Squeeze, I suspect it's a US vs Europe thing. The European site has it as VMAX the US site has it as V-Max. I'm not the primary maintainer of the V-Max/VMAX site so I'm going to leave it alone. Seems safer. Great looking VMAX, but that's very not stock. Which is a good thing, of course. I've always loved the Max, but Irene likes to ride on the back... Maybe someday. I should probably wait and see how my additions are greeted before I get too carried away. I don't want to wind up in an undo war with anyone.

I understand. I'm not exactly an oldtimer myself. I welcome the additions, I'd just like to keep it as smooth as reasonably possible. Some while back someone from the Delphi site added their info and hacked it to shreds. Part of it got dropped into the middle of another paragraph. I smoothed it back out when they didn't come back, but I made sure it was there so they wouldn't feel shorted on the deal. It's a Wiki, so it's open to everyone.

Squeeze, I added your info to the V-Max/VMAX page. You might want to check and make sure I got it right. I'm going to stick with V-Max for now because of this page. I'm looking for a nice picture of the bike, not the intake. As I said, their image is probably ripped from Yamaha's site. Now, if you have a nice pic of a Max, perhaps yours could be the one they use... If you want to give it a shot let me know and I can upload a pic for you if you'd like. By the way, I'm afraid my German is limited to what the average sailor would learn. Not real useful if you know what I mean. I studied French in school and am no good with that due to a severe lack of use over the years. Typical "American" I'm afraid.

I'm laid off from Navistar's Powerstroke Diesel plant in Indy. Might get called back this week, might not. The President of the company got a $2 million bonus for coming up with the company slogan. "Bold." Seriously, that's the stupidest @*% thing I've ever heard. Which is a very bold thing to say. Probably not what they had in mind. On the other hand the Union has spent years protecting old timers who find a corner and sleep. They're still trying to get rid of one of 'em in my shop (powerhouse). On the other other hand it's really hard to compete with people who make $10 a week and pay a penny for a gallon of milk. Oh, and no, I don't get $77 an hour even with benefits. We're just a parts supplier so we're way below that. (Don't we wish.)

You're welcome, and thanks for the post. Many thanks from me and mine to all the others who have served, and are serving.

Not stupid, just dedicated. As to the Masochist thing, well, we're not in a position to address that. Sorry we missed it all, but we just couldn't get away. Maybe next time. At least you made it home safe and sound.

Squeeze, it looks like the original was the V-Max and the new one is the VMAX. That's even the way they're spelled on the Yamaha web sites. I corrected the timeline template to reflect the VMAX spelling rather than the V-Max II spelling. It might take a little bit for that one to refresh throughout the system. Could it be that there was a different spelling in the European market? There is a note in the V-Max discussion section indicating that the first V-Maxes into Europe didn't have V-Boost. Know anything about that? Also, they're looking for a picture they can use. Right not it looks like they have one ripped from Yamaha's site, which they'll probably eventually have to take down. Got a pic you'd like to put in its place? I think they're still looking. They're also looking for a technical write up on V-Boost. Does this sound right? V-Boost is a system of valves in the air intake that opens at 50% throttle allowing two carbeuretors to feed each cylinder on its intake stroke. Also, if I remember correctly the new VMAX uses a system that shortens the air intake horns inside the airbox by raising extension horns away from the fixed horns. Know anything about that?

I'm happy with the position. It's not really line of site, but nothing short of a heads up display would be. It's certainly more noticeable than my Cruisader radar detector display which is mounted on the handlebars. Good thing the Cruisader has an LED that's mounted between the windshield vent and the top of the dash, otherwise I'd never notice it.

Any chance I can get you to merge those into the appearance section, since it's been partly covered there? I would have mentioned this on your Wiki user talk page, but you haven't started one and it's not really apropriate for me to start one for you. If you'd like you can go to the history tab, click on my name, and see how mine's formatted. I ripped the design off from another editor, who ripped it off from another editor, etc. Once you have a User page we can chat stuff like this up there, as is the normal practice. If you go to the Yamaha Venture page you'll find all the pages I've put together that are about the V-4 based Yamahas, aside from the V-Max, which already had a page. Happy editing.

I started out modifying two existing pages. Now I'm maintaining five. Getting carried away? Well, maybe.

