  2. Rick: This is one of the routes that I have nominally planned for my ride up (or down depending on how my timing works out) for this summer (for one of my work trips to Vancouver). I can let you know how it is after I do it if you'd like.

  4. Hmmmm. Now that's funny. Interestingly enough I get 50-60 mpg on my 78 GS750 - that's 750 ccs. My wing would do between 45 and 50 depending on weather and how I rode (1100 CC). Personally, I wouldn't go back to that shop...
  5. Wow, sounds pretty sweet! I am very interested to get, use, test, etc., but sadly ~160 is way out of my price range . Thanks for doing the legwork on this though!! Hopefully you can find enough folks to make it happen!
  6. Howdy: I presume by your comment that you have received the RLAP disc from Kbay. The next person on the list to be contacted is: indianriverjack The two after him are: - 1sttenor -- in Jeff City MO - Condor -- in Carmichael Ca The list can be found on the last page of this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24973&page=21
  7. Buckle up - lots of opinions on this Actually tires are not as heated as a topic as oil is; It seems that the general consensus on tires is down to 3 or 4 brands/types (in no particular order) - Dunlop Elite 3 - Avon Venom-X - Michelin Commanders (- Various car tire options) I currently have a set of Avon Venoms, however, I will soon be going to a set of Dunlop E3s.
  8. Dave: Avon carries a 5 year warranty on their tires for sidewall cracking type issues. That is 5 years from the manufacture date on the tire. you can do some searching and see there are several of members here (myself included) that have gotten their replaced courtesy of Avon. Depending on the severity of the cracking it may not have been anything to worry about - but if you are not comfortable with it, get them replaced and have them cover it. As long as you didn't store the bike by fertilizers (or other chemicals that could potentially weaken the rubber), put tire dressings on them, or leave it out in the sun to bake etc there is no reason that there should be a lot of cracking on the tires. Here is a link to a thread that has some info and other links in it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35029 Good luck. Leadwolf: I have been watching the rear sidewalls on mine crack just like they did before too. I'm going to let it go a little more then go back. The dealer that has been working with offered (last time) to put a different tire on for me. I said no, and that I would give Avon another try since there are a lot of people that have good luck with them. I am about 3/4 of the way through the life of these puppies, and am not going to pursue a replacement based on the wear but I will be putting a set of E3s on before my next big trip (or when this cracking gets bad enough that I am no longer comfortable riding it). Good luck to you my friend. Hopefully we can get out of this bad batch of tires sometime
  9. Glad you made it home safe and as many others, I certainly wish I could have made that trip (or parts of it at least) with you. Sounds like you had a great ride!!
  10. You might find this thread of interest -- Lots of good stuff in here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29320 My list is pretty short but here it is: 1978 Suzuki GS750E (I am the 2nd owner. Got it with 5k or so on it. Currently have 17ish) 1996 Suzuki Bandit 600s 1982 Honda Goldwing Interstate (I am 2nd Owner. Got it with ~42k) 1997 Honda Shadow A.C.E 1100 2001 Yamaha Royal Star Venture (2nd owner)
  11. Zing. Rub it in why don't you! (oh wait, I've been riding too)
  12. Yes sir. I have the 32 LED one on my bike. I bought mine from bikerhiway: http://www.bikerhiway.com/led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html About 2 weeks after I received and installed my 32 LED board, I saw that the 100 LED one was announced. While the 32 LED one is PLENTY bright - even in the day time, I would have been tempted by the 100 LED one but the price on that is a little bit much for me to spend on a replacement light that I don't need. By the way, I believe I paid around 45 for my 32 LED one, although I do see that the price is up to ~53 or so. Anyways, highly visible during the day, and EXTREMELY visible at night. The only thing I would do differently, if I could go back, is I would have ordered one sooner (and for my other bikes too). My reason for buying it through them was that I also purchased a stebel air horn and the combination of the two, including shipping gave me the best price for both items. After dealing with them, I can say that their customer support was top notch. I ordered the plug and play adapter for the air horn (before I read the info on here) and even though it didn't work the way it was supposed to, I got a phone call from them (as per a request via e-mail) and we chatted about how to make it work. They were very apologetic, refunded my money (including shipping) and on top of that, took time to understand why their 'plug and play' adapter didn't function the way they had thought it would. I had a few other questions about some other items that I had ordered later, and they were very friendly and willing to take the time to help out. I would gladly do business with them again. (I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with them other than being a satisfied customer).
