Ever since the NCAA forced the University of Illinois to drop it's mascot, Chief Illini, I don't give a darn about any of them. I grew up with the Chief. My childhood home is within sight of the UofI stadium and my sister works for the University. Just because it was no longer politically correct to have an Indian as a mascot, they were forced to give "him" up or lose their NCAA funding. Dumb in more ways than one. And now I will get off my highhorse!!

My hair comes down just to my waist so it gets tangled very easily when I ride. One thing I do if I'm in a hurry is pony tail it but I don't pull it all the way thru when I loop it for the last time. That keeps the ends up under my helmet. Also there is a neat lil gizmo called the "Hairdini". Two pieces of spring steel encased in a velour type material. I usually pony tail my hair, pull the pony tail between the two bands [which are are joined at one end by the material], roll it up until it comes to the back of my neck and curl the bands [they will do this on their own]. It effectively puts your hair into a French bun style, no tangles, and your hair will stay neat. I've worn snugged up against my head for work and a little looser for riding. No problem when wearing a helmet. I've even slept with it in my hair. There are some other things out there. You just have to look and see what works for you.

sound/comm system
Brenda H replied to Brenda H's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I should add some other info. For starters, I don't need an intercom system. As things stand now, I'm literally the only rider in the family. My mum thinks I'm nuts for riding at my age. The hubby was a rider back in the day, but unlike me, has never gotten "back in the saddle' so to speak. Considering his opinion of my driving , I doubt he'd ever ride pillon behind me. And until he gets his lazy self in gear and gets his MC license, he won't be riding my bike/s [let him buy his own ]. As for the J&M cb set up, from what I can tell, you almost have to buy that in pieces, the radio/cb, the radio mount, the cable, the antenna, etc. One of the reasons for wanting the RSV was that the only things I'd have to buy for it's system was the headset and connecting cable, which is a heck of alot cheaper than having to buy the whole rig. It's one of the drawbacks to buying anything other than a RSV. But I will keep looking and figuring out what I can afford if and when I do buy that RSTD. Again, all help much appreciated!! -
I'm looking at buying an '05 black/rasberry RSTD. Thanks to the bike not currently being in rideable shape, I'm having to figure on putting some not so few bucks into it to getting it back on the road. But I'm also looking ahead. I'd like to put some kind of system on the bike that will enable me to listen to my tunes as well as communicate with my RSV riding buddies. I will not be mounting speakers on the bike, headset use only. I'm trying to see what options are available and if there are other ways to do this than something like the J&M cb/radio system. I've been looking on eBay and seeing what some of the online suppliers have but not having dealt with this kind of set up before [mp3 and a set of earphones while on the Wee Beastie], I'm not sure what would work best. I have been looking for a RSV but if I can get it at the right price, this RSTD might just end up being something of a steal, even with the extra cash I'll have to put into it over and above the purchase price. As always, all help gratefully appreciated!!

On the '06, how much??
-
I was planning on attending this lil shindig but as I got off work this am with a seriously sore ankle, I figured I'd better spend the day getting off of it. The peach cobbler almost has me getting in the Blue Beastie and coming down for lunch but as I work on my feet, I'd better take care of the darn things. BTW anyone going to take a look at the Roxie for Dave while he's taking care of family?? I'd dearly luv to know just what went south in that engine. See everyone at the Kregerdoodle's next month!!

packers win!! they walked all over pittsburgh in the first half, let pittsburgh walk all over them in the second half but still managed to hold on for the win!!!
-
Half time definitely aimed at the supposed audience at home and not the crowd at the stadium. I can appreciate the technological aspects of that performance but IMHO :thumbdown: And now the Pack is giving the game to Pittsburgh! RATS!!
-
I'm in full agreement. I have bad enough blind spots on the Wee Beastie without making matters worse. I can see mounting speakers to the mirrors but NOT in the middle of them!!

Can I plead the 5th on this one???

AMEN!! Now I'll be seeing that before me all night! As for tea, I regularly raid what I call the "dry goods" section of the HEB Central Markets here in Tx. Coffees, teas, candies, fresh ground nut butters [peanut, almond, & cashew], dried grains, granola, and on and on and on. The place is quite something. They have one of the largest selections of teas I've seen. I'd say over 50 different loose teas kept in sealable jars not to mention an entire counter wall of commercially packaged teas and more brands than you can shake a stick at. I'm a big fan of the Republic of Tea flavors, especially the Ginger Peach which is good both hot and cold. Also a fan of of good old fashioned Constant Comment. I'm not a fan of the green teas. I was very glad to get the 16oz MoeJoe mug from the group as it came with a tea strainer so I can use the loose stuff when I make my traveling drinks. It does make a difference in the flavor.

Interesting. We've had sat radios, both XM and Sirius, almost from the day they first started. Hubby is a 50's/60's R&R buff and just hates having to find a radio station that plays "his" music when we're traveling. So we bought one of the first Audiovox Sirius radios and have been using them almost exclusively ever since. The Sportster 4 in my car is over 3 years old and still going strong as is hubby's old Starmate which is even older. We've not had any problems with the antennas. In fact the one in my car sits on the dashboard and works just fine. I've run both my XM Roady2 and my old Starmate [currently sitting in a boombox in the house] on my old maxi scooter. Ran the power off the bike's 12v outlet, had the radio stashed in a fanny pack hooked around the base of the handlebars with the antenna stuck on the brake resevoir lid. Hooked up a set of your garden variety earplugs and it all worked. As for other options, I have a SanDisk SansaClip 4G MP3 player w/FM radio that also accepts the miniSD chips. It's about the size of an IPod Shuffle and can clip onto just about anything. The interesting thing about this lil toy is SanDisk offers prerecorded chips with a variety of music on them. The one I have is golden oldies of all kinds, country, Motown, R&B, etc. You name it. It's probably on there. I got it from QVC. The price of player + the chip is basically the same as what SanDisk sell the chip for. Not a bad deal. Rechargeable, runs off a mini/standard USB cable. The chip is suppposed to hold 1000 songs and I believe it. I haven't gone thru them all yet!

