  1. TWO WEEKS TO GO!! IT'S HOT HERE! hope it's cooler there!! Time for some FUN!!
  2. RATS!! IF I make it down, I probably won't be able to stay for Sunday. Yours truly is supposed to be back at work on Sunday night and with a 7+ hr drive to get home, I'd be able to stay for breakfast with the gang and then I'd have to head out. Oh Fun!! I'm presently checking into stops for the trip down. If I knew the bike, I could come close to doing this non-stop. But as I'm basically doing it "cold turkey", I'm looking at stopping about 4-5 hours out from Decatur, Il. and then finishing the trip the next day. I'm also looking at doing it on the interstate the entire way which would entail me taking a small detour thru Champaign,Il., my home town. Who knows, I might get one of the cousins to buy me dinner! Kenny, any suggestions for a nice inexpensive motel in B.?? I can't seem to find anything online that isn't at least 25+ miles away with most of them seeming to be in Hattiesburg!
  3. I was out picking up supplies for an injured mare when I came past an accident scene on US 290 just east of Brenham. A HD was down on the inside lane, everything above tank level was gone with the handlebars badly twisted. The tack shop I was headed for is just east of there and folks inside said that the 18 wheeler [oversized rig complete with escort vehicles] that was pulled off the highway had hit the bike. I'm assuming that either the bike was in it's blind spot when it went to do a lane change or the driver just didn't look. The traffic was backed up to who knows where. The hubby, has to come that way from work said it took him over an hour to get to the scene from Chappell Hiill less than 10 miles away. He also said that the scene was still being investigated and is of the belief that the rider did not make it. With the ROT rally going on this weekend in Austin, the bikes are out en masse and more than a few were asking for trouble by riding the shoulders of the highway to get thru the traffic. Not smart to say the least. Prayers out to the rider and his companions. Also hoping that Trinity Hospital's ER is better than the hospital itself is. If that rider is still with us, he will need all the help he can get.
  4. Hungry House?? We stay at the BrisBois motel next door when we're in town. The trip had us playing leapfrog between PdC and Anoka, a suburb of Minneapolis. We were up in PdC the weekend of the 14th, again on the 19th/20th, and again on the 24th and headed home from there. Had dinner at the casino buffet one night but didn't go out on the ole paddlewheeler. I hope to do that next trip.
  5. I'm having a mild case of the screammin meamies today. Thanks to everything that is going on, partly the family business that had us away from home for over two weeks and still having to deal with it to the point the hubby is flying back up there next week. Add work going crazy prepping for inventory which was yesterday [always fun!], I haven't even been able to get the pics I need of the Wee Beastie for my ad on VRO. To help drive me nuts, I have been planning for weeks to attend the ROT [Republic of Texas] Rally in Austin, the largest bike rally in the state, thanks to a change in jobs at work that gave me Fri. & Sat. nites off. ROT is this weekend. Eddie Money is playing tonite, tomorrow will be the Doobie Brothers, and I CAN'T GO! Thanks to that family business trip as well as the one I'm making the last week of this month partly to help out the Mum and partly to pick up my new wheels, I'm having to pinch the pennies. But I thought I could just swing the $45 ticket price for the ROT. Well the greedy so and sos raised it to $60 and they don't have nor are interested in having day passes. Bummer! To really top it off, I had to spend part of this morning after I got off work to run errands and pick up supplies for an injured mare I have. The bikers are going thru town on the way to Austin in an almost continous stream, not so few of them loud enough that I could hear them inside some of the buildings I was in. I'm also sitting here in my house listening to them go by as I live like one property line off 290 and I CAN'T GO! This is worse than it was while I was up in the hubby's home town of Prairie du Chien, Wis. last month, in some of the most beautiful bike riding country there is in the middle of what I could have sworn was a Goldwing convention as that was about all I saw the first day I was up there. I even threatened to steal a couple just so I could take a ride up along the Mississippi river. GRRRRRR!!
  6. This could get interesting. I'll be up in Illinois the week before this picking up the "new" Beastie and WAS planning on heading home on the 1st. Seems like I could make one heck of a detour and join the party on my new wheels. Certainly wouldn't hurt to get it checked out by all and sundry not to mention getting to ride back home with the Houston crowd. Address for my GPS would be much appreciated so I can figure out if this will work or not. I'll definitely have to change my currently planned route home not to mention possibly leave the Mum's a day or so earlier but we will see what can be done!!
