  1. OOOoooo yea it is cooling off. The low tonight is 62!
  2. This is cool! Good for him!
  3. Geeze, what a rip. We've got to have someone close to a retail store...
  4. its the lazy-man's exercise bike!
  5. Sheesh! You Canadians pay more than I do... and according to the Insurance companies I am a 'high risk' driver. (No tickets or incidents... Just a male under 25)
  6. Brad: You may want to do a voltage test to make sure that you are only getting the ~13V you are supposed to be through your system. I had a nasty squeal through mine when my regulator stopped working. I realize this is a rare thing (and there are probably many other possible causes of this), but it is high impact if it goes out while you are riding as it can do serious damage to the other electrical components. As for the clicking (and other options to deal with the squeal) I'm sure someone else can chime in with good suggestions.
  7. I have seen this many times and I've been on the Yamaha site trying to figure it out and cannot seem to find it so I'm just going to ask. What is the difference between the "Royal Star Venture" and the "Royal Star Venture S"?
  8. Yup - it is a 5 amp fuse
  9. I am 5'8" (with my shoes on) but a 33" inseam have the stock sized tires (they are Avons, but stock size) and had similar feelings with the low speed handling the first few times I rode it (beyond my test ride that is). I will not restate anything that anyone has said here since good advice has been mentioned multiple times. What I do have to offer is that now that I have put some hours in the saddle, I have no problems handling this bike at low speeds solo or with a passenger. It took some time, but just making sure I used the things I learned when I was trained to ride helped a lot. One thing that stuck out was that you said you do okay when you are solo and have some difficulties when you are 2-up. You also mentioned that your wife DRIVES a bike sometimes. Something to try would be to talk with her and have her pay attention to what SHE does while you are driving and maneuvering. What may be happening (possibly without either one of you realizing it) is that since she has been driving, she may inadvertently be leaning or moving as SHE would when SHE is DRIVING while YOU are trying to do the maneuvering. This behavior may not have been so evident on your classic due to the size difference and especially the location of the center of gravity when loaded 2-up. What any passenger should do at low speeds is sit perfectly still. Like a sack of potatoes or a hunk of concrete that is stuck to the back seat. Stay in perfect line with the bike, no movement at all (not even head turning when going slow enough). Hope this helps give you some ideas at least. Good luck!
  10. Isn't that what the emergency disengage deal is for?
  11. Looks great! Makes me wish I had that kindof service when I bought mine Great lookin bike. Looks like ya'll sure made him feel welcome.
  12. Sweet! How did the beard go over?
  13. I just got in from a couple hour ride... NOW I have to do the stuff around the house that I should have been doing instead of riding...
  14. With as much as I would be interested in seeing what else they come up with, do hope that they hold on to the current 2nd gen design for a while... I sure like being able to get parts easily (for a reasonable price) and I am not done accessorizing yet... I chose the Venture over a Valkyrie Interstate for just a few reasons. One being the parts availability... Just my
  15. Geeze, I must be getting old or something ! Sorry about that... one of these days I will learn to read .
  16. I wouldn't worry about the age. Just keep an eye on them. If anything on them starts to go south, call Avon up (or send them an e-mail) and say you'd like them replaced under warranty and they will take care of you (may be prorated depending on the mileage). Enjoy!
  17. Are ya'll talking about the Standard from the H-D dealer, or the guy trying to sell the Royale with 200 miles on it?
  18. HAHA! I'd be all over that
  19. I spoke with an Avon rep a few months ago when I was dealing with some issues I had with the Avons and I asked about the marked spot on the tire. The rep told me (and it could have been a line of b.s. but this is what he said) that they purposely do not mark the tires which is supposed to encourage a proper balance after the tire is mounted. Again, this could have been just a line of b.s. BUT I guess it maybe has potential to make a little sense... Although the rear one I had that was replaced had the dot on it - so maybe someone else will chime in with a real answer. The manufacture date is a 4 digit number in an oval somewhere on the sidewall of the tire following the DOT code - I have attached a picture showing it, although it may be a little difficult to see in the photo itself (when I get home in a little while I can take a better picture if you would like... This is just what I have on my computer). As far as how long the tires sit in a warehouse before they get mounted, all I can share with you is my personal experience. The first set of Avons that were on my bike the previous owner had put on right before I picked the bike up (I have the paperwork showing when he purchaced and mounted the tires, at the dealer) and the tires were 3.5 years old at that time. Both of those tires have been replaced [by Avon] under warranty due to the sidewall cracks that only showed up AFTER the tires had been mounted (ie. the tires were perfect when I picked them up and within a few weeks - well you can see what the sidewal looked like in the photo) - The replacements are both from early 2008 and these replacements happend 1 and 3 months ago (rear/front respectively). On another bike that I have, I put a set on that had a date stamp of just a few weeks old. So this is my experience... All of the tires before these, I had never thought to look at the date code, I had incorrectly assumed that I bought new tires that were, well... new. As far as you getting poopooed for purchasing your tires on the internet - I just as soon not tell the folks where the tires come from or tell them if they match the price I'll buy from them. And if it is really that big of a deal to them, take your business elsewhere. LOTS of places mount and balance tires. (I have found that my local honda dealership can actually get the tires that I want cheaper than I have found them anywhere - by a longshot; so I go to them). Hope this helps! by the way, you'll want to take it easy on those until you get them scuffed in - they are pretty slick right away... Don't ask me how I know
  20. I'm with Squidley on this one, let a trusted dealer take a look at it (once you have checked obvious stuff like the bolts on the saddlebags and trunk, and anywhere else you can get to easily for that matter). Vibrations could be anything as simple as that or be something real serious.
  21. Hehe - if he is brave enough to come back!
  22. Tracking says the brown truck left mine on the door step today... Looking forward to using it as well!
  23. Mine are spotlights (not fog-lights) so my preference is for them to be on with the high-beams only (While increased visibility during the day is a good thing, a blinded cage or truck coming at me is not exactly something I want to face at night). I'm going to pick up a new switch so that I can wire these up to give me three options; 'always off', 'switched with headlight as desired', 'on all the time, regardless of headlight operation'.
  24. If you are serious about this, I have a buddy that has been talking about getting one for quite some time now. I'd have to check with him to see if he is able to pull the trigger right away or not - but if you get me year, mileage, condition, etc and of course, what you want for it I can pass the info on to him and see where it goes.
