  1. The Zumo I'm looking at is a 450, not the 660. Same basic set up as the 660, including the audio out plug that is almost a requirement for me. After the "fun" I had using my old TomTom on the trip home from picking up the TC, I won't go thru that again. I could not see it in the sunlight or hear it thru my helmet. Got completely lost in Memphis trying to find my way to I 55 South. NOT fun! $330 for a used unit with 2013 maps makes more sense than paying $600+ for "big brother". I am keeping an eye out for a 765T on fleabay. I did a Google search for it and all of the bookmarks came up "out of stock" and that included refurbished IF it listed it at all. Also, I'm not a trusting soul when it comes to most sellers on eBay as I've been taken by one or two over the years. IF I don't get a Zumo, I've acquired a First Gear mini tank bag that has a gps mount set up built into it. It will also carry my sat radio as well as the ST1 Rider system [if I end up using it] I bought from fellow VROr Owen. The tank bag also detaches from it's base and converts into a fanny pack so most of my goodies can/will go with me when I'm off the bike. As for the CB, I have no plans to use the lil antenna that most of the handhelds come with. I've used them before [not on a bike] and range is nonexistent with those. My primary concern is the headset. The radio won't do me much good if I can't hear/be heard with it. The 5pin set up would be nice but it is not a requirement. I can always get a 5pin harness/headset later on and mount it in one of my secondary helmets for use on a RSV[hopefully MY RSV ]. I was planning to go to ROT -Republic of Texas bike rally, in Austin next month but work won't allow me the time off to make the trip worth the ticket price. Plans were to find the RAM mount I've been looking for that is set up with two balls so that you can attach two items to one mount, in my case cell phone and cb or gps, along with some other goodies for the TC. All help gratefully appreciated and any advice welcome!!
  2. Oh the "fun" of putting goodies on our bikes!! First Question!! I'm looking at putting a gps on my RSTC. First choice was/is a Garmin 765T. So far all of the retailers I've checked who were carrying this one are no longer. At present, the only ones that seem to be out there are "used" units on "fleabay" from what are not what I'd call established sellers. And the prices on some of them are higher than what the unit sold for new! I have found a listing for a Zumo 450 that sounds like it would fit the bill but I've never noticed anyone on here that has one. Anybody out there with one of these?? Opinions?? Second Question!! Actually it's 2 questions. I'm also looking at adding a cb radio to the bike so I can talk to the group when we are together and for when I'm out on the highway. I had just about decided to bite the bullet and get the JM2003 set up when I found out that those are out of stock until AUGUST!! Seems JM contracted construction of those units out and the plant they came from shut down apparently without warning. OOPS! OK So now I go back to looking at what I had originally planned on getting, one of the handhelds with an adapter so that I can run a license/rear mount antenna on it. Most common choices are either Midland or Cobra. Sierra has set ups for one of the Cobra handhelds, the fun part being that while one comes with a headset that will NOT work with the 5pin unit that is on the RSVs, the other one does work with it but does NOT come with the headset! For the same money!! Q#1 Does anyone have this type of set up on their bike?? Does it work? The headsets are not named as far as manufacturer goes, ditto on the antennas they offer to go with the sets. so I have no idea who makes them. But the prices, $60-65 each on both, does not strike me as being either IMC or JM. Q#2 Just WHERE does someone put anywhere from 9 to 15 ft. of coax on a bike?!?!?! HELP!!
  3. Sending money for TWO!!
  4. I think I can beat that one. A 65 yr old gentleman was told by his better half to take the day and go fishing. He did and has now set a state record [in Ala.] that probably will also be a world record for a striped bass caught in a landlocked lake. Here's what he got to bring home for supper!! The fish is 70 lbs , 45 inches long and breaks the current state record, set in 1959, by 15 lbs.!
  5. I'll settle for buying my first one!! I'm happy with my '96 RSTC for now. But The Plan is to buy myself a trike when I retire in a couple of years. With luck, my small 401k account will cover the cost of a nice RSV and the Hannigan kit for it if I can't find one already done. Otherwise, I'll join the GW outsiders as those trikes are alot easier to find!
  6. I much appreciate this being made available. Anything that gives me more reference material for my 17 yr old TC is GREAT!!
