  1. Irene and I went to top of Pike's Peak, Mount Evans, and Trail Ridge Road during the Ft. Collins rally. We also did The Beartooth on that trip. We had absolutely no problems. The bike was weaker at 13 and 14k elevations, but ran fine and idled well in the parking lots. The only real problem I've ever had from a Venture (first or second) in the tall mountains was from the clutch hydraulic system on my first gen. My fault. The fluid was old and needed changed. A flush took care of it.
  2. Here are a few shots. There'll be more later when I work with the ones Emma took. The second pic is of a tractor tour through Parke County.
  3. Diamond R. No drilling.
  4. Wow. Sorry to hear about the losses. Glad to hear about your Dad. I hope he keeps it up. We hope to see you guys somewhere between Co and Mn.
  5. I have a thing for the Baron's 4-2-4s (without the Jewel tips). I love the look of the four exhaust pipes sticking out the back. I haven't gotten them yet, but hey, those are the pipes I'm lusting for.
  6. Hi Scott, Glad to help - any time. It was nice meeting you and Rachael. After you guys left I got to wondering if the vacuum port's even clear. I shoulda checked. Homer moment, I suppose.
  7. Beautiful job, Scott!
  8. Well, there's a Tour Deluxe and a Tourdeluxe. If you start with the Yamaha Venture page you'll find links to Yamaha Venture Royale, Yamaha Royal Star (including the Tourdeluxe), Yamaha Royal Star Venture, and Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe.
  9. Don (Freebird) started it off. I took it and tried to expand, organize, and add references so that it wouldn't wind up purged. (They have a Wikipedia isn't a personal blog philosophy.) Some of the club stuff has been purged in the past. I try to keep it from sounding like an advert so the club section can remain. Here's the root link for all the Yamaha Venture stuff. By the way, one and all, a Wikipedia page is really never done. Got something to add? Feel free. I'm trying to make it look respectable, but I certainly don't own it. Just keep in mind that if we get too brazen about the club stuff it'll be purged by Wikipedia's moderation staff. I'm just one of a bazillion editors. All you gotta do for that is sign up. No power or authority goes with it. Got something you'd like me to add or correct? Just let me know and I'll see what I can do. Wikipedia mark-up is pretty simple, but that sort of thing isn't everyone's cup of tea.
  10. I certainly understand your concerns, Al. The weird stuff can be pretty disconcerting. And troubling to deal with at times. FWIW I've learned to turn off the modulator when I'm in a group of riders. I don't really like to have one behind me either. On the other hand, if I'm leading, it's on.
  11. I've been running a modulator since spring '06 and it's happened a lot. I no longer laugh all that much. Some simply move over a lane, while a few have pulled off the road and stopped. My concern is that once they figure out I'm not a LEO they'll get upset. I don't need a POed cager chasing me down the road. It doesn't help that the other day I saw a Trooper in an unmarked Mustang hanging some paper. His headlights were modulating. Together. I was under the impression that we have to modulate synchronized because only LEOs can have headlights that flash in an alternating pattern. So here's one that modulates in sync. Great. Like everybody isn't confused enough already. No matter. I still run the modulator. I also have a modulator on my passing lamps that's activated by the horn button along with air horns, and a set of extra loud electrics. Can you tell I've been run over by someone who said he didn't see me? Next one's gonna have to say the flashing lights blinded him.
  12. I'm on the west side of Indy at 10th and 465. It's been a while since I've done a first gen, but even at that it shouldn't take more than a few minutes. I work on Thursday (it's my Monday), but I'll be home by about 3:30. Irene's off that day. You're more than welcome, if it works for you.
  13. Lonna, There'll be one on the truck this evening as soon as I get home from work. Thanks a million! (Ahhhhh relief.)
  14. How about this? They also have quite a few helmet reviews, info on helmet sizes and head shapes, and a whole lot more.
  15. Nick, Another great essay. Thanks very much for the link.
  16. Magnification didn't help me any.
  17. This post shows a variation of the "Marshall Mod". I changed to a single Firestik antenna for both radios. Cost about $75 or so. A new antenna from Yamaha lists for $180. It would cost less to replace both antennas with Firestiks.
  18. JT, you have nothing to apologize for. You're supposed to be a basket case right now. Take all the time you need to put yourself back together. Just make sure you're still here, somewhere. We'll wait.
  19. Three, for sure. Four, maybe.
  20. Great pics guys! Thanks for sharing! The Grand Canyon's one place Irene and I have never made it to. Every time I see pics the itch builds. Oh, and how 'bout that road in #2215. I mean, sure, burros and all that, but a guy can dream...
  21. Great video. Better than mine. I pulled the classic noob ultra beginner mistake. Lenscap. Any other time I wouldn't be able to keep it on the thing. Oh well. Next time.
  22. No large test or anything, I was riding with Indydog and couldn't hear him. He turned his intercom volume up and I could. I don't really know if he repositioned his mic or anything else. Looks like I'll have some testing to do this Saturday on the M&E.
  23. Push the middle button on the audio head until you see IC. Turn it up. Intercom volume affects CB output volume.
  24. These guys say they'll ship worldwide.
  25. How about plastic film like this stuff?
