6 and 8 speed tranny in performance cars keeps the rpm up, close ratio so the engine does not drop alot of revs at the shift. Overdrive is eng rpm to the drive shaft rpm, in drive the eng crankshaft and the drive shaft are one to one, overdrive has the driveshaft turning a precentage faster than the crank shaft. anywhere from 5% to 30% and the differential is geared for the performance fro the given application. Such as the V-max has a lower gear ratio in the rear end than the RSV. PS all the harley's I ride with, I beat them by about 6 tenths of a gallon on every tank. None of them can match the RSV's range. They always stop for gas before I hit reserve. Gregg

Honda VLX is good all round for the 650 size bikes, its better on gas than the yamaha 650, and handles better to me. Believe or not the vlx is just as good on gas as the 250 rebel, the rebel we had would only do 50 mpg at best, the vlx never got below 50mpg. Gregg

You can make a home made forge with a propane fish cooker, lava rocks, and some flat steel, you will then need a forged steel hammers, good anvil, the bigger the better. A REAL GOOD set of welding gloves, leather aprin, and excellent eye protection. The Forge, you need peice of 3/8 inch steel mine was 15"x15" the weld 6" flat around 3 sides at an slight angle, on the other use 3" flat, your making a pan to hold the lava rock, in the bottom of the pan drill several 1/2 holes in the center where the pan will sit over the burner. You will need a good fish cooker with a round burner, this will need to be fixed where you can tie it down so it is stable, I had welded my pan to my mount. It takes about 30 minutes for the lava rock to turn red, once they do you can place the spike in them and it will heat to red, then just beat it into whatever shape you want. USE the gloves the apron and EYE Protection, good saftey glasses with sides, and remember EYE protection, Good saftey glasses with sides, and did I mention the EYE protection, VERY GOOD SAFETY GLASSES WITH SIDES, for you and who ever is standing with in 50 feet watching, metal shardes become projectiles. I would put pics of mine but I left it when I changed job and it got gone from the county shop, and I have not made a new one, I used it to sharpen lawn mower blades, they last longer if you ping them out and heat treat. It's fun to play with steel, but be careful, easy to get burned. Gregg

I am pretty sure that won't work, the molds that you retread in are very specific, certain cap for a certain casing, but its been many years since I have capped a tire, we sold our molds in the late 80's when state tire contracts made new tires cheaper than recapping materials. So they may have a different process now. But I don't think I would trust a recap on a bike. Gregg

Every things good up here, temps getting cooler, expecting to have some days below 32 F before long, allready some s--w in North Ga and Tenn, which is good, Karren is ready to do some Snowskiing. We also have a toy run this weekend I think, I will have to check so much going on this time of year. I can not keep with where I am supposed to be. Have a great time on your run. gregg

No offense but it sound like you g/f has a selfish attitude, the $3.50 pays for the gas and vehicle to do the delivery, the tip is for the kid doing the runnning. It was certainly worth $5.50 to get your food hand delivered. I would have done the same. gregg

Just for info the muffler with the tips off of a RSTD are the same too, just have tips. They have the same part number stamped on them. I have the mufflers from my O4 RSV, 2000 RSV, and the 07 TD thats on my 04 RSV all have the same part numbers. Gregg

We look at the PG as it pertains to the movie and TV industry, and rightfully so, that where the term was originated. However it really does not work on this site, because of the different thing allowed by PG rating in movies, and members believing that anything said in a PG movie is acceptable on this, and the moderators saying its not. My intrupertation of what the moderators and Don are meaning, leave the profanity off of this site, just keep it clean. So lets just forget the pg an keep it clean. To the moderators. You have to remember we have on this site members from different cultures, different countries, and religous backgrounds. When they see a thread such as this one, just a gentle reminder, they may truely have no Idea what post you are refering to. Remember something one person finds completely obscene in one culture, may be perfectly acceptable in another. There are general statments that are, for example, jokes in the Northern US that are killing words in the Southern US and vice versa. I would not be in favor of a list of words not to use, that is not necessary. However when you are asked for a specific example from a member that is wondering if you are refering to them, or is unsure if they are posting something wrong, proper ediquite dictates that a proper example is given so the offence is clear and not repeated. If we were all the same with the same beliefs and ideas, there would not be a problem, however there is a wide range of beliefs in this world, I think everyone on this site will be cooperative if they are clear and understand what is expected. just my 2 cents. A 305 and 350 are the same engines with different bores, a small block 400 is a different engine, bore, crank, and heads plus water galleys are different. If its a 89 it is throttle body injected, and a 305 will bolt right in, I have had chev picks with both, I have never been able to tell much performance difference between the 2. as someone said any junk yard call tell what will fit. Karren hangs it one way then the other, or at a frineds house it is inside of a dispenser which it comes off the bottom, in my bathroom at home( we each have our on) it sits on the back of the comode on its side. The back tire throws water and what ever is on the road in the area of the silenoid, if you live where they salt the roads that is more than likely the culprit. I had the same problem with my 2004, the were actual salt crystals around the silenoid. I bought my bike out of north ga. I modified mine where the fuse holder is relocated behind the side cover, and I sealed over the silenoid, covered the plug with dielectric grease. Gregg -
If you have a split and knot, crackes or anything else the tire has failed, it my have not blown out but it has failed. gregg

Rode a friends $36,000 screaming eagle last weds, I must say it was just a much a piece of crap as the 1976 electra glide I had was, Rode rough as wagon, one of the worst handling bike I have every ridden. Handle bars shaking so bad at the red lights, feels like its pulling your shoulders out of joint. They talked me into ridding telling me I would buy one afterward. When we stopped he asked when I was going to get mine, I said When H--- Freezes over. Now give me back my Yamaha. Gregg

I don't know about the loud muffler thing, I was ridding a friends chopper the other day, and a lady came over on me, and its got Jessie James F--- You pipes on it, the output is pointed directly at the left side car window when you are beside them. They are ear splitting loud, and she never heard them, had the windows up on a navagator. AND yes she was on the cell phone, I can not understand why it seems that when women get in a car they want to talk on the phone. I guess some men are bad to but it all seems to be a woman on the cell phone totally oblivious to the world around her, that runs me in the median. Third time this year. Gregg