  7. Other interesting goodies at B/J this year included George Barry deciding to finally sell the original BatMobile from the Adam West/Burt Ward series. B/J's went nuts over the car. More people crowded around the car on it's drive to the sale block than I've [or anyone else!] seen taking pics and getting a close up look at what is an unmistakable vehicle. The sale platform was so crowded that the tv crew had to get off of it during the sale. End price was $4.2 MILLION plus 10% buyer's as well as seller's fees. OUCH! The buyer made it very clear afterward that he was going to get the car no matter what. Other vehicles were the "Green Hornet" a one of a kind double concept '67 Shelby Cobra Mustang currently owned by the owner of B/J, Craig Jackson. Bidding broke $2M but I understand it was a "No Sale". Something I haven't seen at B/J's in several years were vehicles with reserve pricing included this and several other cars. GM sold the first production 2014 Vette for charity. That one went for $300k to Nascar team owner Rick Hendrick and that wasn't the only car he gets to haul home! They also sold Clark Gable's "gullwing" Mercedes Benz for $1.85M. It must be nice! I had my usual "lottery winnings" spending dreams. On my "bucket list" is a trip to the Scottdale sale and hopefully I'll also be able to afford the pass into the main sale pavillion which is something like $200. It is not a cheap sale to go to even if you just walk the grounds and see the cars and vendors. One of these years!!
  8. I'd like to have the one for the '96 RS's!! PM me back please!!
  9. I ran across this lil oddity while checking out what was going on the block at this year's Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale sale. It's based on a Piaggio/Vespa 150cc scooter and was done by artist Randy Grubb. Named the "Decopod", the handmade all aluminum shell weighs all of 30 lbs.(!) and it is supposed to be capable of doing 60 mph. I missed seeing it go across the block today but can you believe someone actually paid $25,300 for it??
  10. To Don's better half, Cathy. YOU GO GIRL!!
  11. Neither of my bikes have a helmet lock. I installed the one that mounts on the Kury ISO grips that are on my 650. That worked about a dozen times and hasn't worked since. So I keep a coiled cable lock wrapped around my handlebars, and as I ride either with a full or flip face helmet, the cable gets put thru the visor opening and the helmet sits on the gas tank until I get back. Works for me!!
  12. Also makes you wonder how many bones he's broken learning to do that. There was a stunt rider that had a sport bike show on SpeedTV. He ended up having to have major surgery as the accumulated damage from various injuries was becoming chronic. Definitely NOT fun! I'm also curious as to what size bike that is and what kind of tires he has on it. He's got some serious grip going on the road.
  13. Where he lives that could pose a problem. Snow, ice, and bikes don't mix. Not unless he wants to confirm he's certifiable!!
  14. I had a ball as usual. Also had my usual "fun" time trying to get there as well! End result was coming in at least a couple hours later than planned, also as usual. It was great seeing everyone. Just wish I'd been able to say hi to Zipcode Dave. The food was awesome and it was a toss up as to which was better, Brad's fried turkey or Hal's oil less cooker's turkey. That was also some kinda bbq rig he has and the ribs that came off of it were yummy. Now if I could just figure out a way to move that shop over to my house!! The TC is staying at Brad's as one of the new ss lines for it turned out to have the fittings at the wrong angle. That blows my riding it down to Galveston next weekend for the Lone Star Rally. So it looks like I'll get a fair amount of exercise walking around down there on Friday seeing what kind of goodies I can get for the bike. Oh Fun! I'm planning on seeing what I can do for a M&E/Lunch run up this way after I get it back. BRAD thanks for the help and all the work on the TC!! :You_Rock_Emoticon:
  15. Infrared probably!
  16. Watch OG!! I don't think that Lonna wants him going after any other "Hot Woman" except her!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CUPCAKE!! :You_Rock_Emoticon:
  17. You had better get those coolers back to Don in time. Certain persons will be very upset if there is no ice cream!! If you decide you need the fryer, just let me know and I'll bring it over. With all the stuff for the bike, it's coming on the trailer as there's no way I can haul everything in the saddlebags.
  18. Hey Cupcake! I've got one of those Butterball Deep Fryers that will handle up to a 14 lb bird if I can figure out where the Hubby put it and if you'd like to use it, I can bring it over along with the bike and all the other gear. It takes about 2 gallons of oil and will cook said 14 lb bird in about an hour. Just let me know if you're interested. Looks like there will be enough folks there to make having 2 cookers a good idea. Here's hoping Don gets the BlueBell cooler back in time!!
  19. The dealership screwed up. The cops screwed up or more likely the local DA. But they're not at fault?? A guy who stands up for himself. Who gets arrested for something he did not do. Who has to undergo constant pressure from a dealership who thinks their mistakes shouldn't amount to anything and that a guy who bought his vehicle in good faith and paid cash should have to cough up more money because they couldn't keep their paperwork straight?? Who has people probably questioning his integrity and reputation as he is a RN and this could damage his standing among people in his profession? I'm not the moron here. I remember Bill Heard. He did business in Houston years ago. There was another Chevy dealer down here that made him look good. Landmark Chevrolet, or as one car salesman friend of mine called it "LandSHARK Chev.", were past masters of the bait and switch. The one time we even thought of doing business with them was when the Hubby needed to replace his commute car. Putting 35k on a vehicle a year meant we were doing this every two to three years. When they heard we were going to pay cash, the salesman dropped us like a hot rock and sent us to the most ill lit part of the saleslot where the "cash" cars were. Ever try to look at cars in the dark?? That kind of treatment and we left. The Pontiac dealer down the street had a salesman with us the entire time, the sales mgr. came out to make sure we had what we needed and that we were satisfied with the price on the car we did NOT buy from them. I'm not in favor of multimillion dollar lawsuits either but these guys asked for it and they're going to get it. Any reputable dealership would have asked for the additional funds and when told no, would have given whoever was responsible for the error one heck of a chewing out and written the whole thing off to experience. We do repeat business with dealerships who "do it right", 3 cars from one Chevy dealership, 4 trucks from one Ford dealership, and I'm on my second from one Nissan dealership. Happy customers keep a dealership in business, not greedy buggers who have to have every last nickel. I'd love to see just how much their sales drop from this because I'm betting they will get hit in the pocketbook in more ways than one! :soapbox: I will now get off my soap box!!
