  1. Russell is around...just busy GW....Hard to say about your covers, something could not be aligned properly and that could mean lots of difference 12" from that point. The upper fairings need to be properly placed if they have been removed. Gotta remember this is 20 year old plastic and sometimes it just takes a shape after so long and doesn't want to come back. I have to replace some of my pins on the '86 I just bought. I have ysed a method of Ford door panel clips that work great. I'll get a package and get it up on the site. As long as the base of the pin is still intact then this works great.
  2. You old folks need your exersize, you better keep using that push mower and get yourself back into shape
  3. Good to hear, glad you like them, I know you'll love the sound better than stock. We'll get out that way this summer, they cut my overtime way back...so that means no working on weekends
  4. I haven't had any dealings with shipping a car, a bike I could help you with. Perhaps you could go to one of your local car dealers and ask them if they have a special request for a vehicle who they use. They might be able to steer you in a direction
  5. Cindy, Your opening yourself up for multiple lawsuits saying we had the honor of your presence here....it is very obviously the other way around. We might let a statement like you have made pass because Dale is such a level headed dude...after all....he does put up with you
  6. It's been uncommonly nice here in Michigan low to mid 70's and sunny, which it doesn't get any better in April....and I have had Bronchitis for the last week listening to all the bikes ride by. I'm being punished for something I did I'm sure of it
  7. You might be right GW I know that many of the Michigan crew run the Avon Venom's, which when I refer to Avons that is what I am talking about. I have never heard any of them claim to have this problem, so it's surprising to hear that obviously others have run into this issue. Perhaps there is more of a break in period with them for some. Another thing I noticed is them saying about it subsiding with a passenger on the bike. Now I'm not a little guy at almost 300 lbs, I know I can safely say that I outweigh Carl alone and Robin and Wayne combined. Could be that it's a weight issue on the rear until it breaks in.....I dont know. This one is really turning out to be a head scratcher, I'll be interested if we can see it through and come up with a decent solution. After all....this is why this site exsists right you know besides eating
  8. Just a note here, the leveling links will actually raise the rear of the bike aby about an inch. This will be felt in the seat also, it will help the slow speed steering a bit as your changing the steering geometry of the front, but it's not a failsafe. I'm also in the club and the best thing to remember is dont hit the front brakes quick while going slow. It takes a lot of getting used to, to be able to master these beasts. They are heavy and demand respect...which I humbly give them
  9. Did you say you were buying lunch!!! How about a late supper
  10. Al, If you dont cut the ones off of your factory mufflers then yes you will. As mentioned there is a thread about it in the tech library. There are also posts about clapms that will work and look good. Spotsy, If you have the 2 small baffle plates completely out of the mufflers then thats all of the mod that most folks do. I would imagine if you try to remove all the baffling then you stand a good chance at destroying the mufflers, and they would be obnoxioiusly loud. If your looking to get a loud exhaust system you'll have to look at some of the aftermarkets.
  11. Folks have to be vigilant with that, I know I get excited when I can actually get back out on the bike. Good thing to keep in mind so we dont end up there either
  12. Guys just 1 word.....RUN!!!
  13. FWIW.... Dont waste your time with measuring the seafoam, dump a full can into a full tank of gas. Granted that is a very concentrated mix, but will clean it up better than anything. I have always put an entire can in when I do it, and run it hard for at least 50 miles. I think your issue will be completely gone
  14. If I'm not mistaken the '83 was the one with the majority of the frame issues. I dont believe that would be an issue...but it's a good thing to bring up. I'm sure this problem will work itself out, I really dont see the tires being the main culprit here. If there was a flaw in the workmanship I would think that the issue would rear it's head at slower speeds and progressively get worse.
  15. Good to hear you got it on the run Carlos, sometimes the easiest things are the last that we think of
  16. GW, I tend to disagree, I believe that this an isolated incident. There are MANY folks here that run Avons on 1st gens with zero issues like this. I have had 4 sets of Avons on 1st and 2nd gens with none of this problem occuring. Seeing as Wayne and Carl both had there tires balanced at the same place leads me to look heavily in that direction. It was mentioned that Carl had the tire rebalanced and the weight came out minimal due to spinning the tire on the rim. A good tire man will do that if he sees that a tire is taking a lot of weight. I think this problem will come out in the wash as Carl has run Avons on this bike before.
  17. Craig, If it's any concellation I would love to ride with you, but having a bike that needs a little TLC and Bronchitis is making it hard....you have a great ride
  18. Other than ebay, the only other thing I would mention is to put an ad in the classifieds under the wanted section. Perhaps there would be a member that has one and would be willing to part with it.
  19. I'm looking forward to seeing it this year Bob
  20. Yeah I know, but atleast get the damn year and cc's right....I know I know
  21. Is it just me or does all the info not add up Don't smell right to me
  22. Carlos, The ignition switches fail and do strange things, it seems like it might be pointing in that direction. Sleeperhawk had a problem a few weeks ago with the bike just dying and they got it back going by spraying the hell out of the inside of the switch with WD 40. Give that a try and I would look into replacing that switch soon.
  23. I kind of figured that was it, but I wanted to be sure. Some folks here on the site get very upset when a mass email goes out, even though they have the ability to control it through their settings. .....thanks for thinking of my health though...pops
  24. You will have to swap over the trunk bracket also but it can be done. Matter of fact the '85's had the same style trunk (space wise) but the backrest wasn't adjustable like on the 1300's ('86 and up) and if I'm not mistaken they are still removeable like the '83 and '84 trunk. Marcarl has an '85 and I'm sure will chime in and pass on his .02 worth. You can do it and to me it's a great improvement as there is a decent amount more space in the 1300 trunk.
  25. I have seen a few tweaked Ventures beat crotch rockets