RSTD owners, I could use a couple of nice pics for the Wiki page. Midnight Venture owners, I could use a pic. Preferably with the studded seats. Royal Star owners, I need one more pic to go with the one I expect to get from Pegscraper. 1024x768 or larger preferred. The final image must be released to the public domain so that it can be displayed on Wikipedia. If you're interested let me know and I'll send you my email address. Anyone, if you can find issues with the pages linked to from here let me know so I can fix 'em. Thanks everyone.

I too have a Baron's tach, same as what SaltyDawg linked to. I got the reservoir mount. It sits on top of my front brake reservoir. I really like it. I see a tach as a gotta-have accessory on the RSV.

Folks, I think I'm good on First Gen images. Thanks guys.

Thanks Squeeze. I'm trying to maintain a bit of balance. I want to mention what makes them unique without letting the world know I'm completely prejudiced about these bikes.

I'm still working on proper turn of phrase. It's one thing to chat casually like on here, it's another thing altogether to put a suit and tie on it. I tend to whip the whole thing out then dress it up from there. It started with a couple of basic paragraphs that Freebird posted so there'd be something. I added the formatting and a lot of the details. It's a work in progress. Bear in mind that anyone can register to be a Wikipedia editor and edit almost any page they want. There's been a bit of back and forth over the Clubs section. Part of what I'm trying to do is include everyone so nobody feels a need to add themselves in the wrong place and mess the whole thing up, as has happened in the past. I'm working on a complete Yamaha V-4 based series. I'm adding the Royal Star now. I'll add the RSTD, but it'll take a little time. I'll be more than happy to accept a couple of pics of the RSTD also, but right now there isn't even a page to put 'em on. Of course, if you want to sign up and add it that's certainly ok too. I didn't create the timeline. It's a template that I've been working on correcting. You'll note it doesn't go back beyond 1990 which leaves out the MK1 First Gens altogether. I can add the RSTD, but as always, time and knowledge play their parts.

That's kind of a shame, but I'm sure we all understand. I'd like to have Jay Leno's garage - well I guess more importantly money. Think of the motorcycle annex...

You're absolutely right. No slippage. I didn't think of that, just went with the common term. I'll work on it. Thanks.

Another reason to regret not being able to make it. First I miss all the blood, sweat, and tears, and now there are ice cream rules! Is it more complicated than "If you want to eat sherbert or sorbet you have to eat a scoop of Superman ice cream first"? I learned that one at the Dessert First M&E. It's a pretty rough rule too.

Ok guys, I can use one more. Looking for a late model MK2, say 91 to 93 if possible.

Squeeze: How about checking the paragraph I added to the History section when you get a chance. Make sure it's what you meant. I had remembered the order somewhat differently. For some reason I thought the V-Max engine was first. Doing some research to work on the page I found out I was wrong.

I'm also looking for the LIT number for the First Gen Service Manual. I have one but can't find it right now. I'd like to use it as part of the reference structure. For some reason paper sources seem to make the senior editors happier than using all internet based references.

Ideally I'd like a quarter view. Check my pic on the RSV page. This shows the front end slightly as well as a good view of the side. I also need a statement that the pic is released into the public domain. If you want you can type up a caption, just keep in mind it has to fit in with the Encyclopedia nature of the site. Again, I can't use a bunch at this time. I don't know if a whole slideshow would be welcomed. Looking for a nice MKII also. PM me and I'll send you my email address if you're interested.

Squeeze: I'll do my best. You'll have to check up on me after I've edited it to make sure I phrased things properly. I know a lot about these things, but not everything by a long shot. Don: Thanks. I'm very glad to help out the community. As an added plus I'm hoping that by adding detailed info the stuff about the clubs will remain without hassles from the upper level editors. GS51: You have a PM.

Hi folks, I've been editing the Wikipedia Venture and RSV pages. I'm getting ready to bring the Venture page up to the style of the RSV page. As such I'm looking for a good pic (1024x768 res or better) of each Mk of the First Gen to put on the page. The pic has to be yours and you have to release it into the public domain. At this point I really only need two. I might be able to get away with one of each year, though I'm not sure how the senior editors feel about that sort of thing. Now you could do this yourself, but you have to do a minimum number of edits before you're allowed to post pics. Naturally corrective edits are welcome on either page. It's not like I own 'em or anything. I'm just trying to keep them in the same basic layout as the RSV one since it's similar to most of the other more established Wikipedia pages. I'm hoping that changing the page to a more Encyclopedic format will put an end to the battles over the adverts for the web sites that Freebird found when he first started the pages. (Thanks for starting them Don.) Anyone interested?
