulated in the pan so it can be cleaned? just wondering really.
  4. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ this is what I now use. i was having shift linkage problems and the previous owner was using heavy axle grease. combined with dust from our gravel road, it gunked up my linkage to the point of not being able to shift. Squidley found this and we used white lithium instead and I have not had a problem since.
  5. Tripod, please keep us updated. I have similar rare occurances of something happening and I would like to know how you get this resolved.
  6. there is nothing to see here, folks. move along.
  7. with the input from the guys, i see why you didn't post this in the ladies lair forum! ! ! !
  8. I am glad you have had good luck with that tire. i have a new Dun E3 on the back of our bike. i only have a few hundred miles on it, but i like how it rides over the Dun 404 that went flat. the front will be replaced with an E3 when it wears down, but i have quite a few miles to put on it yet. while the E3 makes a bit more noise in a curve, it feels like it bites and holds better than the 404. i just like ridin'
  9. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ at the next maint day, i will be wearin' one of them there sports cups just for added peace of mind.
  10. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ you got the government to pay for it??? how, so i can do the same.
  11. If I had the time and an arc welder, this would be a great project. the finished trailer looks nice.
  12. James, man, if i could arrange it, i would tag along. just cant swing it. ride safe. I will keep this in mind, though, wonders do happen.
  13. Tartan, i would like to know what you find as i was thinking of upgrading my stator. is there a possibility of using washers as spacers instead of shorter bolts? I have not read any procedures so I am just thinking out loud.
  14. prayers sent
  15. congratulations on the new family member. it is nice he came into the world safe n sound. are helmets made that small?
  16. Walter, they say 3rd time is the charm and also said things come in three's. so go outside and drop your bike once more and get it over with. with that out of the way, it's better riding days ahead.
  17. ~~~~~~~~~~~ we live in the Mississippi Delta in Louisiana in rice country. we put our house up with 2 footers for each pier, each footer is 3" thick, then the 36" piers set on those. Thank the good Lord we have not had to use that space for water, but when the hundred year flood comes, we will be close to high and dry. it is nice working under there with such a large crawl space. You might consider raising the house you choose to retire in.
  18. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ it's just the learning curve you are in. once you have been through a few things on the 2nd Gen, you'll be Ok.
  19. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ you can say that again ! ! !
  20. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I did a search and forgot Snarley did not list it in the classifieds, just a post in the watering hole - here is the post - "anyone out there that is still young at heart and likes speed. i'm selling my kaw zx-14. finally decided i'm not a kid any more. and i want to retire again. i have $17,000 invested, and i am giving it away (darn near). pm me if interested. bill " Snarley Bill, I hope you don't mind i quoted your original post. Nice scooter, though. i have resisted getting one of those due to what i remember about the 1100 Ninja I had back in the day. those were fun day on that bike. man oh man.
  21. I looked in the classifieds & didn't see it. did i miss the listing?
  22. after reading you use whatever to lean you bike on, you can let the bike lay on the right side and make working on the side stand easy. put down some carpet squares before the lay over. lay it over in reverse of picking it up if it were down.
  23. I will assume the bike is then held up by another means. wood blocks or center stand maybe. anywho, i agree with the post that the side stand is crudded up shut. this type of thing caused my shifter to not return down after toeing up to 3rd and messed the whole she-bang up. I live on a gravel road and that bit by bit of dust making its way into the grease and joint took over over one day. a good cleaning should do it. you just may find some rusting in place to boot. once you have it clean and moving, make it an annual or semi annual job of cleaning it out since you will probably continue your current way of standing the bike up. we are creatures of habit.
