  1. My '96 had a Utopia backrest on it when I bought it [see pic]. Unfortunately for me, the PO had bought a RSV and transferred the backrest to it. I picked up a used one from a fellow VRO'er not long ago and will be mounting it on the bike first chance I get.
  2. Cougar Mine are set up so that I can cut off one or both of the mikes each hearing aid has. Sitting in the Sam's Club where I got them, turning off the rear mikes made alot of difference in the background noise level I was dealing with. Sam's Clubs are NOT a quiet place. I had no idea just how much of the noise I was missing until I put the aids on the first time. You might want to check and see if the Costco's are programmable as mine are and see if that helps.
  3. Just a quick note. The sale price is good at company stores. If the store is a NAPA affiliate store, like the one here in Brenham, they do not have to honor the company's sale price. I found that out the last time they had it on sale.
  4. I've done demo rides on the RT's twice now. I cannot ride the RS's as their seating position puts pressure on my hands and sets off my carpal. Definitely NOT fun trying to ride something you can't hold onto. Last demo ride I did both the RT and the new ST. The problem I have with them is the lateral movement [side to side] as it feels like the seat is kinda rocking sideways. The RTs have adjustable suspension [at least the one I was on did!] and you may be able to tune that out. Outside of that, I like them. I'm waiting for the opportunity to try the '14 model RT which has a 1300cc engine and a 6 sp tranny while the ST and the RS will keep the 1000cc Rotax engine/5sp they have always had. And as for the $12-13k [or less] price tags you see on used ones? Those are the RS models, NOT the RT's! The RS seating position is basically the same as a sport bike which is why I think alot of them end up being sold as most people are not into that style of riding. It is also why I think Can Am came up with the ST which has a seating postion much closer to that of the RT so it is more along the lines of a sport tourer than the RS's seating position. I know I do not have the same problems with the seating position on the ST that I have on the RS. Personally, I'd rather have a RSV trike than the Spyder. It would be far easier to work on than that rolling collection of techno. But it's a case of wait and see. Whether or not the new model of the Spyder would be worth waiting for to find one used [i'm figuring 4 yrs or so for that] or really blow the bank account and buy a new one. I'm also figuring on giving CanAm at least 2 years in any case on the new version so that they have a chance to get all the bugs worked out. Now if I could just figure out a way to buy B2Dad's trike!
  5. I just acquired my first pair ever of over the ear style hearing aids just a couple weeks ago. I took my Mum into a Sam's Club that has the hearing aid lab built into it. While she was getting fitted for hers, I decided to get my hearing checked and found out I was almost as deaf as she was, probably from too many years of plant work plus a lovely case of tinnitus. I have mine set up with 4 different programs, full on [both mikes active {each one has 2}], front off, back off, and BOTH off. The last one is called Telecoil and will tie into a theatre system if it is set up for it. It is also what the audiologist recommended for use while I was riding the bike. The speaker wires are equipped with little cups on them so they effectively block outside sound. End result I'm effectively wearing earplugs while riding and can reactivate the regular program once I'm off the bike. Something else. My mother's last pair of hearing aids cost her $8K. At Sam's Club, BOTH her set AND mine with added loss and warranty coverage for 2 years on both sets came to less that $5500!! I'm having all kinds of "FUN" hearing things I didn't even know I was missing! Not all Sams Club have the audio lab yet but they are working on getting them in all of the stores. Ours were done at the Springfield, Illinois store and the guy there, MIKE!, is great and will help you just about any way he can.
  6. Well, somebody bought it. Final sale price was $9601.01 would you believe! I'll keep looking. I am curious as to what has happened to Gunboat's '99 but Cathy appears to have dropped off the grid. I'd love to have B2's '08 as that is my favorite year/color of RSV but that much money is out of the question at the moment. The Hubby would have a fit! Please Everybody keep an eye out!!
  7. I'm having second thoughts about it. Current bid is $5650 which isn't much from what the group says. But I'm still concerned about the trike mod itself. 42k miles is less than 3k a year on that bike. No info on when the mod was done and since this guy is a "freelance" dealer, ie no set business as he appears to be just trading or selling whatever he comes across. Add in the fact that I have no known trike dealer within a minimum of at least 50+ miles so getting repairs done could be time consuming as well as expensive. My concern is the lack of miles being due to problems with the trike kit. I want one. Current plans are for me to buy a trike when I retire, probably in two years when I finally qualify for SSI. But if I run across something like this again, who knows? I may just have a few words with my loan officer or do a rather nice job of maxing out a credit card!!
