I generally get 3 to 5 years out of car batteries, and generally get 5 years out of batteries on my motorcycles, but I always put the factory replacement in the bikes, the Yusa sealed battery, cost more but worth it. Any other discount battery won't last. I use the wal-mart batteries in the cars, buy their best and last about 3 years. I go to the cat dealer and buy batteries for the offshore boats, they are a little higher priced, but they are the longest lasting batteries I have ever bought. And 30 miles offshore you don't want a battery problems. Gregg

The antennas are perfect so why would you remove them except to put bigger taller ones on. I love the twins whipping in the wind. Gregg Every thread has to have a discontent. Gregg

Glenn This really does not make sense, but the CT works much better after it is broken in, at about 5000 miles. I run 32 in rear, I have about 10,000 miles on mine now. Gregg

Thanks for responding, I was just curious, I have left my jacket thrown over the windshield and my helmet in the seat, at most all of the bike events, has sat on main in daytona for hours unattended. But like I said in the begining, My luck may run out tommorrow. Gregg

Our group thought about doing the 1500 miles to sturgis this year, its 1650 miles from my house, by mapquest. Gregg

I see posts where riders talk about locking their helmet to the bike, or in the trunk. I have been riding for 36 years, and my luck my run out tomorrow, but I have put my helmet on the lock before, stuck it in the trunk, but most of the time I just set it up on the seat. So far I have never had a helmet stolen or messed with in any way. Has anyone ever had their helmet stolen from your bike. Gregg

If you look at the numbers, the true numbers a helmet is a 50/50 proposition, You either crush your skull with no helmet or the weight of the helmet turns you into a paraplegic, the cost to health is greater on the later, if your dead, they bury you. So it comes down to a personal choice, and I would prefer to do without. I don't won't the gov. telling me to wear it. As far as the DOT helmet, have your lawyer ask the court to have the DOT bring you a helmet that they approved, then when they won't do so, then ask for a list of the approved helmets by product number, you will not get either one. The DOT has manufactoring specifications for helmets, and there are helmets that meet these specs. but no DOT is going to tell you that any specific helmet is approved. The DOT sticker on the back of your helmet was NOT placed there by the dot, it was put on there by the factory, and it shows that the helmet meets these recomendations. This point has been used in Ga several times in court, and each time the DOT refuses to provide a helmet or a list of helmets. They can't if they did it would make the state liable for any injuries while wearing the specified helmet. Every time someone was injured the (sue me lawyers) would jump all over it. Gregg

I don't know but I have figured it several times, and riding back and forth to work, if I fill up with reg I will go 160 to 165 miles to res. 4.5 to 4.6 gallons. I have 52 miles round trip. so on the 4 day I fill up. With prem its 180 to 185 miles before it hits res. I tried this alternating reg to prem for several tanks, with the same results every time. I would like to do the 1500, but would like to do it in the flat lands, say a trip around florida. we have a route planned out just need to organize it. Gregg

The guys that orginized the ride made sure all of our documentation was complete and in order. Then they sent it in for us. Did not mean to open a can of worms. Gregg

My iron butt pins and goodies came today. I was about to think they were not coming. Gregg

Are you running prem or reg, I always run prem, I have checked it both ways and mine gets better gas mileage with prem, especially at highway speeds, at low speeds it does not seem to vary as much but on the interstate its about 4 MPG. Gregg

NEWBIE Tech Questions
footsie replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I know most use regular unleaded, but I have checked the milege with both reg. and premium, and on mine and I checked this on 2 different ventures. My 04 drops 3 to 4 MPG with reg, chrck it yourself, run 1000 miles with reg, and then 1000 miles with prem. Make sure you write all of your fill up and milege down and the figure the difference. And here at the shell prem is 22 cents a gallon more than reg, thats only a $1.10 per tank. Gregg -
I do not know about others but my 04 figures between 37.9 mpg at 85 mph and 46 mpg less than 70mph, every time, I ride with Bobby Hancock who owns a 2007 96 cu.in. electra glide with stage 1 kit in it, when we ride together, he always puts more gas in at every stop, if we go 180 miles, which is his limit, I generally put in 3.9 to 4.3 if we have been running hard then 4.5, he will put in 4.4 to 4.7 and if running hard we stop at 170 miles because he only holds 5 gallons. Now I know that is really not enough to count about 1/2 gallon each time, but i like to ride 200 miles at the time, and have yet to ride with a harley that can make it. Oh by the way we go by his speedo, because when his shows 180, mine is showing 183, so we figure mileage by his not mine. Guess I better leave mine alone, and not adjust anything. gregg

If you are trying to find away to prevent, multitasking, oblivious drivers, who are not paying attention to see you, consider this. 16 times a day, approx every 73 mins, one of these cage drivers pulls in frount of, a horn blowing, light pulsating, 1,000,000 tons of FREIGHT TRAIN, in which they generally get dead. How could they miss it, no way to over look the tracks, you would have to be deaf not to hear the horn, but it happens like clockwork. The only thing I can see for us to do, is to light up as best possible, and watch them like a hawk. If they don't respect a train, their are not going to pay us any attention. Oh by the way, every 17 mins one pulls in frount of a SEMI tractor trailer, they lose this battle too, but it happen every 17 mins according to the highway admin. I sorry ride scared to death, that's how I stay alive. Gregg My brother said the reason they pull out in frount of us, is they want to win ONE.

Due to the inescapable fact that I have not been informed to the highest degree of accuracy, I hesitate to articulate for fear that I my deviate from the true course of rectitude. This being said any further attempts on my part to answer the affore mentioned question could result in someone being misguided to the point they may cause bodily or mental injury, which could be the direct cause of a personel injury legal action. In other words, I don't know. so don't blame me. Gregg