  7. I ride MOTGATT or ATGATT at all times. I've seen too many of my friends being stupid [just MHO] and getting hurt. I laid my last bike down while on a cross country trip up in Mo. I put a 3 in. wide diagonal scratch across the faceshield and front of my helmet and completely destroyed the rain gear I was wearing. Only injury I had was a bruised hand from hitting the base of the mirror. If I'd been wearing armored instead of plain leather gloves, I quite often doubt I would have been hurt at all in that case. By the way, the salesman who sold me my 650 tried to talk me into a half helmet until I showed him the full face I had been wearing when I went down. After seeing that, he stopped trying!
  8. Boomer Around you, trouble starts all by itself!! Wish I was up there as well, I could get my future new wheels checked out from nose to tail!!
  9. :sign yeah that:
  10. HERE'S HOPING YOU HAVE A FUN DAY!!
  11. To all the RSTC riders out there! There has been a couple threads on this forum recently regarding patches for the RSTD's. Well, I've been putting in a few words for the RSTC owers out there as I'm about to become one, owner of a RSTC that is! End result is that Golf&Venture is willing to do up designs for the RSTCs. So far I'm the only one on the thread that "has" a RSTC so I'm the only one asking for a Tour Classic patch. Anyone else interested There are two designs, the STAR patch with ROYAL STAR on top, the Yamaha star in the middle, and for our bikes TOUR CLASSIC underneath. The M/C patch would be basically the same but with a TC between the RS and TC. You can see mock-ups of the RSTD M/C patch and STAR patches on the other thread. We can get the colors we want for the lettering and can also decide on which colors we want for the bike on the M/C patch. Also 4 sizes can be available, basically the same as the Venture patches that are currently being ordered and distributed on the site. ANY TAKERS???? The thread you'll find the mock-ups on is "RSTD possible patch design" . Just join the other thread and let G&V know there's more of us out there that want these!!
  12. GV On the STAR patch, possibly a darker shade of blue rather than the red. As for RSTD patch, as I've said befor, RSTC are bi-colored in a design different from the RSTDs. If we could match that up to "my" bike, I'd love it! And when it comes to my being the only RSTC request, with this thread having RSTD in the title line, some of the RSTC owners out there may not be aware that they could get a bike specific patch for their RSTCs. I will post a thread about this and see if anyone else is interested. From what I know of special orders, "one ofs" can get expensive!
  13. Any posibility of getting at least a STAR patch/es that reads Tour Classic instead of TD???
  14. If that looks like the RSTC I'm in the process of buying, I'll eat my hat!! RSTD's are either solid colored or have the semi horizontal split. RSTC's, at least the ones I've seen, have the "wrap around" color. I do get your point on price tho. The more versions, the more it will cost. My thought is 3 designs, one solid colored RSTD, one 2 tone RSTD, and one with the color pattern of the RSTC's. I don't particularly care if the colors match my bike [it would be nice!] but that way everyone could have the color pattern of their particular version.
  15. Since the RSTCs are painted differently than the RSTDs, would that be a problem. The layout would stay the same, just the coloring of the bike would be different. If that could be accomodated, I'd buy a full set! Or 3!! As for which word??
  16. Any possibility of getting some made for us present and future Classic owners?? Same design, just change one word!
  17. They were still there when I went into work Tues. nite. Worked way late Weds. morning and the rigs were there but the bikes were gone. Thought they had probably gone for breakfast so I ran some errands and stopped back by on my way out of town. I was sitting in my car fixing to leave a note on something when the motorcoach came around the front of Ken's semi rig with Thom in the front passenger seat. Went on home after that and eveything was gone when I went into work last nite. Hope they're having fun at New Braunfels!! Kreg I know what you mean about the Sommerville rally. I've lived in this area for over 20 years and I have never gone to the darn thing. It is and has always been a 3 day excuse for a drunken party.
