  1. Has anyone ever replaced the oil in the rear shock? Is it possible? I hope to improve the ride for the remainder of the year. My shock is getting tired and seems to be leaking air. Did the entire lead test and found no bubbles anywhere.
  2. Took a me day on Sunday and went for a ride from Ottawa to Carleton Place to Renfrew to Bancroft and back to Ottawa via #7. Around 522km. Fist fill up in Eganville I got 50mpg or 5.65L/100km Very nice!! Second fill up I got 46.59 mpg or 6l/100km Nice! Two weeks ago I took my wife and our rather large camper trailer to Kingston and back and got something like 38mpg I got better mileage on the secondary roads going 80 to 90km/h in 4th then doing 100-110 in 5th. Gota love the Venture!
  3. That's the way I think. I am way more inclined to be careful on a bike; however, since I drive a motorcycle, I am now a way better driver. Waite a minute!!! driving a motorcycle should be mandatory!!!
  4. I am very surprised at the mask used in the demo video for Dupli-Color. With the chemicals in paints now a days one is really taking a chance with their health just using a paper filter. That young guy wants to be breathing with a oxygen tank in the near future. I was watching a part about candy colors. The filter I use is from a automotive paint supply company who has never steered me wrong in the past. GUY'S!!! Go for it! paint your bikes yourselves, but, use a filter that will remove all organics and what ever else is in the paints that cause cancer!!!
  5. I own a 2001 Prius because, for some reason, I wanted a Hybrid. Never again!!! The potential costs of repair and the repair costs all starting at $3000.00 is not worth the little you will save over an efficient gas or diesel car and driving smart. I was confronted with a $4000.00 dollar estimate at the stealer-ship just a month ago. New traction Battery (3100.00) and a new mass flow ($300.00). I read up on the web and after a week I ,at least temporarily, repaired my traction battery and picked up a can of Mass flow senser cleaner and cleaned it. All this for $600.00. :mo money::mo money::mo money::mo money::mo money: All Toyota traction batteries before 2010 are not very good. The batteries will most likely fail after 150,00km. The 12v battery cost close to $200.00 Just my
  6. We have had Majic Jack for 2 years now and have been VERY Happy with it. $69.00 for 5 years for unlimited north American calling, not bad!! I probubly will go with the new one but I am not in a hurry. I think I can still get it for a special price of $20.00. And with my lap top I can use it anywhere. I say go for it.
  7. Yes bad drivers get us all, 2 and 4 wheelers alike but sometimes it the little things that bend the the branch to the limit . Just one thing I really hate!! The metal bridges that I have to cross from time to time that grab your bike and seem to toss you around. You know the ones that with the rectangle grid pattern that tend to span , at great heights I must ad!, rivers and such. Last time I was on such a bridge it had one lane gone for construction and, not being overly excited about heights would explain why I felt like screeming like a little girl!!!
  8. November 17 and still ridding!! Gota just love it. Any suggestions for a good set of snow tires for the old girl!!! Rode today and loved it!! 0C at 8am on my way to work. Roads were dry and standing water was still liquid. 4C when I left for home. Going to safely push it as much as I can. My goal is drive it at least once a month. With the weather we been having it may be possable.
  9. Please take me off the list as well.
  10. Thanks for the time you took to make the video and post it for us. I am looking for something for my bike and the walk through answered all my questions. P.S. Good songs!
  11. My 85 has 79000km or around 49000miles. Hardly broke it yet!!!!
  12. Just put in some ngks and they work GREAT! Seems my bike was running on three cylinders for a time and still had power to spare. However, gass mileage is much better now. Went to Lake Placid fully loaded with gear and the wife along and still got good mileage. 38mpg
  13. Very nice!!! I wanted to change the look ant this does it for me.
  14. That's just mean!! I gotta try that !!!! I can remember many many years ago when I was around 17. Going with my old Yamaha going to some guy selling parts in a yard sale and telling him I needed a new clutch. He dug through a box and pulled out some parts and told me this should do it!! He was right on. Gone are the days you can get that type of knowledge in most places. Except here!!! OK! getting all mushy and teary eyed. Gonna stop now!!
  15. Your TCI is absolutely collecting moisture. Sounds like the same problems I had and many other owners on this site. One way or another get the TCI out of the area its in. I would highly recommend you replace the diodes while you have it out. It's easy and save you the possible larger problem of electronic problems down the road. Not to mention no worry! I just ordered a working (I hope!!) one and will fix it up so I can have a spare.
  16. At last I took the plunge and followed the good advice offered here and replaced the diodes in the TCI unit. All I can say is that its is worth doing and easier then I thought. The bike now definitely runs better and as you will see from the photos I think I did this just in time!!! First I got ready for a long and tedious amount of work! Coffee!!!! Then I went and took skydoc's advice and soldered everything I could solder including the CMU. The rest of the images show the damaged diodes and the work I did. For anyone wondering what failing diodes look like I think I may have found the proof!! When I touched then, they just fell apart. I hope this encourages anyone thinking about this to do it. All you need is a soldering iron with a fine point and the diodes sold at The Source (Radio Shack) Item # 2761653. This is an assortment of 25 diodes and there are 10 diodes in there that will replace the old ones. (1N4001). They fit easily into the existing holes left by the old diodes. I will be looking for another one to fix and have as a spare for sure.
  17. YEP! INDEED! WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID!!!
  18. Add one more! My 85 is running strong and with the new springs and supper brace this summer should be just wonderful.

    First Ride

Removing the anti-dive should make a difference but I can't say I tested both. They were just ugly anyway. Real easy to change everything and I went with 15 weight oil but I may try something lower next time. What a difference between springs! One would think Yamaha would use something better then the stock springs they used.
  20. Its 7degrees C and the sun is shinning. So this morning I replaced the fork springs and took off the anti-dives and with the new brace it was a nice day to take a ride!! The bike preformed above expectations. Thanks to Condor's super brace and Skydoc's springs and anti-dive covers, this is going to be a good summer for ridding. Now, can any one tell me where I can get a supply of free time and gas money!!!!!
