  1. This is just my opinion, so any and everyone take it for just that. Let it go, I dont think that you'll recoup any real monies from the bike. Myself, I wouldn't want it around to remind me of the accident, but that is just me. If you feel that it will help you heal, then by all means keep it, otherwise I would let it go and close that chapter.
  2. Dave, You sure the 140/90 isn't a 16? the 1st gen rear tire is 140/90-16 and the G2 is the 150/90-15
  3. If your worried about a flat tire then install this before you leave http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=576
  4. I would look elsewhere than the R/K mufflers Jeff. That doesn't seem like it would cause that problem unless gas was pouring out of them. I have had drilled R/K's on my last 2 RSV's and have done many highway miles with them on....something doesn't add up to me on this
  5. Thanks Yammer...no big rush, just want to get it done before touring season is in full swing Carl.....what can I say....nah never mind
  6. Larry, I would 1st try to change out the clutch fluid completely, install fresh brake fluid in it and bleed it well. Sometimes the old fluid can make it do strange things, start with the easiest and then troubleshoot more if needed....we'll be here for you
  7. It does feel like a new bike when you just plain get rid of the brickstones. It's a great upgrade for sure...enjoy the ride Jacques
  8. The rear caliper and the left front are linked, it's a bit tough to lock them up, but I'm sure if you tried hard enough you could. Unfortunately yours being an '84 doesn't have as good a brake system as the 1300's. I would try and use a good quality sintered brake pad such as the EBC HH series, thats what I use on mine.
  9. I have done 800 miles on a 2nd gen, and it's not worth it if you have 2 days. 500 miles days are a breeze on the Venture, about 9 hours worth of riding and your not wore out. There will be a getting used to period with this bike, so dont push it. RandyA's list is a good one, but do yourself a favor and go into the VR assistance page and print it out. If you run into problems you will have numbers of folks that are more than willing to come and help you. The only thing you need to remember is have fun and enjoy the ride, it wont get much better than this ride your about to take BTW welcome to the club, hope to see lots more of you here
  10. Absolutely, it's so easy you'll freak
  11. My CRS is getting bad, I want to swap my '86 VR's suspension over to the standard set up. I can't stand the CLASS system on these 20+ YO bikes as they are too fickle. I want to change over to the manual valve system for airing the shocks up. If anyone has an old 1200 sitting around that they use for parts and has both the front and rear schrader setups, please get ahold of me and we can do some dealing....Thanks
  12. FYI...the 1200cc rack is different from the 1300cc rack as the trunks are removeable on the 1200's
  13. Brian, There is only 1 size tire that fits on the 1st gen, it's not like the G2 with the narrow size or the stock size. What you want to order for the front is 120/90-18 65H Avon Venom X.
  14. Shell Rotella T is the one, I run it in my bikes. I dont know that there is more than one, just as long as it's the energy conserving your cool
  15. I'll tell you to go with the PCW as it is a bit cheaper and very easy to install. I know others that have the Barnett and are happy with it also, it's a good system, just more money. I have personally done 4 of the PCW kits and they work awsome, John Ganey is a great guy to work with and he's a small business which I like to support. You can do the swap out without even changing the oil, set it on the sidestand, take the cover off and do the change. Mechanically inclined 30 minutes, not so much 60 to 90....I know others will chime in here also.
  16. ....a noise suppressor for my '86, seems the sterio wont work without it If any of you 1st genners have a spare one that works and you would like to get rid of, I would be happy to pay you a reasonable price for it
  17. Just put the '86 on with full coverage with Progressive 250/500K Body inj 100K property damage 250/500K uninsured/underinsured 20K medical benefit roadside asst. 250 deductable 3K in accy coverage $336.15 yr
  18. Thanks again Jack for all the effort, I know just what a PIA it is to undertake such a project
  19. JB, Are you looking for the rack that the trunk sits on or the one you put a bag on top of the trunk....just so there is no confusion?
  20. You contribute more than you imagine my friend Looking forward to meeting you folks soon, hopefully at Maintenance Day
  21. Sometimes it's just so much nicer to spank them than to respond
  22. What are we gonna do with you Dan Looks good Silvr, can't wait to see the finished product
  23. Like Mike (Albino Rhino) mentioned, a torque wrench is nice as you can break off the pressure plate bolts easily as I believe the torque is 6 ft lbs (5.8)
  24. I have had a few Ventures that naked before...getting pretty good at doing it too now If you run into problems Lew, give me a call and we'll make all well with the Venture world, looking forward to seeing you at Don's
  25. Good soundbite Curt, I know that will help a lot of folks that want to know what they sound like
