  1. Wow, little black lines everywhere. That's even worse than the snow.
  2. This guy has hidden his site registration behind a proxy. Check out the Whois Record (bottom left) for milwaukeeleatheroutlet.com. It's a private registration through Domains By Proxy. Seems odd for a company to make it harder for customers to find it. Most don't. On the other hand it might actually be in the mail.
  3. I suspect the part you're seeing is the nut that attaches the fitting on the end of the wire to the bracket. (Part 40, spacer, on the Yamaha parts fiche.) The antenna's folding base simply screws into the fitting molded onto the end of the wire. The fitting fits into a slot in the bracket on the side of the bike. The nut attaches the fitting to the bracket. No washer. The nuts won't come off unless you remove the wires from the bike. You should be able to screw the whole thing back together and be done.
  4. Sounds like a DiamondR. The Utopia doesn't use the passenger seat bolts. If the original bolts don't fit anymore, clearly the blind nuts are no longer doing the job. The part appears to be about $17. Personally, I'd go for it.
  5. I chose the DiamondR because of the way it attaches. No drilling involved. It shares the passenger seat bolts (longer bolts supplied).

Another nice article, Nick! Thanks for posting the link.
  7. Well said.
  8. Nor here, though I guess I shoulda' used some smilies. Almost seriously, though, I'm thinking a Third Gen needs Squeeze's engine, not some hamster wheel with a penguin munching on a Granny Smith, burping butterfly parts.
  9. Funny, that's what I usually tell people when they ask why I've never used Microsoft products on my own hardware. Why would I want a toy OS? I mean seriously, you have to buy your own compiler! Linux has never ever had a virus in the wild. Oh, and the compiler comes with it. Third Gen?
  10. The middle pic in my first post in this thread shows the manufacture date as 3207. I put it on during the last week of 0608. I removed it with cracks 0309. Aside from the cracks the tire looks almost new.
  11. Keep an eye on the Meet & Eat area. Jethroish is planning one for April 25. There are several of us who try to organize 'em. We'll be tickled if you can join us.
  12. I'm certainly not trying to speak out against Avons, but rather, as Red Ryder said, speaking out on behalf of frequent and thorough inspections, particularly at the beginning of a season. I replaced both tires with new Avons. I'm on my third Avon rear, second front. The rear in the photos is the only one that has cracked. The front, which was two seasons old, had very minor checking between lugs. It had no cracks. The bike gets bagged up in a semi-enclosed carport during the winter. The tires are somewhat subject to weather, inflated, and bearing the weight of the bike - all basically wrong for storage. Still, none of the others have ever done anything like this. Right now I'm suspecting batch issues. So, regular inspections guys! One just never knows what to expect.
  13. I'll be able to keep a watchful eye on mine as it's leaned up against the wall.
  14. This is what I found when I went out to do my pre-first-ride-of-the-season-inspection. There are more, but these are the most dramatic. If I'm remembering the prior converstations properly the middle pic has the manufacture date. I put this one on in July of last year. Plenty of tread left. As if...
  15. There's also Dreyer Motorsport on West Washington. They have more aftermarket stuff than most dealers.
  16. Well, there's Cycle Outfitters, 5501 Madison Avenue, Idiot-noplace. They don't sell bikes, just bike related gear. I've gotten quite a bit of stuff there over the years. Buckets, rain gear, brake pads, tires, a sticker that says "It don't hurt till the bone shows". Not large but well packed.
  17. My music player also had low volume issues. I noticed that it has a built in software equalizer. All that does is turn everything down some so the listener can turn selected parts of it up. I turned all the individual frequencies up to max. Volume out is about the same as the radio now.
  18. Tried it. Nope, didn't work.
  19. Sold. I kind of doubt they'll go after the cruiser market again, but still, put me down for one. I never actually needed the fake fins anyway.
  20. Three weeks ago I got a set of Avons from SWMT. I ordered 'em Thursday afternoon. They were here Monday evening. Seemed about normal to me. For SWMT, that is.
  21. Sounds like time for fronts. I got the Eclipse models and really like 'em.
  22. Pretty much the same speed as an incandescent setup when one's burned out. Most folks who comment tell me I have a bulb out. I'd suggest trying it first. It's easy enough to add something later.
  23. So why not just let 'em flash fast? I do. People notice. Isn't that the point?
  24. If you go west through Nebraska, look at 20 west out of Casper, through Wind River Canyon and up to Cody, then across the Chief Joseph and Beartooth into Red Lodge, or Billings as a route up toward Glacier. I've never made it to Glacier. I fell in love with the Beartooth and haven't been able to get past it. Someday...
  25. Then there's this writeup on how to go down to one firestick for both radios.
