I am 51 and still in good health, but when it get where I can't ride 2 wheels, it will be a Gold Wing trike for sure, 3 main reasons, 1 Quiet, 2 reverse, 3 Gas mileage, I love my venture but even the quiet ones are noisey, they don't have reverse, and my brother's goldwing 1800 beats my venture on gas mileage every time. and the goldwing are longer trikes don't seem to have that trike wobble. gregg

Even though the wife rides a Road Star. "PUT THE V-TWIN BACK IN THE LAWN MOWER WHERE IT BELONGS" And my latest episode, I was thinking it was me, but after reading this thread maybe not. I was ridding to work, in my scubs( I am nurse) on the interstate, about halfway a group of bikes was coming down the entrance ramp and I moved over for them, they entered the highway and accellerated to a speed faster than I was running, about 80 I was at 75 mph. I moved back over into the right lane( I was running slow than most traffic ) and continues on my way. Construction starts before the exit I get off on, they had slowed down to 60 mph the posted limit, (had out of state tags) I only slowed to 65 so I caught up with them a couple of miles before we got off, and they got off on the same exit as I do. When we got to the end of the exit, construction had it blocks for a few minutes, nothing new, but as we sat there 3 of the guys at the back of the pack got off their bikes and walked back to me. I thought maybe they were going to talk or ask local directions. Well they told me the were on a long distance HOG ride and I could not ride with them. DO WHAT, EXCUSE ME, and this was one of the times my brain worked for me. I just started looking around on the ground, one guys asked ( What the **** are you looking for?) I answered I am looking for where it says this highway owned by HOG, don't see it so I will ride the _____ ______ _____ where I want. Then I made a statement I really should have not made, Mouth was in gear mind had went to neutral. ( I told them not get in a wreck and be brought back to the hospital where I work) (ICU nurse) but that was a meaningless guesture, I was mad at the time. Would have taken care of them to best of my ability, no matter what they had said. A nurse is sworn to do no harm and help everyone, even our worst enemy, who I have taken care of before, strange that he did seem to be my enemy after that. I thought it just that seemed to always be at odds with the hog group, but after reading this thread I guess not. I still say, Freedom of the ROAD FOR ALL Gregg

How far do yall want to ride without stopping. My venture goes on reserve between 175 and 195 miles depending on the ride conditions. On the iron butt we rode I averaged 39.75 mpg. most of the time riding alone I average 41 mpg. I can always get 200 miles, and pushing it 220 on a tank. On 2 lane riding, not over 65 mph I can get up to 46 mph, then reserve is at about 205 miles, either way at 200 miles I want to stop for a minute. that's 4 hours in the seat. And no matter how you put it, fun, a challenge or not, an Iron butt ride is not safe, I have done one and will more than likely do another, but no one, I don't care who you are or what you believe you can do, is safe driving anything more than 10 hours without stopped for a rest and sleep. That why the trucking laws exists today, there was extensive reach performed over a persons ability to remain focused to operate vehicles safely. This research was carried out in all vehicles not just trucks. I was emt for years, and after working the interstate and sees the accidents that driver falling asleep caused, it is obivious to me a safety stop every few hours is smart. I know someone is bound to say, that on a bike your not going to hurt anyone but your self, WRONG, DEAD WRONG, back in 1997 a biker on a Goldwing went to sleep on I-75 at the Turner-Tift county line, went through the median and hit a small car head on, and the resulting wreck cost 4 people, an entire family their lives. The biker was not injured he was thrown off when the bike went through the median, he landed in tall grass on soft dirt( mud). The biker had started out from virginia that morning and had been stopping only for gas, he was trying to go straight through to Panama City Beach. From what he told, he had been in the saddle for 14 hours when the wreck occured. On the Iron Butt we recently did, it took us 20 hours to complete, now I was doing ok at the end, but I was not 100%, we were all very tired, and that's when mistakes occur. Me, David and Bobby discuss the ride Friday night and talked about the condition we were in at the end. My point you need to think carefully about how far you and your mental acuity, dead is a premenant condition, you don't come back. By the way in most states, the highway patrol and can charge you with reckless driving or DWI if you are altered due to exhaustion. just my 2 cents. Gregg