  18. WELL IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! :clap2::clap2:
  19. I got off work yesterday morning at our local Wally World to find a rather familiar rig sitting at the far end of the parking lot. Ken's "Trick-Lights" rig was sitting there along with 2 motor coaches, 3 bikes, and a car [and who knows what else!]. Didn't take long for me to spot a certain white 1st gen so I figured Thom had to be along as well. Since I had no idea as to when they had pulled in, I headed for home without disturbing them. I sent Thom a PM to let him know they'd been spotted and to say HI! to Ken for me. When I went to work last night, the whole gang was still there. So when I got off work this morning, I pulled over by Thom's bike to see if anyone was going to be up and around anytime soon. Ken came out to take his dog for it's morning walk. I ended up getting invited in for morning coffee and found out why they had been parked there for two days. They were on their way back from the rally at Somerville. The lovely 60 mph wind gusts we'd had over the weekend had taken the awning off Ken's rig and they were waiting for parts to replace it as they were also on their way to the rally at New Braunfels. Oh Fun! Thom says HI!! to everyone and to let folks know that his cell phone went out on him over the weekend so he's been unable to read his "mail" and to add his 2 cents worth to things. He also almost froze his tootsies off as we had something like 40* weather around here last night! It got cold! For May at least. Parts for the awning are due in today. They have to get it rebuilt and rerigged today as they have to head out for New Braufels tonite. Another Oh Fun! I may make a run into town later on to make sure they got back on the road ok. That is not a small awning!
  20. I'm open to any suggestions for a different starting point. The Shell station on 362/290 near Kreg's is always an option. I'd just have to figure a route from there to get to the areas I have in mind. If nothing else, G.C. can end up being our lunch point instead of breakfast. Or we can have another go at the Diner [earplugs!]. I'd also like to know if the group would be interested in doing some twisties or would prefer to stay with the scenic stuff. The route I have in mind up here is about half and half [so far as I know that is]. I've not been on part of it [the twisties] at all and the part I have been on I was in my car at the time. This is why I want to ride it first, to make sure the road is good enough for our bikes and wide enough for the group to travel on as parts of it are county roads, not FM's or state/fed. highways. I am going to do some checking out of other options in the same area and see what I can put together. All help gratefully appreciated!!
  21. There has been a semi-recurring thread "talking" about a "Pass it on" monthly ride. Hal's ride took care of April and I have been looking at putting one together for May. I've had ideas for a run up here around where I live but the work schedule and stuff going on at home have kept me from checking out the route I have in mind, most of which I've never been on. Thanks to my work "anniversary" being next month, I have and am currently using a week's vacation that I had and must use or lose before that date. The plan was to spend a day on the Wee Beastie checking out the route and travel time. I was planning on breakfast for the group at the Golden Corral in College Station and going KU from there with lunch somewhere in/around Brenham. Only one problem. I got a phone call at work from my Mum. Since the company won't release personal info over the phone, I found a tiny note to me stuck to the time clock [i work graveyard shift]. End result was a mild case of panic wondering what had gone wrong at home?? Seems she forgot she was to call me only on my cell and was trying to reach me on the home land line which we no longer have. The result of MY call to her was three days of massive housecleaning and my picking her up at the train station in Austin on Friday. End result is she is now sitting about 6 ft from me watching my telly and I'm hoping for at least one day where we can cage it and check out the route as I will not ride 2up on the Beastie. Oh Fun!! I'll post any results from that lil trip and we'll start figuring out which weekend works best for the group! Any suggestions?!?!
  22. Looks like I'm the first one home! It was an absolutely fun day. I'm now 10 yrs older than I started the day out being because of what we think was a blast of crosswind caught me and the Wee Beastie coming around a turn and caused the bike to start to go down. I had a choice of letting it go down on the blacktop and gravel or going into the ditch. I chose the ditch. Somehow I managed to keep the Beastie upright and got it back under control and out of the ditch. I still can't believe I pulled that one off! The day was also marked by a few wrong turnings and missed turn offs but I certainly had a good time. The weather and countryside was absolutely gorgeous even though the bluebonnets are few and far between this year thanks to the drought conditions we are in. It got hot! As for the food, the Hullaballoo Diner is everything it's supposed to be. Some of the crew opted for breakfast and got pancakes the size of the plate! We ended up sitting on the outside deck listening to a great guitarist/singer [who needs to turn his amp down!]. My only complaint was an 18% "gratuity" tacked onto a ticket when the only service I received was them delivering my food and the bill! I broke off at my home base of Brenham on the way back while the rest of the crew were headed for the DQ in Belleville and some ice cream. Hope everyone got back safe!!
  23. There are times when I wonder if some of the men I know are the same age from the neck up as they are from the neck down. Then I read this nonsense. . . . . . .
  24. If I'm not in line at the demo truck at Tejas Yamaha, I'll be there!! I'm going down on Fri to see what rides I can get [inc. a RSV] and will hopefully get all of that covered on that day. As Mollie wants to sight see, I wonder if I could hitch a ride so I can too!
