  1. I don't know how to create a poll, but, I'm curious as to the biggest fill-up you've had. A couple times I've done more than 5.8 gallons, but, today was my biggest: 5.976 Gallons. Talk about running on fumes! Guess you could say I just about maxed out the available gas. And some say you can't get 6 gallons in the tank.
  2. I can hear the switch move when the magnet comes close to the switch, so I don't think it's defective. I have both types of switch (NO & NC) & get the same results with both switches: the lights are always on whether or not the magnet is in contact. They are LEDs, so there shouldn't be much draw to turn them on. I appreciate you guys trying to help me, but, I guess I'm not smart enough to understand what's wrong. It's very frustrating.
  3. OK. I've tried it wired one way, didn't work correctly: always on regardless of magnetic contact. Wired it the opposite way, didn't work correctly: always on regardless of magnetic contact. Tried to run a separate ground off of the negative wire that goes back to battery, also with both ways of wiring it. I just don't get it. The light is always on, no matter what.
  4. So, does that mean I have a separate ground wire attached to the negative wire that goes to the battery?
  5. OK. I'm still confused. I can't get it to work correctly. When I attach the wires to the switch from the light & then attach the other end of the wires to the battery, the light comes on. When the magnet half of the switch comes in contact with the half that has the wires attached, there is no change. The light is still on. What must I do to get the light to turn off when the magnet half contacts the wired half of the switch? Do I need to have a separate wire to ground?
  6. Has anyone here tried this yet? Sounds pretty neat. I wonder how much it costs. . . . Found it for $456 for a pair, maybe? Find a buddy to go in half? Wow!
  7. OK. According to your diagram I must splice in a ground wire off the negative wire to the battery?
  8. Yes, I understand. I have 1 of each type because I didn't know which I needed. They are in 2 parts: 1 with the screws to attach the wires & 1 that is the other magnet (I assume). These are typically used for windows or doors with a security system that is set off by opening the window or door. Here's a picture of the switch: http://cache3.smarthome.com/images/7113.jpg. The far left part I don't think I need. Is that correct?
  9. Need some help. Anyone here know the difference between these 2 switches? I'm trying to install some LED lighting in my trunk so that when I open the trunk, the lights come on & when I close the trunk, the lights go out. Just testing the switches with the lights attached, I hooked up to my truck battery, but both switches turn the lights on & when the other side of the switch comes in contact, the lights don't go out. Regardless of the switch (open loop or closed loop), the lights are on whether in contact with the other half of the switch or not. What am I missing? Thanks.
  10. Have you got some part numbers for those? Thanks.
  11. I've put more than 5.8 gallons in mine a few times, so I'm sure it's correct. Of course, I've punched the holes in the filler neck, which helps get more gas in.
  12. Met the guy & introduced myself & my wife. Gave him a VR.org card. Maybe he'll check us out.
  13. Hey Don, Now that this is a "subscription site", will the VR Assistance List be changed to only include those subscribed? And what about the total members tally? It's currently showing well over 7K members. Will it only show the total paid members? Just curious. The membership fee now in place would still be a bargain at 5 times the amount. I've learned so much here & thank you, Don, & all the members for making & keeping this site so friendly. I think one would be hard-pressed to find another forum that has the overall great attitude that this one has. Well done. I've yet to actually meet anyone here, but look forward to that happening.
  14. I've also got Yamaha's trunk spoiler & am not happy with the LED strip not being aligned very well, although I do like it. I've toyed with the idea of replacing the original LEDs with about a 5" center strip of red LEDs for the run/brake light & a 3" strip of amber LEDs on each side of the center strip wired up as additional turn signals, but it would cost about $100 more to do that. I'll probably do this some day when I've got the extra cash to throw down. (Looking for approval/encouragement to finally do it.) It's so darn hard not to spend my money on this bike.
  15. Front on always at dim. Bright when blinking. Rear off until blinking.
  16. Yes. Check this link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25035&highlight=leveling+links
  17. I just installed this, BUT... How do you tighten the 1/2" nut that sits behind the air nut? I don't have a wrench thin enough to do this. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  18. Thanks Goose. As long as it's done infrequently, as it is, I assume everything should be just fine?
  19. I'm hoping the infinite wisdom here can help me with this. When I really jump on it and get the rpms up, my oil light comes on. At my last service (20K) I mentioned this and they said they couldn't duplicate it, but it still does it every time I jump on it (not that often). I thought it might be that I didn't have quite enough oil in it, so I added a little to no effect. Anyone else have this problem? What did you do about it? I'm now due for my 24K service and want to mention it again, but my thinking is that they never tested it the first time. I just don't like when an idiot light comes on because I know it's talking to me. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hey BuddyRich, What color red is it? I've got the 2006 Black Cherry. Thanks.
  21. Also, in the VentureRider information under the city field, I put my city followed by the state abreviation, then also put the state info in the state field, as well.
  22. I had a V Star 1100 when I found this site, too . I wear ear plugs & have the radio or iPod playing, so, I don't hear much from the engine. Those rare times when I'm without the ear plugs, I turn off the tunes & listen. Yes, I hear a bit of a whine then, but not enough to bother me. I know it's not something wrong with it. It's just the nature of the beast & the ear plugs & tunes take care of the rest. I love this bike.
  23. About 1200 miles for me so far this year here near Seattle.
