  1. I have a red 2000 VGenture with 53,000 miles on it. Bike is in good shape. Runs great, has had regular service intervals. The deal with this bike is when it was new it was dropped at low speed and was damaged. The owner who bought it had a replacement policy so the bike was replaced for him, then repaired and sold with a rebuilt title. The only part the original owner said was replaced was the left hand frount crash bar and the left hand saddle bag was repaired. The fairing has a couple of small cracks in it, that the second owner, who i bought from, told me he did when he let it fall over in the carport while cleaning it. Not done in the first mishap. Thanks Gregg
  2. I have hit one, it lying on is side with the tread facing me, on I-75 with truck to the right, another semi on my ass, and cars in the left lane. I had no where to go so I jusst ran straight over it. it flatten out and the bike ( was on the valkyire at the time) went right over it. Never the less it scared the crap out of me. Luck counts, guess my angel was on duty that day. Have heard some bad stories related to recaps. Freedom of the road for ALL Gregg
  3. What size mets are yall running. Curious about this because we have been running 170/80/15 on the handa magna's my wife and brothers bikes, with no problems. But have heard on the street and in obviously in this forum about problems with mets and the venture. In 03 to 05 we had a problem on the valkyries with the avon rear tire, know of several of those that just blew, low mileage. The one that went on my bike only had 1500 miles on it, and believe or not I had just checked the tire before we left on the ride. Still have an Avon on the frount with 18,900 miles on it with more to go. Have never heard of a frount tire problem with the avons.
  4. Guys have not gotten to do this work yet, wife wanted her bike painted before daytona, working on that at this time. will post pics and results when i can get to it.
  5. The difference is the bead seat, the raised area the bead of the tire has to jump over to seat. Its larger on the motorcycle rim. My nexum tire popped out at 70 psi after it was lubed with murphy lube. Gregg
  6. Give me a little time and i'll get some pics of the proceedure posted. and give a more detailed instruction, But everybody tells me they love the way its sound, even the harley guys. Thanks Gregg:happy65: Freedom of the road for ALL.
  7. I have seen where some were asking about muffler for venture that sound good but not loud. The yamaha shop gave me at set off of a 2007 tour deluxe. has the same the part number as the ones on my 2000, except they have moveable tips. I used a dremel tools with a cut off disk, went up in the muffler 1 inch and cut the tube, pushed it to the side and put them back on, they sound great, but are not loud unless under full throttle. also you can't tell the mod has been done looking at the muffler, nor can you run the stick up into muffler to check the baffle. This can be done to any 99 up venture, it was easy to due only takes about an hour. You do need the extension set for the dremel tool. Gregg:big-grin-emoticon:
  8. The tire will have to be removed from the bike and tire and wheel placed in the machine. He has many years of experience truing tires, we will rebalance afterward. My ct on my valkyrie is wearing in the middle not the sides, we think only a small amount of mileage will be lost. Hope to get this done wed or thursday. Will keep you all posted. Thanks Gregg
  9. We are going wed to sunday, spend a lot of time on main at night. Will be looking for other venture riders, Gregg:cool10:
