Hey hey!! There's a good lookin' scoot. You picked THE BEST color combo available by the way (but then again I might be slightly biased... ) Be warned that these puppies don't do all that well on the trails; compared to what you were used to anyways.

I call it quits when it gets below 20 (or there is a prospect of ice). Now, if I could find me a good pair of chaps or snow pants or maybe heated gear - I could probably drop that temp down some... But my jeans feel awfully thin when that 20 deg wind starts blowing through them.

My local autozone wants ~11.99/can Advanced autoparts ~11.99 O'Reilies (sp) 8.99 but goes on sale for 6.99 every couple of weeks Walmart - always at 7.99/can. I do know that these prices vary widely area to area. Thanks for the post though!

Great, thanks for letting me know. The no list thing is probably my fault - I do not recall if I actually put it in the one that I sent out or not -- no big deal though since it is maintained on here). Yes, REED is the next one on the list so go ahead and shoot him a message to at least touch base and see if he is still interested - if not, move on down the list. Contacting two or three people at a time with it being clear to them as to the order of which they will receive it (provided the person before them does/does not answer by a specified date and time) is certainly acceptable; but you can do it however you would like. Enjoy!! Hope you learn something

Glad you made it out of the great white north safely!! If you end up anywhere near Lubbock, TX - let me know. I'd be happy to meet up for lunch, ride with you for a bit or whatever.

Did you have a time frame setup for this trip?
-
When I was reading this I was thinking it was geared for cars only (I don't know why, but that was the frame of mind). So when I read: "The worst-case scenarios invariably involve speeding without wearing a seat belt or a motorcycle helmet." I had the thought of 'who the heck wears a motorcycle helmet in the car'? (other than racecar drivers)... It has been one of those weeks... Anyhoot, good post. I had a close call once a few years ago while doing #2 (driving while drowsy). That scared me into never doing that again. I didn't do it intentionally, I had just been driving for a long time (after working a midnight shift and the whole day before) and just didn't realize how tired I was...

Thank You Gary Dinges

You should be... you know, since you are personally escorting all of the packages and driving them around THANKS A LOT for all of your work for these things -
The Oklahoma system actually has instructions as to how to mount them on the bike. For touring bikes, I believe the instructions are to put them in the trunk. However, what I have done in the past on the Illinois toll system (which is setup with the same basic technology as the pike pass) is simply keep it in my jacket pocket (or when I was on my wing, in the fairing pocket) and drive through with it in my pocket. At first, I was holding it above my head, but I did that for a few and decided that maintaining control of the bike was more important than showing the camera (just in case it didn't read the ipass unit) that I had it. You register the vehicle that is going to be used with the device (year, make, model and plate number) and if it doesn't pick up the unit, the system automatically checks to see if you have one then bills your account. What I have found is that if you ride in the tire-tracks (on either 1/3rd of the lane) the device is not picked up anyways so it didn't really matter. I chose to ride in those sections of the lane because there is A LOT of oil and junk that rides in the middle of those lanes and I like to keep my tires out of them. It was just incidental that I found out that the ipass system didn't pick me up there. I have put many many miles on the Illinois toll road with a bike and never had a problem. I have been on the OK toll roads without a problem as well. Just keep the unit in my pocket and have no troubles. P.S. I refused to mount the unit to my windshield because there [at least used to be] a ridiculous fee if you lost the unit itself AND I didn't want to have Velcro stuck to my windshield (or the inside of my trunk, as per the instructions). Hope that helps. Maybe someone else with more experience on the OK toll roads will chime in.

They are not building them in the U.S. anymore, but that doesn't mean that they will stop selling them here. Not too long ago, I had read a review or interview, of some sort, with Honda discussing the changes/improvements to the next Goldwing (I'll poke around to see if I can find that - it was a terrific article) but It will be whatever it will be. All we can do is continue to ride, enjoy and support the manufactures that we like the products of.

I have been in Texas now for 2 and a half years - I can handle these FEW days of snow/ice now and then. I moved here after 4 years in Marquette, MI (in the U.P.). The last april I was in marquette we had 60" of snow in 2.5 days. That was enough for me do be done with that junk. I also lived in Brighton, MI (actually my parents are still there now) and that was better than the UP in terms of snow, but there were many more icy days (since the temperatures were closer to the freezing point) - so either way, I am happy to be in Texas. Enjoy that snow for us up there

COOL! That was creative

Yea, no kidding. I could have ice skated down my driveway this morning. My truck had ~3 inches on it. On the way in to the office, I counted about 6 cars on the sides of the road within a 2 mile stretch... It was pretty sweet. Glad I moved to Texas.

Wow, this is terrific!! I wish I would have known this a long time ago. I have spent more than enough time using the guess and check method on some of these. I guess now I have a fair assortment of bolts... Thanks for the info!!

That's the best color, by the way

Lookin good!

Pretty sweet... I looked at these a while back. :mo money: It is nice to see that someone IS still making a quality product.

Please do!!

Did they have an RSV on the floor? Because that would make it that much better I cannot say I am all that surprised though...

My first ride on a 2007 Midnight Venture
LilBeaver replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Welcome! I would definitely suggest that you take some time to get used to the way it handles before you go and add risers or whatever. Also, if you haven't taken a look at the 'Ride Like A Pro' videos (or taken an MSF saftey course) to learn how to effectively use the combination of the friction zone (within the clutch) and rear brake for low speed maneuvering, you'll be in for a treat. It took me some time but I can u-turn my rsv on a 2-lane road all day long now (after some practicing in a clean parking lot with the proper technique). I was real concerned after my first ride about the 'top heavy' nature of the bike (just like almost everyone else in here... those that will admit it at least ). You have certainly experienced your fair share of bikes. The RSV has its big pros and cons, just like any other bike on the market but sounds like you are pretty happy already! Oh yea, what kind of tires do you have on it? I have heard that the stock bridgestones (I believe) are terrible for low speed handling. Anyhoo - glad you like your bike... By the way, it is sortof a rule here that if you get a new bike, or do something to it, we need to see pictures Keep the rubber down and shiny side up -
Don't forget about pictures when you get it!
