  1. I put XM/sirius radio on my RSV, went in fairing unpluged the wire going to the tape deck aux port, plugged up and ext set, placed the Sirius antenna on the trunk rack, its magnetic so it just grabs on. Mounted the receiver on the right side master cylinder. Works great, what ever I want to listen to, no tapes, no cd's, no batteries. no little box to keep up with. just music with no problems, $120 yearly. And yes it been in the rain several times, no problems. Gregg
  2. Buddy what air pressure are you running on your wing. Gregg
  3. The reason my 04 is only on its third oil change, is it only had 8800 miles on it when I picked it up, The worst thing the pervious owner did was not ride it. (Of course it was good for Me, I got a low mileage bike that looked like it just came out of the show room) I did run some sea foam in the gas for a couple of tanks. The bike now has 11,000 miles and has settled down and running great. I think all that setting around the carbs were about to gum up. All is well now, No chirp since oil change. Just need an Avon radial on the frount. Gregg
  4. I use the Avon Cobra radial, 150/80/16, best thing I have ever done for the venture. last I bought was $165 from bikebandit.com Gregg
  5. I have dropped my kumho to 32 psi, seems more stable, made a 175 mile ride afterward. will report back after a few more mile in different conditions. But so far I think the lower pressure is better. Gregg
  6. IT is fully synthetic and wallmart in tifton Ga, is where I got it. But I got the info from someone else on this site, in another post, in the second generation tech talk. I will try to find it, and post it in this thread. However so far I like it, 500 miles since change so far so good. 4T racing 10-40 freedom of the road for all Gregg
  7. Changed the oil in my 04 today, it had reg oil that the guy I bought it from had put it. but this is only it third oil change. It did have a very low chirp to it. I changed to the mobil one racing oil and after about 10 miles, no more chirp, no whine just a perfectly quiet bike. Well except for the mufflers I modified. Mobil One 4T racing 10-40 Gregg:missingtooth:
  8. Interresting topic, but I want to throw in a question, everyone keeps talking about clutch problems, I use synthetic, change every 5000 to 6000 miles, I ride hard, really hard. and have never had any clutch problems. I have had several honda's with very high mileage, including my 1971 cb 750 with 129,000 miles and it still has the factory clutch. I did put one clutch in a 83 virago that was burned up by friends we let learn to ride on that bike, new riders tend to ride the clutch. Is the clutch a problem in the venture, My 2000 had 58,000 miles on it with no problems. what's the deal. Oh on the oil question, I was fleet maintenance manager for years, and the 3000 miles oil change is bull stuff, we ran oil analysis on all vehicles, the patrol cars and heavy eq too. We used delo 400 15-40in everything, The results were always the same, samples pull at 3000 miles even in the traffic cars that idled constantly the chased after speeders. always came back with oil life to spare. We then went to 5000 mile intervals, analysis still showed oil to have safe usable hours. And when we did start using synthetics, they proved better, not with guess work but with documented and lab tested results. I have a caravan that has 250,000 miles used 10w30 castrol, change every 5000, runs great, Am I going to change it to syn, Nope gonna run on with what it has had since new. Do what you feel comfortable with, your the one gonna be a long way from home on your bike. Gregg
  9. I did not see the vent hole, was going to use epoxy but I want to make sure I don't plug the vent hole. The spot weld was very small indeed on this one. Does the vent screw in the punpkin or is it just driven into the hole. Thanks Gregg
  10. I was puting a new shaft seal seal in the rear end, got all back together and looked down on the floor, and the chrome cap that sets on the rear vent was on the floor. Does not look like much holds it on. Anyone else had one come off, I must have knocked off somehow. Gregg
  11. I don't know if this will help you, but the way I lift the bike to change the rear tire is, strap the frount end between two stable poles, I have 4 x 4 post in my shop, use 2 cycle straps on the frount forks, stand the bike up straight with the straps and then put a floor jack under the bike on the steel plate just in frount of the shock. then you can jack the rear up high enough to get the tire out. roadsofa

Does anyone in Ga, AL, or north fla have a roadsofa on a Venture, I would like to sit on one before I order spend money on one. Thanks Gregg
  13. over 1000 miles on kumho, and all is well, I think I will get to order my Cobra for the frount the next time I get paid. gregg
  14. Valkyries are awsome machines, owned one for 10 years, but finally subcome to the creature comforts of the Venture. Gregg
  15. I just do not like the way a harley handles, I have ridden a road glide 08, 07 electra glide and road kings. The owners tell how wonderful they handle but I do not get it, All handle very sluggish, they do not respond to the driver. True they can do beautiful low speed manuvers ridding around cones, put the floorboards on the ground and turn, however I don't ride in a parking lot doing manuver, I ride 75 mph on the interstate. The guys I ride with that have harleys, are experienced riders, and I can out manuver then on the highway, they say it's because I've been ridding longer than they have, that may be, but I say part of it is the machine. My point is be sure YOU go ride the bike your thinking of buying, ride it far enough so you can tell. Rent one if you have to, better to spend a little and be sure than to spend alot and not like the bike. Then if it suits you its all good. High dollar machine are not moving well now don't get stuck with a bike you really don't like. I know guy who is in that situation, his buddies talked into a new buell that he hates, owns too much to sell without taking a bad loss. BE SURE before you buy. Gregg