  13. :thumbsup2: Cool
  14. Wow. I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are sent for the family and friends.
  15. Wow. Nice work Nina :stickpoke:
  16. As some have pointed out, there seems to be some confusion on what you are looking for. if you want the actual center of gravity on the bike you'll need two measurements (and one assumption). If you assume that the bike is symmetric about the centerline (front to back) one can assume that the center of gravity is located on that centerline. For the other two dimensions (front to back and top to bottom) there are various methods you could use to measure out what you would need to actually compute it. For the front to back, there seems to be some ideas out there already. The easiest one (with household items - ie. bathroom scale and a length measuring device) would be to put the bike up on the center stand and measure the weight on the front tire when at rest. If you assume the book is nominally close to the actual total weight for the bike you have enough information to calculate the front to back center of gravity. For the location on the vertical plane, you will need a second measurement. My proposition, for the simplest approach would be to place a scale (of a suitable max weight) under the side stand and you will need to take a few measurements. 1) reading off of scale 2) distance from point of contact on 'foot' of center stand to the center line of the bike (if you were to draw a straight line down from the center of the bottom of the bike and intersect it with an imaginary line drawn from the center stand to the center-line of the bike -- ie all in the same plane). Now, vary the angle and repeat the measurements. From there it is just a little algebra to solve for what you are looking for. You said that you can do the calculation - but if you would like any clarification on this let me know. I'd be happy to help. Sidenote: Qualifications - I am a Ph. D. student in Physics (M.S. earned last year) and I teach college Physics. Happy measuring!!!
  17. If you are looking for a simple solid color to match your scoot, might I suggest trying a local body shop with some cash (ie. ~$20). Standard automotive paint will not do anything to harm the helmet. If you want to do it your self you could probably do spray paint and then wax it - that may provide a decent finish. It would be wise to investigate a plastic safe rattle can - if you are going to go that route, but it may not matter. My experience/expertise here is limited to automotive paints. Good luck!
  18. CONGRATS BUDDY!!! Sharp looking bike. I do like the white I too hope this works better with your knees and things continue to look up for you and your family.
  19. TERRIFIC!! Earl you are the man! Mine isn't slipping yet, but my mileage is climbing and based on other's experiences/mileage I have been considering having one on hand for the fist sign of it happening to me (or just doing it to have it done and not worry about it). I do have a question for you. I noticed on your ad you have the quantity listed as '20'. Is this going to be an ongoing thing that you will have available or is this going to be a one time deal - when they are gone they are gone? Thanks again Earl for all the work you do!!!
  20. Wow. I've done some crazy things and I'm always up for an adventure - but wow. That just seems like an accident waiting to happen. One loose set of rocks and you are down the side... Yikes. Although, I'm sure you can't beat that view even though I suspect 99% of your attention is focused on the trail and terrain ahead of you. Thanks for sharing this! This was a nice break from work
  21. The pictures are also from 24/May/2009 and not to mention extremely washed out. A very very thorough first hand inspection would be a must for me before I would even consider this bike... But maybe I'm a little paranoid sometimes.
  22. PM sent RE: 30W lamps
  23. Yea, I'm going to go ahead and guess that is the antenna plug...
  24. It just occured to me that you've got yourself a 2009 and you've got the CB apart? Any particular reason? And that would be comical if it was that the antenna was not plugged in (since it is a brand new bike and all)...
