No, not a big job. Yes, the tank piece will fit tight enough. I did the same to my 06.

Bike Cover...Hmmmm, a shortie maybe
awsmsrv replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've got this one. Looks like this. Oh, I almost forgot. Mention you're a member here & you'll get 10% off. -
I echo what most here are saying: ATGATT. Full-faced helmet, Neck Gator if cold, Kevlar Mesh Jacket with armor (liner when cold or wet), Kevlar Mesh Pants with armor (liner when cold or wet), Boots, Full-Fingered Gloves (heated when cold), Foam Ear Plugs, which actually allow me to hear everything more clearly. The following may not be considered clothing, but, I think it helps protect me, as well: Extra tail/brake lights, extra turn signals, modulated brake lights, modulated headlight, passing lamps, Stebel air horn, wider than stock (Clearview) windshield, backrest. Other than all of these physical things to help protect me, I try to predict what other drivers could do to hurt me (whether because they're distracted/not paying attention/don't see me) & try to avoid being anyplace that gives them that opportunity to hurt me. In other words, the mental side of the equation. Stay alert, stay safe, stay alive. Can't predict everything, so, just be ready for idiocy. That's my story & I'm stickin' to it.

No, but, I went behind the mirror (I have Jardine Cruiser mirrors that I got when I had my V Star 1100 Silverado), behind the mirror stalk with zip ties, & tied into the wires coming out of the headlight/turn signal unit. Pretty easy to do. Since my mirrors are not flat (convex), I had to add some 3M foam tape to the back of the signals so they'd stick. The stock mirrors may not work as well, since they are a bit smaller than what I have, but, I'm not sure about that.

Yes, they are amber, but, they also are available in red. The part number for the amber is LB05A & LB05R for red. The link is in my first post.

Just took a few pics of the sequential turn signals I installed a couple weeks ago. Sorry about the quality of them, but, you should get the idea. I got them from Custom Dynamics. Whatcha think?
-
Wow. You like living on the edge, don't you. Good luck (& I don't mean finding a bike)!
-
No cutting or splicing.
-
That should do it. Notice it says NOT to use it with incandescent bulbs because they'll burn out.
-
You mean, you KNOW you saw it.

Go here.

Yes. Regardless of the load, the flasher flashes at the DOT rate.
-
Yes, it does. Now the armor is better than when I bought mine, but, also more expensive now than when I bought it.
-
Yes, it does. That's why I went with the electronic flasher. They now flash at the proper rate, but, you could just let them flash faster, which might get peoples' attention, as well.

I have the Motoport/Cycleport Ultra II Air Mesh Kevlar Jacket & the Air Mesh Kevlar Pant & love them both. They're good year round. For summer, just take out the liners & you have all the breeze you could ever want. I recently had a problem with the right leg zipper of the pants liner after 3 years. I sent it back to them for repair & they fixed it & sent it back to me at no charge in less than 2 weeks. How's that for service?!?! I'll never go back to leather, either. http://www.motoport.com/images/ultra2lge.jpg http://www.motoport.com/images/am-kev-pant-lge.JPGfile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Bob/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.pngfile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/Bob/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.png

Windshield HEIGHT advice
awsmsrv replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, I cut my short Clearview down 1.5". Now I look over it. I prefer that, even if I do get a wee bit more buffetting. It's also about 5" wider. -
Sorry Charlie. It happened to me 10 years ago, too. Got a good one since then. Goin' on 5 years now. BTW, I'm very interested to know how you like that trailer. I've had my eye on that one, but, with the pet hatch, so we could take the pugs if we wanted to.

Great Idea for an Interior Trunk Light!
awsmsrv replied to dragerman's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
OK. Here are some pics of the lights in my trunk. The first one is with the lights on with no flash, so, you can get an idea how well they light up the trunk. The second one is with the lights on with a flash (looks like they're off). The last one is of the mercury switch. Everything is wired directly to the battery. Since they're all LEDs, almost no draw. Great Idea for an Interior Trunk Light!

Yep, that's what I did last summer. I put 2 1-foot-long led strips inside the lid next to the strips of the the trunk rack with a mercury-type switch that turns them on when the lid is opened enough, then turns off when you close it. One of the better mods I've done. Here's what & where I got them. -
I don't use the built-in FM radio (not stereo, besides). The RSV stereo is fine for me, or use my iPod Nano. As far as the battery goes, I use mine about an hour a day & don't recharge it until the 1st of the month. Mind you, that's usually just on standby, not a lot of phone use or intercom use. Only once has it been depleted before the month was out.
-
My wife & I have them & love them, whether on the same bike or separate bikes. They work up to about 1/3 of a mile, sound is great. When I'm on the phone, no one even knows I'm on the bike. They hear nothing but my voice. You won't regret getting them. That said, there is the new G4 that's due out within the month, I believe. You might want to wait for that, since that can receive stereo bluetooth. Just a thought.

Yep, we've got a couple of them, too. So ugly they're cute. Sandy & Rocky. Female & male. We let them have a couple of litters before we neutered them. We affectionately called the offspring a bunch of "pebbles". Sandy, Rocky, Pebbles. Sandy had 5 puppies in litter one & 8 puppies in litter two, but one died. We sold them at 8 weeks old in 2 days. I was amazed how quickly they went. If you've never had pugs before, they are characters. We laugh a lot at ours. Enjoy.

Head-Set Pig Tail Holder - Tank Placement ?
awsmsrv replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Since I don't use it, I just tucked it under the black plastic thing surrounding the ignition. Doesn't touch anything. -
I just put the Excel file on my BlackBerry, so, I've got everyone's email & phone without the paper copy and can email/phone someone directly from that file.

where do i find a set of..................
awsmsrv replied to Bigjohn6886's topic in General Tech Talk
They're the clutch & brake "reservoir" lids. I've got the chrome lids with "Royal Star" on the clutch side & "Venture" on the brake side.
