  1. I just ordered an HJC FS-15 Carbon in red. Web Bike World gave it a favorable review. At $414 it's not cheap, but it's not as expensive as some of the Shoei and Arai ff helmets that weigh more. From what I've read early carbon fiber helmets had delamination problems. I'm under the impression that has been resolved. Sure hope so, since I'm getting one.
  2. Squeeze, I missed this post the first time around. Wow. Man I love those things. If Irene didn't want to be on the back... I've lusted after a Max for years, but that thing just upped the ante on mean. One thing you have to promise us: Don't ever say "Hey y'all watch this."
  3. Make that three for the Baron's reservoir mount tach.
  4. That whack on his head must have been worse than we thought.
  5. Forty times as much stirring as DSL. Wow.
  6. Nobody stirs a pot better, Bill.
  7. Glad to help.
  8. Not my taste either, but you can't get much more radical than actually needing a tiger nose headlight. I'm daydreaming about a subtle lace job in very very very dark red or black around the edges of my Black Cherry '06. Bodice lace over the headlight. Tramp stamp under the wing. Play up that sexiest color aspect.
  9. Seems like if it has the buttons it should have the compressor. From memory and it's been a while: Put the bike on the center stand. Key on, but not running. Press Front. Medium. The compressor under the trunk should make some noise. Rear. Medium. Compressor sounds again. Ride. Ok? No, do it again trying either High or Low as seems needed. You can also do it in manual, but I'd suggest starting in auto to get a feel for it. Ok current First Genners, how'd I do?
  10. Nope. Run a nice fat wire/wires from the bolt to the positive side of the battery. Insulate the bolt (the one on mine is pretty long). I used shrink tubing. It's facing down, behind the battery, in my pic. Plug the power wire to the device onto one of the lugs. Add a fuse to the matching spot on the fuse block. Ground the device itself where ever it is convenient. There is no grounding being done on the fuse block. You don't even need to bring the ground all the way back there. Just ground it to a solid frame ground point.
  11. Check this paint job out.
  12. Woops. That was Advance Auto Parts. They're in the electrical stuff area.
  13. I got one like that for maybe six bucks at Autozone. Works great. Highly recommended.
  14. Thanks for the update, Don. We're glad things are going well, and we hope it continues that way!
  15. I was going to poo poo this as silly until it occurred to me that this may well turn into the wheel chair for the hot rod generation. Way better than my Mom's Rascal scooter. I can see the entire Baby Boomer generation tearing up the sidewalks at the old folks homes in those things.
  16. Anybody tried Avons on the V-Star 650? My sister has a soloed Silverado and it's tire time. I'm looking for proper sizes. Best I can tell she'd need the MT90B16 for the front. Thoughts?

    Helmet Help

I'd like to suggest webBikeWorld's helmet page as an info source. They have extensive reviews of quite a few helmets.
  18. Which is almost as good a deal as the chrome radiator.
  19. I don't think he 'Shopped it. Looks like a poor camera shooting toward the light from the garage door. That's just glare. (Not to suggest it isn't convenient glare.)
  20. Yep. Technically the pinch bolt is listed at 16.6, but my torque wrench doesn't adjust quite that fine. 17 should do nicely. The service manual is available in the tech section. Note that the pinch bolt torque spec is listed in the reassembly text, not on the picture with the rest of the torque/lube info.
  21. Hi Owl, where ya' been?
  22. I'm sure glad to hear it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Get well soon, James and Angie!
  23. Fastest shmastest. Black Cherry is unquestionably the sexiest color. Isn't that what really counts?

    LEDs and Strobe

Ken, I'm wondering which part is illegal in Ohio. I've done similar stuff to my bike. I'm not going to change anything, mind you, but I like to know what laws I'm breaking. Old habit.
  25. Wow. Are you sure? Not that it couldn't be done, but it would require a lot of work to yield very little. How about checking the wire that comes out of the bottom of the antenna that has the black load in the middle. It should route into a black box under the trunk. The plain one should route forward and under the passenger seat. (Just wondering.)