  8. What did I do? Wake everyone up to the fact it was out there? RATS!! IF it's a TriWing, I'm not interested. Hannigan/Motor Trike have a much better chance of having been installed by someone who at least halfway knew what they were doing. And with the bid having jumped $4k in one day, the odds of it even being close to what I could swing isn't good. BM good luck on getting it!!
  9. There is a '99, looks like a Hannigan trike with 42k miles on it, on eBay. Interesting thing is it is selling "no reserve" and I'm wondering if I should take a shot at it. BIG problem is the seller has less than 400 feedbacks and less than 60 of those in the last year. I'm VERY wary to say the least as I doubt anyone in that area [Hixson, Tenn. just outside Chattanooga] would have a chance to look at it before the sale ends on 10/2. I'm not risking my hard earned dollars on something I won't be able to see before I spend that kind of money. Does anyone know or has done business with this seller "toddstoys35"? Interesting to note that one of the pics shows dealer tags on the bike which makes me wonder just what this guy does for a day job. The bike itself looks to be in great shape and for a '99 to have only 42k on it means somebody just drove it to church on Sunday! Any ideas??
  10. :sign yeah that: I'm in the same boat. Broke a bone in my foot mid August and haven't been able to get on the TC since then. Had to do the Gunboat memorial run in my Frontier which was ok but not the fun it would have been on the TC. Hope I can find all the goodies I haven't put on the bike yet. I'm currently up in Illinois giving the Mum a hand. The trip up here and my driving around town is driving me nuts! It is perfect bike weather up here, mid 70's, partly cloudy, little to no rain [at least around here]. Seeing all the bikes on the trip up and running around town [anybody on a black RSV in Decatur Ill. today?] has me pounding the steering wheel in frustration! I wanna ride!! Hey Walter, if you come, Can I try out the "trike" set up you've got on your bike?? It just might make me decide to put a kit on the TC instead of my buying a full out trike.
  11. GO FREEBIRD!! :You_Rock_Emoticon:
  12. Annie and Allan I greatly enjoyed meeting the pair of you. I just wish we had more time together. I have just one question - When are you coming back?? PS The Mum sends GREETINGS!! and maybe she can hitch a ride next time!!
  13. Thank goodness you two are ok. Some dummies just don't see ANYTHING alongside them or they expect whatever is there to get out of their way. How we are supposed to do that when there is no room to go anywhere [safely that is] is always the question. I'm always getting strange looks from people who wonder why I ride either MOTGATT or ATTGATT at all times even down here in the heat of south Texas. You two are thankfully living & breathing examples of just why I do so. AS for finding a replacement, I've no doubt that the gang on here will find whatever you want to replace that lovely rig.
  14. Either or both your neighbor and that salesman need their respective heads examined. I'd say both. I don't know any salesman worth his salt that would let a complete newbie buy what is arguably the most dangerous production sport bike on the planet. "Accident waiting for a place to happen" is right. I can admire any one with the guts to get on a Busa, but when they don't know one end of a bike from the other, I consider them as "certifiable" and this guy certainly is!! I remember a comment "our" Owen made when I asked him what he had done with his VMax, probably the nearest thing to a Busa Yamaha has. His reply was that he had sold it as he could feel his IQ drop by 10 points every time he got on it!! Hopefully this guy will wake up to just how dumb he is before he ends up dead or worse thanks to that bike.
  15. If the Company [WalMart] has store inventory on the same date as this year [8/1], I won't be able to make it. No vacation time allowed in the month before that insanity. [And if it turns out as bad as this year's did, we may all be out of a job!] It sounds interesting, not quite as much stuff to do as Galena so far, but it is a case of wait and see what the committee members come up with. Start looking!!
  16. Did some checking. Nearest KOA is at Oxford on I-20!! Not close unless you consider 75 miles to be "just around the corner". A "Good Sam" affiliated campground is at Woodville, about 20 miles north of Guntersville. No listing on what they rent their cabins for on the site. Guntersville State Park has "cabins" but they sound more like the bunkhouses at Galena and are set up for 1-6 people w/ 2 bedrooms and are listed at a higher price than the rooms at the lodge. I'll keep looking!!