Be careful what you say. The hubby is a Packer fan. I do not expect to get anything out of him [not even a grunt!] while that game is going on. He needs a win after watching his alma mater [univ. of Wis.] get beat by a bunch of Texas boys. My problem is here I am married to a Packer fan while I'm from Illinois and should be rooting for the Bears! I think I'll plead the 5th on that one!!

I'd settle for Gunboat's new trike, '99 RSV Motor Trike conversion. But the BH '57 Chevy trike is pretty cool. I want to know what idiot came up with the V-8 powered barstools they were selling at ROT a couple years ago. Nothing like an accident looking for a place to happen!

I bought a GMax full face at the Dallas IMS show over a year ago with the light bar across the back. Price at the time was the same as the 3/4 you mentioned. Nice helmet. It's my back up for foul weather riding as my usual lid is a HJC SyMax II.

I've been thinking about getting one of those myself. I'm a "readaholic" . I've got the "Kindle for PC" program downloaded onto both my desktop and laptop and have downloaded a few books so far to the laptop. Quite a few of the free/very cheap Kindle "books" are ones that are out of print or very hard to find, especially in the sci fi genre that is one of my favorites. I can't justify paying $140 for the Kindle itself right now and the PC program is free. BTW the $139 Kindle was listed as a Best Buy by Consumer Reports. I will probably get it when I can pop loose the funds for it. Since it's a Borders version, you might want to see what formats it accepts. There a some e readers that will accept more than one, giving you a wider choice of books and sources for them.

Interesting guys but here's another one for you. Liquid Ivermectin which is used for worming cattle can be bought for around $35-45 for a 50 ml bottle. 10ml is the most common dosage for a 1000 lb cow. That figures out at 1ml per 100 lbs. You can buy 1ml insulin syringes at your local pharmacy and break that down to whatever your dog needs depending on his size. A friend of mine who was a professional breeder took care of her dogs this way. Just squirt it in their mouths or add it to their food once a month. NOTE: Use ONLY the regular liquid Ivermectin, not the Ivermectin Plus which has other meds added to it and can only be used for cattle. Liquid pyrantel pamoate[sp?], aka Liquid Strongid, can be bought at the vet's for around $45 a QUART generic version, higher for the name brand stuff. 30 ml or 1 oz takes care of 500lbs. This has also been used on dogs in the appropriate dose. I use it to worm my horses as all I have to do is mix it in their feed and they never know the difference. Keeps some of my more antsy mares from getting head shy from my trying to stick a tube of the paste form in their mouths. Also the liquid dose ends up costing me about $3 per horse while the equine paste form ["it's for horses!!"] averages around $7!

Hubby brought mine in from the mailbox this afternoon. I appreciate having the tea thingy as I drink as much tea as I do coffee. In fact, first use of the new ones will probably be hot tea. BTW for those of you who have a Keurig coffemaker [i have the B70], I always run a large dose of hot water into my mug, dump it back into the resevoir, and then make my coffee/tea/whatever. Preheating makes the mug work even better and my original 14 oz. set would hold heat for over 4 hours when preheated.

Interesting. My vet has a Tundra , if memory serves it's a crewcab, basically set up as a heavy half/3/4 ton with the 5.7 V-8 in it. She also carries around full time a Vet's bed set up which weighs around 1k lbs on it's own. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is commonly used by large animal vets [we have horses] that carry a large amount of equipment and gear around in it for "house calls" complete with water tanks and it's own power supply depending on which model the vet has. According to her, when she behaves herself driving it, she gets 18 mpg, and when she doesn't behave herself, she gets 15 mpg. She loves that truck and has sung it's praises to the point I may even consider one for when my '01 F150 supercab finally gives up the ghost. As far as Fords, I have been driving F150's for something like 20+ years, starting with a standard cab and going to the supercab version several trucks ago. It is only in my current '01, that I have had any serious problems. It has well over 100K miles with the 5.4 V-8 in it with a full towing set up and averages 15 mpg but will go higher depending on how much city driving I'm NOT doing. Hubby used it for his 90 miles a day commute vehicle for over 6 months and was averaging closer to 18 to 20. But his drive is almost 100% 4 lane federal highway. I have been planning for several years to buy a Ford Superduty. The only problem is that when I last built my "dream" truck on the Ford website, I hit $54K! And if you're asking what would cost that much, the "dream" truck is a F350 crewcab, Powerstroke diesel, 4x4, single axle with a fair number of bells and whistles. And that's not including either the Lariat or King Ranch ed. packages! OUCH!!

I have two pairs of Ariats, a pair of loafers and a pair of roper style western boots. VERY comfortable, no breaking in required. Not cheap but well worth the money. Finding shoes that fit me can be "fun" as I have mismatched feet. Finding something that I can stay on my feet for 8 hours in is even more "fun". But these work for me. I'll have to check these out as I can always use a good pair of work/riding boots. Add on Well I checked them out. Typical MCP attitude that us girls don't need stuff like this. I can wear men's sizes but these don't go small enough. One of these days someone will figure out that us girls need work gear just as much as the guys do!

Things To Do While Waiting For Coffee To Brew...

Who needs to wait that long? I have a Keurig! -
I got curious so I did some looking. Check out http://www.tss-radio.com/ . They have quite a few mounting options for sat radios including ones specifically for bikes.
