  1. Too bad they didn't have that available when I was up there last year picking up the TC. I'd have bought it instead!! Decatur is where the Mum lives, so picking up that beauty would not be a problem. I WANT ONE!!!
  2. :sign yeah that: A day late but what the heck!!
  3. Sounds familiar. Our old mobile home had mirror film on the windows. We learned just how territorial cardinals can be when one male spent most of an afternoon repeatedly crashing into the window glass. He kept trying to chase away the "other male" that he saw there. He and his mate had made their nest in the huge shrubs that were growing alongside the house and he was trying to drive the "stranger" off.
  4. Question about the lil guy in the last pic. Was he listening to the race or did his folks have him in the smallest hearing protection headset I've ever seen??
  5. I live out in the country just off US Hwy 290. It's not uncommon, especially with this lovely bike riding weather we're having, to see lots of bikes on the road. Seeing one pulling a trailer is also not that uncommon. The doubletake was the one this morning who was not only pulling one of the mini camping trailers but also the canoe/kayak he had tied to the top of it!!! It had to be a one person craft. Anything bigger and he'd either being hitting the rear of the bike, or himself, in the back!! I'm in serious riding withdrawl. Between work and stuff going on at home [a visit from the Mum!], I've only gotten in a "quick" 40 mile run during the BIG MD just a couple weeks ago. Here's hoping I can get out this weekend and blow out some serious cobwebs!!
  6. I bought my RSTC end of June last year. I rode it home from east central Illinois to my home just outside Houston with a slight detour to a MD in Louisiana, some 1400+ miles or so total. I got both the Mustang Solo and a "Butlerized" stock seat with the bike. I shipped the modded seat home and rode the Mustang. This was the longest trip I've ever done on a bike, on the biggest bike I've ever ridden [outside of a few short rides on a RSV] and I was doing it cold turkey, on a bike I'd never ridden before. OH FUN!! I stand 5'6", am very "chubby", and short legged. I cannot quite flatfoot the RSTC with the Mustang seat mounted. But after three days of spending up to and over 10 hours a day in the "saddle", I could still walk! The only problem I had was being dead tired at the end of a day's riding. As for the Butler seat, I have it mounted on the bike now. I can flatfoot the bike with it on it. Comfy is probably the best word for it. No long rides as yet but I don't have the problems with the B. seat that I had with the stock seat on my 650. My reccomendations are that you get your seat "Butlerized" and see how that works out for you. If it doesn't work [and you'll be one of the very few it doesn't work for] then go for one of the aftermarket seats. There is a chrome rail for the solo seats. Whether or not you can use it with a backrest, I don't know. My bike was originally equipped with the Utopia backrest but the PO kept it as it also fit the RSV he replaced the RSTC with. Have fun and enjoy the ride!!
  7. This mod is also called the RAK, Ram Air Kit mod. I've done it to my 650. The bike must be rejetted to accomodate the extra air flow. Otherwise, something like my 650 runs like it's being strangled. We started the mod at a MD, the first one I ever attended with the Houston mob. Since we couldn't get the carb screws out, I had to ride it home as is. Definitely NOT fun! Got a friend of mine who is a race mechanic to do the rejet. Cruisers are definitely not his thing but as a favor to me, he took it on. It did improve the bike's performance. Upped the "get up & go" and the mpg a bit. Only thing I have to watch out for is the local wasp population doesn't try out the inside of the air breather as their new home, something they did to my old Atlantic!
  8. DW commented on that as it was Tide who was his primary sponsor when he won his Daytona 500 and did the infamous "Icky Shuffle" :dancefool:if memory serves on the 17th day of the month, in the #17 Tide car and on his 17th attempt to win the darn thing. DW got to lord it over Earnhardt Sr. [his words] for two years before the #3 car and it's driver finally won his Daytona 500 on his 20th try.
  9. This may belong in the "Jokes" threads. . . . As most of you know, there was quite a blaze in the Daytona 500 last week when the 42 car broke, Montoya lost control, and the car nailed the back end of one of the track's jet dryers. To call it a small blaze would be an understatement as the line of fire stretched across the width of the track thanks to 200 gallons of jet fuel. Add the 30+* banking and fighting it was "fun" too. It took a fork lift to get what was left of the truck off the track. Well, there were comments made by the broadcast crew over the track's use of Tide laundry detergent to clean the remains of the fire and the stuff used to kill it off the track so they could go back racing. Tide has taken that piece of film and made a commercial out of it. The captions read " You keep inventing stains.", then "We'll keep inventing ways to get them out."
  10. The Busas were added to the OHP stable for the express intention of catching the idiots who think they can outrun one. From what I understand the first one was taken as part of a drug seizure and has custom built saddlebags and electrical system to handle the lights and other OHP equipment. I'm curious as to how OHP picks the officers that get to ride them. A HD police bike they are NOT!
  11. Fellow member Owen had one. He was on it the first time I met him but had sold it by our second meeting. Reason for selling? He said he could feel his IQ drop 50 points every time he got on it! Some folks I've talked to refer to them as the Yammy version of a Hayabusa. In any case, they are definitely one of those bikes where you had better keep your head in the game or it will have you for lunch. Speaking of the Busas, I'd definitely love to talk to the Okla Highway Patrol officers who ride them on duty. Something tells me they'd have some stories to tell.
  12. \ Providing, of course, that your Walmart carries it. Mine doesn't.
