  1. I thought I was looking at traffic cams in Ottawa. There is no such thing as stopping and looking before you turn right at a light or stop sign. I have become such a better driver since I started ridding again. I just try to take all intersections slow and easy. Its not nice to see this stuff but we better not forget how to ride defensively! Just my two cents!
  2. THANKS GUYS. HAD HER OUT FOR A FIRST TEST RUN BUT SHE NEEDS THE CARBS SYNC. AND FORK SEALS. really good news IS THE 2HD GEAR SEEMS FINE!!!
  3. Need some help here. I am ordering some fork seals and want to make sure of the model #. I can't find anything on motor and the ownership says "XVS" !! I am prity sure they mean Z not S. Anyway how can I tell between a "N" "TK" or what ever it could be. Or, does it mater at all since all 1985 XVZ12 Ventures are mostly the same. Your help is appreciated!
  4. I heard from someone that heard from someone that heard it from a cop that marbles work the best. Gently let one fly!! and, as it makes contact with the windshield it disintegrates leaving no evidence. Of course someone stupid enough to follow a bike that close may be capable of much more. It may be best just to let the @$$ O by. Ahh!!! then follow him home and pull him screaming from his car.... OOOPs sorry that was not called for!!
  5. Is there any one in Ottawa that can recommend a place to bring the bike to be safetied. My first bike I brought to Gear Heads in Kanata and they used a hammer to remove the front and rear axle. Nice move ah! I flipped on them!!!!! One place in the east end told me to be careful of their service department! Great!! So, any suggestions would be appreciated.
  6. Thanks !! That's what I was thinking regarding play. I for some reason could not find the post about the grease zerts. Any parts supplier suggestions??
  7. I have removed the rear suspension linkage including the shock from a spare frame and from my "I hope to ride some day soon" bike. Here are the questions: 1) Please help me find the posts about putting a grease nipple on them! 2) Between both shocks if they are both working , which one is better. 3) OK stupid question: How much play is too much play!! I have attached some pics for your viewing pleasure
  8. What started out as a quick fix and a long summer of riding has turned into your standard "make it look real pretty" job. Thanks Earl for the mod spacers for the carbs. I will need to look into some threads to get an idea how to deal with the adjustable needles. Here are a few pics to show the progress. At present, I am doing some modifications since she is taken apart. Moved the TCI box, will get at carbs soon, changed oil, strengthened the plastic because some day it will crack there! Lube what I can lube and generally looking at every bolt. I think, well the little lady thinks" I should go with a single color close to the original brown with the burgundy tint. I will probubly add some more metal flakes to it.
  9. I did it to the 83 and will do it to the 85 now that its apart for painting. Its hard to get at but if it develops a gap, and it will, you will be soooo happy you moved it. Especially if you go through some rain. When the 83 got wet I tried to just run it around the bock. Man did it miss, but, when all cylinders kicked in I almost lost both arms not to mention control.
  10. Its listed in e-bay.ca because I view what's up on e-bay through the .ca page to get Canadian prices shown to me. That's all!!
  11. For anyone looking! Item # 370353537868 http://cgi.ebay.ca/YAMAHA-XVZ1200-XVZ1300-1200-VENTURE-TOW-TRAILER-HITCH_W0QQitemZ370353537868QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item563aca834c
  12. I'm thinkin matallic blue like the 83 but go for the candy colors. I like the fade to black effect. That looks great with burgundy. I could use the candy blue to highlight! Then put a small amount of smoke of flames on it. All depends on the $$ amount!
  13. It all started rather innocently last year. I was just surfing the net late one night for stuff for the 83 and up came a 85. The photos were so sweet. Beautiful curves, classy act and so available. I just had to have her. She was promising low maintenance and a easy start to the new season. As I got to know her I had to make her happy and do what I could to bring her what I thought would make her happy. My wife said just ride the bike. Today she sits apart and I am picking paint colors and finishes.. How did I get here!!!! What happened????? Why do I like it so much? !!!!!!!! Any suggestions on color???
  14. Yes yes yes is the answer. For years I have wanted one but life has been busy. I found this sight a few years ago and the thoughts were planted. When my 83 came around I saw the beauty of the old girl. Man, did she need work. But, I did the work and with your help she was great. When the 85 came around in Dec. I had to jump on it. I was not planning to do much but I just can't help myself. Yes, a fresh paint would looook sooooo nice. Well, thats the thing that gets all of us with this bike. It's way more then just buying shinny stuff to add to it to a new bike. It's the love of the ride, the feel of the bike and the self worth we can feel knowing we build and maintained a fine bike.
  15. May I please be added to the list. Thanks
  16. My 83 had a petcock I believe. I was on the right side under the side cover. My 85 looks like the photos above. The valve didn't move very well so I left it alone. To tell you the truth it had already broke off before I got the bike. Ran the bike till it ran out of gas and know how far I could go. Ran it from Ottawa to well past Montreal with a heavy load. OK I know its more info then you need but this snow is getting to me. I really neeeeed to ride soon.

Nice photo. Me think there is a photographic eye behind the camera!!
  18. With all the hot air coming from the politicians:179: here in Ottawa you would think it be a tropical season all year long!!!
  19. OK I may be able to get one but I will need maps. its a Tom Tom Go 700. So, Is this one any good??? Does anyone have maps they would like to sell? Thanks
  20. Cold and clean no caffeine!! HaHaHa!!!!! But 5-6% alcohol by volume Thinking warn thoughts today. Maybe winter will end sooner!! Went through Tennessee two winters ago and I aim to go through with the bike this summer if everything pans out. Just loved it. Loved the ascent everyone talked with. ah!
  21. Does this hitch look like the correct hitch for a 1985 Venture? You help is very much appreciated.
  22. I fully agree. I have a great deal of experience behind the wheel. From driving a cab, school bus and a Manitoulin transport Super Buggy. But by far my driving has improved as a motorcyclist. I found this link and its powerful. Don't look at it if you have had an accident and aren't quite over it yet if ever, but really, people need to see what happens when they don't stop at stop signs or don't "look, Look and look again" This should be on TV all the time. As the prep begins

I am just salivating in expectation of a good ride!!
  24. Good idea, nice fix until a cover comes up.. On my old 83 I had to recover the whole deck with vinyl because of weathering and cracks I will keep my eye open on E-Bay. I hope to keep it as original as possible with the exception of a few mods where needed. Thanks again!
