  1. I'm having a mild case of the screammin meamies today. Thanks to everything that is going on, partly the family business that had us away from home for over two weeks and still having to deal with it to the point the hubby is flying back up there next week. Add work going crazy prepping for inventory which was yesterday [always fun!], I haven't even been able to get the pics I need of the Wee Beastie for my ad on VRO. To help drive me nuts, I have been planning for weeks to attend the ROT [Republic of Texas] Rally in Austin, the largest bike rally in the state, thanks to a change in jobs at work that gave me Fri. & Sat. nites off. ROT is this weekend. Eddie Money is playing tonite, tomorrow will be the Doobie Brothers, and I CAN'T GO! Thanks to that family business trip as well as the one I'm making the last week of this month partly to help out the Mum and partly to pick up my new wheels, I'm having to pinch the pennies. But I thought I could just swing the $45 ticket price for the ROT. Well the greedy so and sos raised it to $60 and they don't have nor are interested in having day passes. Bummer! To really top it off, I had to spend part of this morning after I got off work to run errands and pick up supplies for an injured mare I have. The bikers are going thru town on the way to Austin in an almost continous stream, not so few of them loud enough that I could hear them inside some of the buildings I was in. I'm also sitting here in my house listening to them go by as I live like one property line off 290 and I CAN'T GO! This is worse than it was while I was up in the hubby's home town of Prairie du Chien, Wis. last month, in some of the most beautiful bike riding country there is in the middle of what I could have sworn was a Goldwing convention as that was about all I saw the first day I was up there. I even threatened to steal a couple just so I could take a ride up along the Mississippi river. GRRRRRR!!

  3. Being basically a motorcycle forum, I bet you thought Orange County Chopper by the OCC in the thread title. That's not really the case. I did manage to land a temporary gig for a few weeks during the Christmas season for a program called OCC. I am not however, working for the dastardly Paul Tuetal Sr. infamous abuser (of Paulie Jr. and Mickey) on the Orange County Chopper motorcycle build reality show. Instead, the OCC I'm talking about is a program called Operation Christmas Child. This OCC is part of the Billy and Franklin Graham outreach ministry Samaritan's Purse. This OCC is about collecting shoe boxes of toys (this year 8 million plus) to send to impoverished children in India, Pakistan and the Ukraine along with a message about " The Greatest Gift of all JESUS." I do have to admit that in the past few years, for various reasons, I have been more of a Christmas Grinch or Scrooge :Im not listening tothan a Santa or merry Christmas Elf. Partly because of the fact that my birthday is at Christmas and each Christmas season is a reminder of my rapidly aging condition and impending mortality. :backinmyday:And partly because my children are now grown and the magic of Christmas in my children's eyes has been replaced with the realistic distant stare of fear:scared: of having to worry about the cost and hectic pace of providing Christmas. Truth be told, not that I'm proud of it, Christmas, (for me in recent years) has been more of a bothersome burden than a seasonal blessing. My small role in this program consist of organizing teams of volunteers into a assembly line processing machine where these shoe boxes are received, sifted, inspected, sealed, sorted, packaged, packed, loaded and shipped out heading for their final destination to a distant country into the arms of a child. My initial assessment of the process seemed more like an exercise in organizing Chaos. But, to my surprise, as the assignment has been developing what I am seeing is an accumulation of small miracles happening on a shoe box to box basis. Miracles that are humbling and reminding me how small I am in the scheme of things and how great God's love is to make all of the necessary things, people and energy come together to make all of this possible. During the hectic pace of this assignment I have been uncharacteristically catching myself singing Christmas carols. I have the day off tomorrow, I might even put up a few strings of Christmas lights and decorations up around the place.
  4. I am trying to put together a Ride-Meet-Eat for the 12th of September 2009. Destination will be Leavenworth, the Bavarian Village. As usual this will be weather dependent, not that we mind riding in the rain, but Seattle cagers seem to aim for us when they have to use windshield wipers! The current forecast indicates partly cloudy and high 70's to high 80's on the east side of the mountains...but this is the PNW and it could change by Wednesday. I am open for suggestions on a meeting place/time/fuel stop/and food destination. Just add to this thread and we will see what happens. Larry AKA: Silverdeer
  5. Just an update on the continuing saga of replacing the broken trunk bottom on my ride. I was able to secure a matching bottom from e-bay (with the help of FreezyRider). It was listed for $400.00, I offered $100.00 and purchased for $200.00. Ordered the kit for the new bottom which is just a metal plate for the top and a rubber one for the bottom. I JB Welded the metal plates to the inside and went about removing the old trunk. Lesson # 1, remove all screws and bolts that you can see first. We ended up taking the speakers apart becasuse we did not realize the screws holding the brackes for the inside net pocket also held the trunk to the backrest. I must say I am very disapointed in the quality (or lack therof) for the plates welded to the frame that the anchor screws going through the bottom to hold the trunk to the frame. It's not metal and not plastic but breaks like plastic and we had to cut off the right side plate and are trying to frabricate something to replace it with. This is for sure a two person job, just getting the hinges from the top fastened to the bottom ( you have to have the lid partly closed to get it to aline but partly open to line up the screws coming from the outside). Will keep you informed as to progress. Just want to say I would not have known where to start without all the great help from this web site, you guys are the best support group since Woddy Allen in Everything You Wanted to Know about Sex but were Afraid to Ask (for all us old timers who remember the movie)!!!!
