1. so i have an 07 RSTD. haven't has any problems until yesterday. left for work, rode about 5 miles to the interstate, another 18 miles on the interstate (in fairly decent rain) got off the interstate and the oil and temp light started flashing, the speedometer looked like when you first turn the bike on, and it bogged down very badly, made it about another 3/4 mile, and it just dies. no power to anything. eventually got to work after it dying one more time. spent the night at work, got up the next morning, it started just fine, made it about 1/4 mile, and it did it again, flashing oil and temp light, and it bogged down and died. only dies once before i got on the interstate, rode 18 miles on the interstate no problem, and when i got off, it happened again, only much work. it took about 45 minutes to be able to go 5 miles. it would bog down and die, then wouldnt turn on at all for about 2-3 minutes. this kept happening until i eventually got home. any help would be greatly appreciated. the only thing thats changed recently is i put a new battery in it. the screws for the connections were a little too long, making it a poor connection with the battery, would this cause something like that to happen? thank you for any help.
2. ok, i went ahead and bought it, and i have to say so far i'm pretty impressed. all the holes lined up, the only issue was that the stereo cutout was off center, but i had to make it slightly bigger anyway to fit the stereo i bough, so it worked out just fine. mounting was easy, and i've had it at 80 mph so far with no issues. just need to get it painted. i'm waiting on that because i'm going to have the ehole bike done. the whole reason i was able to get it was because a friend hit (and destroyed) my right saddlebag while riding the Blue Ridge Parkway. his insurance gave me some $$$ for a new one... so i went ahead and bought a new saddlebag on ebay instead of going through a dealer... then i bought the fairing... and a venture gas tank... and speakers... and a stereo... the remaining $1000 will go towards painting... thanks for the feedback!
3. Has anyone bought one of these and are they worth it? Thanks! http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=191494873983
4. show chrome accessories P/N: 61-112A yamaha P/N: STR-4XY14-10-00 or str4nk141000 either one should work, show chrome is going to be cheaper. Have you tried Naval Jelly to get the rust off?
5. much apologies! here's the soon to be new baby. and yes, your advice was extremely helpful!
6. yes, i was VERY fortunate. fortunate i didn't get hit by a car, didn't break anything, didn't need surgery, that my rogue-unmanned-800 lb sliding rocket didn't hit anyone else. Also fortunate for that retired Marine in the car behind be was there to help out. thank you guys for all the support as well. the only pain i have left is in my shoulder (torn AC joint) and some tenderness in my side. other than that i'm almost back to normal. i think the shoulder might take some time though. As far as the tire, i don't know what brand it was to be honest. i do know i checked it the day before (as well as pressure) and it wasn't bad. not nearly bad enough to raise concern. i think i hit something just right honestly, but i don't think i'll ever know for sure. I did take some things off the bike, which i let the insurance guy know about. he said it was fine, and didn't effect the claim. a decent amount was damaged in the crash, more than i originally thought after i had a second look at it. Arrangements have been made for the 07. i pick it up on monday. unfortunately i don't know when my shoulder will let me ride, but i can tell you one thing, by the time i can, that's gonna be the cleanest RSTD around!
7. ok, they came with an offer. a low offer. then i submitted every add on with price and part number. today that came back with their new offer. lets say doing your homework and finding all those numbers paid off. literally. the estimate went up significantly. enough for me to buy an 07 RSTD and have 1500 left over. unfortunatly i doubt my shoulder will be healed from the wreck until well after i pick up the 07... Monday. regardless i am one happy camper.
8. hopefully i'll get at least 5300 for it. i don't know if it's a long shot or not, but i have my eye on an 05 venture...
9. i have, but i cant find a clear answer. thanks though!
10. it was my first time wrecking. definitely scary. i'm just glad the bike didn't cause anyone else to get in to an accident
11. so there i was. riding home from the Tail of the Dragon. about a 515 mile ride home. around 1300 miles in three days. 10 miles from home my back tires blows. needless to say i went down at about 65 mph on the interstate. Apparently this wasn't too fast for my guardian angel as i didn't break anything, don't need surgery (as of now) and didn't have all that much road rash. pretty much as lucky as i could be. Now i had a '96 Royal Star with about every Yamaha add-on you could buy, aftermarket exhaust, grips, handlebars. this morning the insurance guy told me it was totaled. can anyone tell me about how much i should be getting for this claim? any help would be greatly appreciated. i won't find out until mMonday or Tuesday what they come up with, but in between now and then i'll need to know what price range i can look for a new bike in! thanks a bunch.
12. Good to go! ok, so i drained out the gas, poured in some seafoam, started it up... and got the same results. tried another start... same results... tried one more time... BINGO! accelerated right away, and is running nicely now. carbs definitely need some tuning, which is fine, but at least it's ride-able. for the time being the popping is kind of cool, but i'm kind of already sick of it. regardless. i was able to get it to a dealership to get the state safety inspection, and make her legal. now i just have to figure out what to do with the 5 gallon bucket of ****ty gasoline in my driveway that i forgot about until i started writing this post.
13. thanks guys, yeah, i'm hoping it sitting today will help break up the gunk. when i say "some" seafoam, i meant a can and a half... tomorrow ehn i get home i'll empty the tank and fill it with fresh gas. someone here told me that if the gas sits for more than 2 weeks or so the ethenol will seperate? not sure how accurate, but he's generally too smart for his own good... regardless, like i said i don't know how long it sat before it was delivered. thanks for the input, i'll keep you posted on what happens tomorrow. i only got about 9 miles in yesterday, whish is the most in about a year and a half sine i had my road star... i have to scratch this itch!!!
14. ok, so i bought a 96 royal star about a month and a half ago, while i was deployed. i got back this weekend, and went to take it for a test ride.... and didn't have too good of luck. the bike has 29K miles on it, and has been sitting the month and a half i've had it, and i don't know how long before that. it will start up just fine, and idle fine, with the exception of some occasional popping. i went to take it for a ride, and as soon as i put it in gear i can hear the RPM's drop signifigantly and when i give it some gas, it will bog down and die. this happened a few times, then it eventually got going, though it didn't sound or feel healthy by any means. it just wouldn't want to go anywhere. once i got to a stop sign it would start happening again. when the bike was delivered, my wife took a video of it being started up and revved, and it was fine. i'm hoping the gas just went bad??? i know they put a fuel stabilizer in it when the dropped it off, but i don't know which one. i put some seafoam in it yesterday in an attempt to shock treat it, and whille try again tomorrow. i'll also drain the gas and replace it with fresh gas/seafoam. i've checked the plugs and wires, and i did find that one of the wires wasn't connected, and the plugs seem clean. they're NGK iridiums. any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i know i need to look at the carbs, but i didn't have time yesterday... well i did but it was also 15 degrees, and wasn't prepared for that kind of bitter cold after being in the gulf for 6 months. once again, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