  20. Anyone hear about the guy in Virginia who traded in his car on a new Chevy Traverse? He originally bought a black one but brought it back the next day for a blue one. He paid in full, took it home, and left the next day on a cruise. He got home to find a large number of calls on his home and work phones, and mail. When he contacted the dealership, it seems they had made a mistake on his paperwork and the blue Traverse was worth more so they wanted him to come in and sign a new contract for the higher price, $39k instead of $33k. He refused as he had already paid in full for the vehicle at the stated price. Well, the dingbats had him arrested for GTA. He had to bail himself out of jail and walk home [5 miles]. They continued to demand he come in and sign the higher priced contract even after they dropped the charges. The president of the dealership has finally apologized for the situation and offered him the vehicle at the stated price, $33k. His reply: No Thanks. He's suing them for $2.2M for a variety of reasons due to their screw up. MHO? They had better settle now while they can. I can think of a few juries that would be of the opinion that $2.2M is not enough!
  21. :sign yeah that: I'll take ANY RS over that bike!!
  22. I am in definite need of getting some work done on the TC. Our brunch ride made it clear that there will be no road trips until I get the risers and new cables installed. I checked with two stealerships and the estimates ran as high as $450 for that bit of work. OUCH! I've also got the lift adapter specific to my bike now so working on it will be easier than it would have been at the Doodle's. Set a date and I'll be there!!
  23. Any spares??
  24. I repeat the Arte Johnson quote! I find it interesting that I have never heard anything about lowering the 1800 from any of the dealers I've talked to. I hit several of the local H dealers on a regular basis as they have a better accesories shop [helmets, riding gear, etc.] than any of the Y dealers usually do. I almost always end up in a conversation with the salesmen after drooling over the Goldies. Fortunately or unfortunately, after buying my TC, I consider myself set for the next few years providing I or some dodo doesn't mess up and wreck the bike. Unless and of course, if someone just happens to come up with a major steal on a trike . After that, it will depend on what shape I'm in as to whether or not it's trike time. I'll be 60 my next birthday and a trike is not a case of if for me, it's a case of when. I've even thought about triking the TC but outside of a Voyager kit, even if Hannigan's had a set up for it, the bike is 16 yrs old now and not worth the investment. I may even keep it after getting a trike and use it for short trips. I'm also one of the few female riders on this site who does not have a riding husband. But with the Hubby retiring this year [2 wks to go!], who knows, I just might FINALLY talk him into riding again. If that does happen, he won't be the one driving the trike!
  25. This is going sideways but what the heck. I've been a fan of GW's ever since they first came out over 30 years ago. But I can't ride them. I won't ride a bike I can't flatfoot. I'm on the balls of my feet on one if I'm lucky. The "official" seat height may be 29in but with the spread of the floorboards, for me it might as well be 32. And since neither the 1500s or the 1800s can be lowered, all I can do is drool over one in the yellow paint job, my favorite color in GW's. Especially in the $40k+ Champion trike I saw a few years back! But lower a RSV an inch front and rear like Owen's '08, or Gunboat's '99 [both sold now], both of which I've ridden, and I can flatfoot them. I also find it interesting that on my TC, put the Mustang seat it came with on it and I can't flatfoot it but put the "Butlerized" stock seat on it and I can. I am closer to flatfooting with the Mustang seat [maybe a 1/2in] than I am on a stock RSV. And my TC is not a top heavy GW or RSV so I can handle the difference. Now I just have to get the rest of the bike to fit me and not the 6 footer who owned it. And get the Mustang trimmed down in front so I can get my feet down all the way. The trip home on that seat when I bought the bike, some 1400 miles from Illinois to Houston with a lil side trip to Bogaloosa, taught me just why those seats are worth the big bucks. A GW trike is the only way I'll ever be able to ride one. I'm keeping an eye on the Spyder RT's as well. With luck, I might find a RSV trike. I'm beginning to think hen's teeth are more common!