  17. :sign yeah that: Ditto!! He was one of the members of the group that I met at my very first MD.
  18. RATS! I had to miss this! Something came up at the last minute and I had to cancel. Got "grounded" to homebase waiting on someone to show up who in the end didn't make it!! [long story] Hope everyone had a good time remembering Don. It sounds like I'll be kicking myself for awhile for not being there. It would have been nice to see everyone as it sounds like quite a turnout. Hopefully I will be able to turn out for the memorial ride. I'd better be as it is on my home turf! Got a few ideas for local munchies either before or after the trip to BlueBell.
  19. MONEY SENT!! Somebody will have to come up with a different hitch and harness for this thing since I don't own a RSV!! Just wish I could come to the darn Rally!!
  20. Well, I AM going to make this, just not on the bike. ABC Houston has the predicted temp for tomorrow at 100* which would put the heat index in the 110*'s probably. End result is I'll be caging it. I won't ride a bike when it's that hot. If I was dumb enough to ride without gear, I could probably do it but I'm not that crazy. I'll see you all tomorrow!
  21. RATS! RATS! RATS! RATS! :bang head::bang head: Another reason why I'm pissed over not being able to come to Galena!!
  22. As things stand now, I'll have to say ME TOO!! It's partly due to the store [i work for WalMart] scheduling inventory as the same time as the Rally and partly my spending most of the last two months fighting with my bosses over my schedule [long story]. It got to the point I gave them 2 weeks notice if they didn't get my schedule straightened out. Fortunately or unfortunately, they did. RATS!! I was so looking forward to meeting everyone here on the site and the Mum [who was coming with us] was looking forward to riding on Annie's trike. Thanks again for the offer Annie! The situation could change, especially if they "forget" what my schedule is supposed to be [no surprise if they do!] but I have to go on as thought they won't. If memory serves [it's been awhile since I did the reservation!] we have a 2 bed room reserved for 7/28 thru 8/1. I will hold the reservation for another 2 weeks, after which I will cancel it. Just let me know if anyone wants it.
  23. I'm in shock! Caught a post on Facebook about Don and came straight to the site to check. I was planning on seeing him at Galena this year as the Houston crowd didn't have anything planned before then. He has been a good friend to me ever since I joined the Houston group going on something like 4 years now. He will be sorely missed by us all.
  24. I've had the wild and crazy thought about doing one of these myself. From where I live, if I go thru OKC, it is just over 1k miles from my house to the Mum's. OKC is almost exactly halfway so I could take a break and visit the Auntie [my Dad's lil sister] on the way. I would never have thought of doing this on my 650. Considering the way that bike rides, I wouldn't be able to walk by the end of the trip, IF I made it that far. The TC is a very different matter. I rode it home [approx. 1400 mi w/detour to La.] after I bought it and could still walk when I got here. Now that it is set up for me and not it's 6 ft+ PO, it should be even easier. The only question is do I use the "Butlerized" stock seat or the Mustang that came with it? I rode it home using the Mustang even though I can't quite flatfoot it with that seat on it. And I've been using the stock seat on it ever since. OH FUN!!
  25. Here's what I ended up doing/getting. CB RADIO Cobra Road Trip "Superpack" - the Cobra HH38WXST handheld that comes with both a magnetic mount antenna and the lil "rubber ducky" antenna. The "superpack" part of the deal includes a telescopic antenna and a mic/speaker handset among other things. I'll see how it does with the selection of antenna that come with it before I pop for one of the "standard" antennas. GPS Picked up a manf. refurb. 765t off "fleabay". Reasonably priced at a little less than what other units from same vendor were going for in other auctions. Not sure what generation maps are on it[dumb I know] but at least I can get the sd card for the most current ones[2014!] and update it. NEXT! To get the RAM mounts for the darn things. The GPS will be spending most of it's traveling time in the tank bag I've bought but I'm still planning on the RAM mount as well for times when I don't want the tank bag on the bike. Does anyone have the double ball RAM mount that clamps to the handlebars?? This will enable me to have a mount for both a cup holder and/or the gps as well as the cb without having to take up the space that would be occupied by 2 different mounts. TC's aren't exactly known for having lots of available space around the bars!