  10. Anybody going to biketoberfest, or should I say who all is going.
  11. Thank you I tried to delete it, but didn't know how, so I reposted in the darksiders. New to the site. Thanks again Gregg
  12. One of my friends, who owns a tire dealership, has suggested that use the truing machine to round the edges of the car tire. He is going to trim 5/32 of tread from the edge and round 1/4 of the way toward the center. This will leave a flat area in the center and give the edges a round profile. He is convinced this will remove the cornering feeling many talk about. Will get this done sometime this week. Cruise On Gregg
  13. My friend who own a tire shop, has an idea which we are going to try. He believes that by using the truing machine to round the edges on a car tire that it will solve the cornering issues. he intends to cut 5/32 of the edge and round toward the center. will keep yall posted. Sorry posted in wrong area, someone moved it for after I changed it, read the next one up. Please read the other post with the same title. Cruise On Gregg:fingers-crossed-emo
  14. Guy's this issue has a lot of opinons not based on facts. I recently put a 165/80/15 ct on my 200 venture, this tire is the same width as the MT and its flat spot is no wider than the flat area worn into the mt. I can not tell the diffierence in handling. Through the curves the radial flex allows the tread to stay on the pavement. And yes they flex on cars throught the curves. tread is displaced and side walls rolls on the frount of a car, especially in a reverse incline curve. Facts are facts, i have seen more and more bikes with car tires on the rear. Riders are reporting better rides and greater mileage. Most Valkyries now have ct on back. All Boss Hoss had car tires up to a 2 years ago because no company made a mt tire big enough for them and there was no problem. I have had a car tire on my valkyrie for the past 5000 miles no problems what so ever. It works Gregg Freedom of the road for All
  15. I put the 165/80/15 nexum on my 2000, have put 500 miles on it since thursday. No problems really can't tell much difference, does ride better. Gregg freedom of the road for ALL :Venture:
  16. I have a 1971 CB 750, have had it since 1977. have it torn down right now for a total cosmetic overhaul.
  17. I got the 165/80/15 nexum, the supplier did not have the federal in stock so my tire dealer got the nexum. After we got it mounted we measure the flat area its about 4 inches, the same width as the maxis mc tire was. We put 40 psi as some had suggested, I rode it and the only difference I could tell is the bikes rides better, but no changes in performance. We rode the hardest curves near by, I could tell no difference from the mc tire, bike handled perfectly. I did notice out on the interstate, the bike is more stable where the pavement is groved and unlevel, does not try to follow the groves anymore. I consider it an improvement. Gregg. 18. No mine is Yellow, I painted it and the wife's magna to match, she wanted yellow. But I agree red and white is the best looking bikes. The guys talking about the ct being flat is kinda not an issue to me, I have always liked mc tires best in the last few miles when they had a nice wide flat area worn into them. The current tire on my Venture is a 150/90/15 maxis as is just about worn out. After removing the rear wheel from the bike this evening I measured the flat area, was 4 inches, and was riding and handling fine but was thin and almost slick. As I said my valkyrie's ride, cornering and stopping ablities were only improved by the ct, I can find no adverse effects. So a new 165/80/15 goes on the venture in the morning. I have found the info here to be helpful, will try the suggested psi. thanks for all the opinions, enjoy reading everyone's, even the ones I don't agree with. freedom of the road for ALL thanks, GREGG
  19. Thanks for the info on gas mileage. Have found a lot of interesting info on this site, enjoy reading the posts. Glad to be here Gregg Freedom of the road for ALL :Venture:even if they do ride a Harley. just kidding
  20. My 2000 is so loud at 65 mph you can't hear the pipes or the radio. At 50 or 80 mph its silent, depends on rpm's. freedom of the road:Venture:
  21. I am new to this site and learning to navagate it. I was wondering if the car tire would affect the gas mileage on the venture. I have a 2000 Venture and have ordered a federal 165/80/15 for the rear. This is my daily rider because of its great gas mileage, to and from work, so I am curious if anyone has noticed in change in their mileage after mounting a ct on the venture. I also own a 1997 valkyrie with a 205/60/16 on it and the ct did drop it mileage a couple of miles per tank, it only gets 27 mpg anyway. guess you can't have gut wrenching power and fuel economy together. I would also like to say that all this concern about the twisties, my valk is far more sure footed with the ct. I have to be careful not to tear the pegs off in sharp curves. I had to get use to it but now there is no way I would put a mc tire back on the rear. Thanks for allowing on your site. Gregg Freedom of the road for all.
  22. Hello I am new to this site. recently bought a 2000 venture. I have a question that have have not seen asked or answered. Does the ct affect the gas mileage any on the venture. I have a valkyrie that I have been running a 205/60/16 on for some time, and it did affect the mileage slightly a couple miles per tank no big deal. But I still was wondering about the venture, it is my daily rider to and from work, because of its great gas mileage. I have order the federal 165/80/16. On my Valkyrie the uniroyal has 6800 miles on and shows no wear, it still has 11/32 of tread. Will never put a motorcycle tire back on it. Thanks for having me on your site. Gregg Freedom of the road for ALL.