  13. Good thing I just bought my luggage rack from him and not the darn bike!!
  14. I can't make it this Saturday and Sunday is also probably a no go, but next weekend is another matter. Nothing in the works for those dates so far so I should be able to make it if the workathon continues. I've lots of experience handling a paint brush as I used to make my rent doing house cleaning/repair work for my landlord back in the day.
  15. I remember that myself. It was quite something! I also remember the stink some peple raised when he went up in the shuttle. Stuff them!! If anyone had the right to go up again, it would be one of the Mercury astronauts!
  16. A friend of mine uses his SW as a daily rider. 45k miles and counting. I highly reccomend a Givi WindScreen and Top Case for the SW. Greg has those on his and we both had them on our old Aprilia Atlantics [that's how we met], 500cc maxi scooters. It makes riding so much easier as well as increases your storage on the bike. I rode my Atlantic from where I live just outside Houston up to my mum's in Central Illinois and back with no problems. That trip was 2k+ miles and I had no trouble keeping up with the lunatics on the interstate. I actually miss it. If they were still available in country [Atlantics were pulled from the US market in '05], I would have replaced that one with another just like it. Maxi scooters are definitely a case of "Don't knock it until you've tried it!!"
  17. Welcome to the madhouse!! Congrats on the RSV! This site is the main reason why I was willing to risk buying a 15 year old bike, my '96 Royal Star Tour Classic. If the answer to a question is not on here someone will know what it is!! Assorted things I've picked up belonging to the group. Tires of choice seem to be mostly Dunlop E3's, which are on my RSTC, or the Avon Venoms. I go along with a complete fluid change, nose to tail, something that is going to be done on my bike [bought last year] at the next maintenance day gathering for the Houston group which takes place the end of March. Also ditto on the Seafoam, great stuff, I've been running some thru every tank of gas on my bike as it spent most of the last two years [and a good part of the time since I got it] sitting in the PO's garage [or my yard:D]. This is a great bunch of people. They are more than willing to do what they can to help you with your bike. I joined as I was looking at getting a RSV. We get together for rides, "meet & eats" where everybody meets up at a restaurant for munchies and finding out what everyone else is up to. The Maintenance Days are great fun where everyone gets together at one member's house. Everyone works on everyone else's bikes, lots of good food, good company, and it saves you a fortune in repair/maintenance bills. We've had folks haul their bikes in from out of state to find out what was wrong and get it fixed. Our fearless leader, FreeBird, has one that I'm told has had over 200 bikes show up for it, from all over the country. My local bunch's next one, held at Kregdoodle's place just outside Houston, had over 70 people at it last year, and he's expanding it to three days this year with a local dealer bringing in preordered parts and a selection of demo bikes for us to try out. The list of things I'm getting together to be put on, mounted on, or done to my RSTC is getting longer by the day! My biggest problem so far is trying to figure out how to get me, my bike, all the parts, AND my mother [who will be here visiting] down to Kreg's house! OH FUN!!
  18. I've always found the older Sean Connery sexy. I was never a big fan of his 007 films until he did the last one! Just wish he'd come out of retirement to do Indy Jones IV. Years ago I found a coffee table book titled "The History of the Pin Up". One of the pictures I remember to this day. An absolutely stunning young lady in a pose similar to the one Betty Grable made famous [anyone remember that one?] wearing not a heck of lot more than a long feather boa. The caption cracked me up. It read " Lucille Ball, Yes that's right, Lucille Ball, in the Eddie Cantor film "Roman Scandals" in 1933!
  19. Wanna bet that Ravens kicker will be kicking himself all the way back to Baltimore??

    Rc Heli's

Anyone care to try that with a Bell Ranger???
  21. Assorted notes: I put D404s on my 650. I got them off of it as soon as I could justify spending the money. Hated the ride and the wear rate. My "new" RSTC came with E3s. I'm curious to see how long they last, 2500 miles and counting. My first ME with the local VRO group, my 650 was one of only two bikes that DIDN'T have Venoms on it. As for paying $600 for tires and mounting? Well they do call them "stealerships"!
  22. What does mine want for XMas? Chrome?? I don't know of a piece that the original owner hasn't already put on it! Tires? "New" set of E3's with less than 1k miles [when I bought it] thanks to Terry {po}. What we are looking for?? A CB radio set that won't cost us $500 to put on the bike. The Utopia backrest like the one that Terry kept for his '99 RSV [RATS!] New horn/s. A bike this size shouldn't sound like a VW Beetle! We're thinking carb mods, tranny mods, rear end mods. I'm just not sure what can be done to the original Royal Star bike. But I'm going to have fun finding out!! :mo money:
  23. Definitely quite an outfit. Considering the amount of work involved, the price isn't bad. But in that outfit, the doubletakes could get someone killed. As for chain mail, there are folks who can custom make the stuff. Back in the day, I had friends who were SCA members, the Society for Creative Anachronisms [sp?]. In 1985, one of those friends would go about on his 1200cc GW, in full chainmail, carrying a 6 ft doublehandled broadsword. The bike, aka "The Red Dragon" , was custom painted with a candy apple red base color and and I don't think I have to tell you what else was painted on it. It was quite an attraction all by itself. And with him on it??
  24. Definitely certifiable!! I feel sorry for the rider with the camera. He was really having to work to keep up with the speed freak! From what I could see of the angles, I'd say replacing the pipes on that 800 lb "rocket" is a real possibility.