The Venom is not a radial, is it? That why I ordered the Cobra, If you running a Venom X its bias ply, I did not see a venom R when I ordered the Cobra. Gregg
-
I still think the problems a few of yall are having is the radial on the rear and the bias ply on the frount, I am running 36 psi in the kumho and the same in the avon cobra on the frount, I don't have any of the issues described now, did have some with the bias bridgestone on frount. I rode 1000 miles saturday in all conditions no problems. And I am a very aggressive rider. Question to those having problems, what tire do you have on frount. Gregg

The trailer thing is a joke guys, you how to you get a Harley to daytona, On a trailer My wife has lupus she can't ride 500 miles and then enjoy herself when we get to our destination. So for long distance trip her road star rides the trailer. Now she can do daytona 250 miles for biketoberfest, but generally pulls the trailer in the truck with my sister in-law who also has lupus. The guys ride. Now Bobby Hancock's 07 blue electra glide, and my white 04 RSV, if you see them on a trailer, DIAL 911 they have been STOLEN. I don't think someone who owns a hardtail pan head is going to ride 500 miles at the time. As far as a real biker, to me its the ones that been riding for years, always had a bike. We have several friends that had bikes(harleys) because its the now thing. to each his own. But remember its supposed to be a free country. Gregg

Well we did the Iron Butt in Newnan Ga, Saturday, got to meet Ted but missed him the next morning at the start, We did not get to the starting point until 0530. Guess he had went on. Well anyway it was a wet ride, through the mountains in NC we got soaked. Had some electrical problem with My RSV, starter silenoid. but got through the ride. Made it back the start point about 0300 Sunday morning. Yep took us 21 hours, but we stopped and ate in Nashville TN. The weather cleared just as we went through knoxville and was Good from there back to Newnan. I told the guys that put it on " I think I have a candy a-- instead of a Iron butt" The pillow top is ok, but it sucks after about 600 miles. Gregg
-
They can stand the vibration to ride them. I an't going to talk much, went on the Iron butt, this weekend and guess who's bike gave troubl. Mine my 04 RSV. fuse at the starter sileniod corroded up and burnt the holder, had to patch it, and it gave trouble in the rain. Bobby's electra Glide was giving electrical problems too. Gregg

Driver painting nails kills biker at stoplight.

She a nurse, we spend years in college become a Nurse, many hours yearly doing inservice training from everything to what to eat, to yes the dangers of traffic, seatbelts, car seats, bike safety, and yes I did inservice last on drivers multi-tasking behind the wheel. Too look at every possible danger to our patient's and their famlies, she knows better, I would be ready to wager she has seen the damage first hand. If she ever worked in the ER, OR, ICU. We are supposed to watch out for people, we are sworn TO DO NO HARM. anywhere. I hope put her under the jail, just after they take Her Nursing licence. She has disgraced us all. Gregg Mathis RN -

I pull the choke and take off, push it back in 1/2 mile down the road. The reason that choke is designed to increases idle, is to bring the oil pressure up rapidly, fuel injected do this automatically. I have noticed that my brothers gold wing and bobby's harley both jump up to about 1500 rpms then idle down after a 30 secs or so, when its cold. Back when I managed the fleet shop for the county, when we rebuilt the cat engine engines, it was recommended that a new rebuilt engine was to be started at half throttle, an ran there until operating temp was reached on the first start up. ALL RIGHT WITH ME, you can be mean. Looks like we might have a WET IRON BUTT. Gregg

Lets say we will arrive at 12:30 to 1:00, give folks time to talk in the parking lot and get aquainted. I said one oclock arrival so the lunch crowd should be thinning out. Some of the others haved stated they would be between one and two. So if shoot to arrive at 12:30 most of us should be there by 1:00, and others will trickle in. Gregg
