  1. Got no advice for you, but hey, good luck. Sounds like fun.
  2. My first real motorcycle was a 1972 Suzuki T350J. I picked it up a year old to get around on the 'beach' while I was in the Navy.
  3. Thanks Owl, the comment and the tune are much appreciated. Maddabber - well said.

I did pretty much what Squidley did inside the fairing, but I ran my wire all the way back and through the rubber plug to the right of the mesh bag on the floor of the trunk. I also bought a car charger for my music player. I took apart the cigarette lighter part and wired it to the battery using a relay activated fuse block and placed it under the seat. I ran the wire into the trunk with the audio wire. I have a reservoir mounted switch box that I use to turn the charger on and off. I left about a foot of wire inside the trunk. Both wires are connected to an adapter because that's the way my player is designed. When I want to use the player I plug the adapter into the player and hold it there using a couple of pieces of good old duck tape, one on each side, to keep it attached. I turn it on, pick the playlist I want to use, then simply drop it into the mesh bag. I use a Cowon iAUDIO player. It has a 30 gig hard drive. The drive contains pretty much all the music I have with some room left over. Because the player is loosely mounted the vibration that might kill the drive is not transferred directly to the player. Since it is placed vertically in the mesh bag the motion that does get to it tends to shake it in the direction that the drive heads are made to move in. Rather than hammering the heads against the platters it just skips. Since it's has a motion compensation system like what's been around in portable CDs for years it takes several good jars to actually skip. Way better than the CD player they sell for the bike. I can't control the player from the audio pod on the handlebars, but I have several playlists I prepared using the computer and copied to the player. Each is over eight hours long, and contains music Irene and I like to listen to. The player is set to loop. I just turn it on and ride. I don't turn it off for short stops, though I will if we're stopping for a longer time - at a restaurant for example. Naturally, since it's on the AUX line I can still control volume. This was harder to explain than to do. It's been to the top of Pike's Peak, which is a very rough road, and throughout much of Indiana, which can be pretty rough in places. I've had no problems. In the two and a half years I've been using this system all I've ever had to do is replace the duck tape that keeps the player and adapter plugged together.
  5. Yamaha will have to either quit producing the Venture or make some major changes soon. The next round of EPA regs kick in for the '10 model year. Pretty much everything sold in the US will have to be fuel injected. Personally, I'm expecting the 3rd Gen to be out in the tail end of '09. I'm guessing it'll be more like the 1st Gen with a version of the new V-Max engine. Frame mounted fairing and all that. The 1st Gen was aimed at the Goldwing, Voyager, Cavlacade, and it whupped butt there. The 2nd Gen was aimed at the HD luxury cruiser market, and it whups butt there. I think the 3rd Gen will be aimed back at the Wing, and the BMW LT market, and will whup butt there too. Or I could be completely wrong. But I don't think so.
  6. There are definately some good ones in there.
  7. Indiana's been pushing early voting to avoid long lines. Yesterday the line at the City County building was not just out the door, but it was three blocks long.
  8. Say what you will about Al Gore, if Global Warming (aka Global Climate Change) means a longer riding season it's not all bad. (Now don't anybody go having a stroke. It's just an attempt at humor.)
  9. Mine does it a lot and I basically agree with Goose. The wires, particularly the one to the passenger headset, run right past the coils in the neck. I messed around up under the tank, including installing a tach, and made it worse. Next time I have the tank off I'm going to play with the wires and see if I can get it to go away. I guess that'll be the good side of the coming cold season. In the mean time, if you do not use the CB, turn down the intercom. That'll shut it up. I've also noticed that it's not as bad when the passenger headset is plugged in, even with the intercom turned up.
  10. Poor bighug. He's so misunderstood. Ok, seriously, I don't mind the animated gifs on here all that much since I can usually scroll past them pretty quickly. On the other hand, I absolutely hate animated gifs and flash adverts on regular web pages.
  11. This link is essentially the marshall mod, with pics, plus the single antenna conversion. It might help some.
  12. It does seem like a good idea, Lynn.

  14. 6001! It just keeps on going.
  15. Pass along Irene and my congratulations to Matt. Also, congratulations to you for a job well done.
  16. Somewhere there's a guy with half the handle to his lawn mower missing.
  17. OUCH! Good luck with healing quickly. It's got to be rough spending eighteen weeks sitting on an inflatable donut. You've given me an all new respect for stairways.
  18. Very nice. You have every right to be proud.
  19. Any chance you're using the same software Condor is?
  20. If it bothers you enough you might consider trying a different browser just to see if it does it too. Both Firefox and Opera are free for the download. In case you don't already know, Opera is where all the good ideas in browsing have been coming from for a while. It is standards compliant, so some badly written sites that work in IE won't work properly in Opera, but I'll trade that for tabbed browsing and mouse gestures any day. FWIW Firefox also does tabbed browsing now and it isn't as picky about proper coding as Opera. Just a thought.
  21. I've had no site problems at all. Due to the odd hours kept around here I am rarely able to use chat (not much fun when you're the only one chatting), so I can't address that one. Condor, sounds like yours may be a browser issue. Since reading your post I've tried to get the browser I use to do that. Even after going to multiple links, then returning, what you describe hasn't happened. I even went to another board running on the same software and when I came back everything was still here. Note that I am using the Opera Browser and do not even have IE on my computer.
  22. I'm saddened to learn of your family's loss. They become so much a part of us.

    doing well

Glad to hear things are going well. Keep it up.
  24. At least you got to keep the case.
  25. Congratulations!