  16. I am glad there was no serious injuries, that's the main thing. Ofcourse those scraps and bruises still hurt. Gregg
  17. I have the best luck with Avons, and they make radials in most sizes now. Best prices I have found are at bikebandit.com
  18. The venture is more classic looking, and I love the riding position, but I washed and polished mine yesterday took me over 2 hours. Serviced, changed engine oil, checked fluid levels, tires, etc. and washed my brothers wing in less time, the tupperware is a lot easier to clean. Gregg
  19. I ride a 2004 white venture, my brother rides a 2005 goldwing, I ride right along with him, until he decides to twist the throttle, then he's gone. We tried it from 60 in high gear, I ended up kicking down to third and he still left me, and he did shift down. There are not many crotch rockets that will take a 1800 Goldwing. Gregg
  20. Today I was on my way to my mother-in-laws, she was having a birthday party for my youngest daughter just turned 16. I was getting off the cloverleaf exit in tifton ga. Its a real hairpin turn, that I really love to lean through, you know scrub the floorboards, well today I came off the interstate around 50 MPH, and found a surprize in the middle of this exit, OIL a nice large patch. Well with the floorboards all but scubbing, there was no way to miss it, the brickstone on the frount just went to sliding, the kumho on the back did not slide at all, it held all the way through the patch. Now I have been ridding since age 13, 37 years, I don't remember ever having this situation before. I have slid the rear around but not the frount. The only thing I could think to do was to stand the bike up, it came up and I almost went across the ditch into the access road. I kept it up but don't know how. I did not touch the brakes at all, pretty sure that would have put me down. had to change underwear afterward. will slow down there from now on. Gregg
  21. I saw a venture at the pilot station this morning with an ultimate seat, I knew des does not make seats for the venture, so I asked this guy what he had done. He bought the Rstd seat, pull the staples and transfered the seat pad and cover on to the RSV seat pan. I think I'll do the same. He did not know about this site but He also said he did not like to surf internet. I talked to Des at thunder beach, he said he did not make the ultimate for the venture because he thought the stock seat was as good as his. I told him no, it was not, I think if we would send him some e-mail asking for ultimates for the ventures he might would start making them.
  22. I sold my 2000 with 58,000 on for $6250.00 and it had a rebuilt title. Paid $9500.00 for my 2004 with 8800 miles on it, it had some add on too. Sound like a reasonable price, but I would make an offer just see if he would negociate. between 7500 and 8000. But if the bike has want YOU want and the price is good to you, its great. Your the one who's going to ride and pay for it. Gregg
  23. I just put a bow in Karren"s road star stand when I lowered it. JUst took a 2 lb machinist hammer and hit it till bowed enough for the bike to lean. Gregg
  24. According to the personel at my bank if the pump asks for your pin number the charge is instant and no extra money is held, I always use my debit and have never had a problem. But I always try to go to a station I know will ask for pin number. Will not go through the hassle of prepay inside. Gregg
  25. My reasons for purchasing the radial was ride and handling. The radial car tire on back made the bike ride so much better I new that a matching radial on frount had to help. And the Avon Cobra is a frount radial not a rear tire turned backward. Handling, years ago at the road dept where I once worked, on the dump trucks we ran bias ply lugged grips on the back and radials on the frount, the draw back was it made the trucks wiggle through curves. Which many have complained about on here about the venture with a radial ct on back and bias on frount. To me it was very minor, easily tollerated, But I remembered when the started making radial mud grips for the dump trucks and the truck had radials on both ends the wiggle in the curves stopped. So I decided I needed frount tire anyway price is about the same, and I am an avon fan too. I ordered the Cobra radial, bike rode better and the little wiggle in the curves was eliminated. this was on my 2000 RSV, which I have sold. As far as mileage the Avon on the frount of my valkyrie had 19,775 miles on it when I took it off, still had some miles left but most I take tires off too soon. My idea on that, your not wasting money keeping good tires on a bike, only 2 tire and My life is riding on them. A guy who lives near me has the red 2000 now, and loves the ride, it has a nexum on the rear. I have the kumho on the back of my white 04 RSV and it will soon have a cobra radial on the frount. It is just a great combination. The tire is almost exactly the same it is a 150/80/16, maybe a tad shorter but width is very close. Hope I answered you question Gregg
