  1. I have been looking at touring bikes for a month or so. This is a very good price for an '08. The cheapest I have seen an '08 priced in all that time is 10,000. You have to remember this thing still has 3 years left on the warranty. A dressed bike to most people is fairing/radio and saddlebags. Other niceties like cruise, and intercom are only found on the highest end bikes, so I don't think "fully dressed" is over stating it on a Venture. IMHO
  2. Another woodworker here. I like that style of furniture, very practical and nice dimensions. Is it your design?
  3. I don't pay it much thought. I wave at everybody, Harleys, scooters, wings and even bicycles. If they want to wave that's cool. If they don't want to wave that's fine too. I don't pay much attention to who does or doesn't.
  4. I do a little welding and I would recommend that you go with 220. What little experience I've had with 110 welders wasn't very good. You can get a used 220 stick welder for little money and do a lot with it.
  5. I rode mine a couple of days this week without the windshield or backrest, and it does seem to handle better. I don't know if it's real or imagined, but it makes a difference in the feel.
  6. What did you think about the vibration or lack of after you got moving?
  7. Nice table. I started woodworking because I needed a certain size end table and couldn't find one, so I built one and it turned out really nice. Most of the wood furniture in my house is custom made by me
  8. I've been looking at Road Glides, wishing they had a tour pack. Oh well I'll have to wait a couple of years to get a used one.
  9. For the benefit of another woodworker, how did it happen? I am always careful, but I know it can happen to the best of us.
  10. How did you get 19,000 out of those tires?
  11. The kid who talked me into test riding the Wing couldn't have been over 26 years old. He was so jazzed about it that he made me think I wanted one. I'm a little like Arc in that I like the feel of the cruiser style touring bikes, but I wouldn't say the GW isn't a fun machine, it's just different. If I could afford more than one bike, I'd have one for sure.
  12. I don't agree with the above statement at all, in fact the Gold Wing felt much more like the bikes I rode when I was young than my RSTD does. The reclined seating position of the Royal Star is much more car like, than the sport bike feel of the GW. I think you should ride one. It's a blast.
  13. I agree with everything TX said. Lower air pressure should help with the tread wear your experiencing and the rough ride. It sounds like the trailer and its' load is bouncing excessively because of too hard suspension.
  14. I really like the Strat Deluxe in pictures, but I looked at one in person the other day, and didn't like it at all. Like someone else said, it looks kinda cheap.
  15. Test rode a 2010 Wing today, and whether or not you care here's what I thought. Turned bars to the left to exit parking lot. Oops windshield didn't turn it felt odd, but honestly it was the last time I even noticed the frame mounted fairing. Gave it some gas and immediately needed to shift to second. First gear seems almost unnecessary on this bike. I feel a little cramped. Is it because my feet are under me instead of out front? I can't decide. Hit third and twisted the throttle and I was having fun. It will run. Made a right turn effortlessly. This thing handles like a much smaller bike. I was close to my house so I tried out some curvy roads I knew of nearby and man this thing just rides so "effortless" is the word that keeps coming to mind, I don't feel cramped any more. I like the power. You can leave it in 4th gear and go about any speed you want, and the brakes are amazing. This thing is so quiet and smooooth you can listen to the radio and it's almost like being in a car. That's the part I can't decide if I like or not. I pull up the ramp to get on the interstate and 2 Harleys pass quickly and are probably 100 yards ahead before I get halfway up the ramp. I give it some gas and I'm on their tail in seconds. I'm at 90 but it feels so comfortable I feel like I'm going slower. I get off at the next exit and head back towards the dealership. The way I'm seated it feels like my toes are pointed down, and I wonder if I leaned enough to drag a peg would I scrape the toe of my tennis shoe? I look down and don't think so. I take time to look at all the controls, gauges and storage compartments and think it's kind of cool. Like I'm on some kind of space vehicle. Oops I'm coming up to the dealership and I'm in the wrong lane with several cars in the other lane. No problem a little throttle and I pass 4 cars in nothing flat and change lanes. Uh oh, one of them was a cop, but he doesn't seem to care. Pull back in and park, but wish I could keep it for a day. I don't know if I would want it for my daily rider, but it's definitely on my list. Comfort and speed aren't the only reasons I ride. I like the feel and sound that cruisers have and the Wing doesn't, but I think I could get used to it pretty quick.
  16. I was at the local Honda/Yamaha dealers the other day. A young salesman came over and started up a conversation. He asked what kind of bikes we were interested in (Karen was with me), we said "touring bikes" and he walked us right by a new Venture to a Goldwing. He started telling us about the power, comfort, handling and new features of the 2010 model. I was interested and listened, and I asked about the Venture. He said that nobody much was interested in it because it was so heavy and didn't have the handling of the GW. He didn't even look at it, much less walk us toward it like he did the wing. I told him I rode a Tour deluxe, and that they rode and handled pretty good, but all he said was that he could knock off a couple of thousand if I was interested in it. It just doesn't create much excitement when it never changes.
  17. I think it's worth it too. That's a pretty color and low mileage.
  18. I went from Bridgestones to E3s and my roar went away. I was pleasantly surprised, as I wasn't expecting to lose the roar. After they were about half wore out some of the roar returned, but nothing like you describe.
  19. No, I looked at it more closely and it looks like it may have hit something on the edge. I may try it anyway.
  20. I thought I'd kick this back to the top again. I'm still looking. Surely someone here knows where one is.
  21. I'm not crazy about the way those lowers are attached. I ended up breaking the tabs off of them, when I was taking them off.
  22. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVJXtYoGk9I]YouTube- Assembly of a Goldwing[/ame]
  23. I started a thread about my experience test riding a new Ultra. I was pleasantly surprised at the smoothness of the ride. What I said about the RSV is that Yamaha seems to have no interest in updating anything on it. The cassette deck is like an insult to loyal Venture riders. What other vehicle in the world still has a cassette deck? Harley looks the same, but there are lots of changes every year. Some of the changes in the last few years are six speed transmission, larger CI engine, better frame, re-routed exhaust. These are the changes I know about, and I know very little about Harleys. Venture changes in the last 10 years, color? Now on the other hand I think the Venture is a prettier bike, it comes standard with cruise, CB radio, intercom, free 5 year warranty. All these are options on a Harley. I looked at HD rider forums, and guys were talking about having to tear into the engine for this reason or that. I've never heard of anyone on this forum having to go into the engine for anything. If you sit Idling very long on a Harley you'll probably vibrate a few fillings from your teeth. I'm not pro Harley and con RSV, I was just stating the obvious frustration that some here have felt that Yamaha offers nothing to entice anyone to buy a new model. Why not buy a 2001? It's exactly the same, and they never seem to wear out. Peace, Jim T.
  24. Looks kind of like a Mustang to me.
  25. We had ridden a new UC last month. This one is a 2006, and it seems to have more vibration. It shakes like crazy sitting still, and smooths out a lot when you get going, but there was still a lot of vibration in the foot boards. My wife even noticed it in the passenger boards.
