  1. When I put new tires on last spring, I took the the wheels to Costco and they were happy to "nitroginize" them, N/C. I thought I was doing something really high tec and cool. Maybe it reduces the hot tire pressure increase by a pound or two but it probably wasn't worth the trouble:confused24:
  2. When you get the new plug, drill a hole crossways through the head for a lock wire. I wired mine last change. Makes me feel better and you don't feel like you have to give it that last little tweek of torque and risk stripping the case.
  3. Ah yes, I remember living in PA. Great riding if you like rain, snow, frost, Ice etc.
  4. Don't know if I would name a bike Killacycle but I guess Ampacycle just doesn't have that ring to it
  5. Both times I have had the rear wheel off, I removed the trunk and fender. Took about 2 hours first time and only an hour the second time. Sure makes the wheel easy and gives you a chance to clean everything really good. Call me a little anal but I don't trust my Harbor Junk jack that much
  6. Changing gears probably won't fix it completely but good loud tunes and a set of earplugs sure helps. I was real disappointed with my "04" but I have gotten used to it.
  7. Wierd? Exactly opposite of my "04". I have heard that 3/8" is within spec:confused24: I could not come up with a good way to correct it so I have gotten used to it I guess. Bike feels good and tracks straight. (at least in my mind) I had checked my 02 1100 Vstar and it was right on. Maybe we worry too much! Gary
  8. I too have painstakingly checked the alignment with a straight edge. A lot of guys here didn't get the concept, Just like setting the rear wheel on the old dirt bike with a string. You mentioned off 3/4 inch. I take this to mean that the front wheel sits 3/8" off to one side. Strange but this is exactly what I came up with when I checked my "04". After I got it last Feb. it always seemed like it was headed off to one side. Strangely enough the right. Now the big question, My front wheel is off 3/8"to the left of the rear. How about yours?
  9. Good Job:thumbsup: Now the fun begins, Theres lots more goodies to add!
  10. I used JC to ship my 04 from TN to Albuquerque in Feb after I bought it on Ebay. They did an excellent job. Cost $790.00. When it got here there was a small chip on the trunk spoiler/wing. I submitted a claim for $269.00 to replace the part and I had a check in 2 weeks, no questions asked. Highly recommended.
  11. She is a grand older lady and hate to see her leave the cruise world. I had many clients travel on her over the years and totally enjoyed the history and charm of her. There is a cruise out there for every budget and lifestyle.
  12. Same thing happened to me. Don't panic, They are just a little corroded. Squirt a (little) W-D in around the piston, then take a small C-clamp and try to gently squeeze the piston in. Be careful that it does not push the other pistons out of the bores. I use 2 aluminum plates a little smaller than the pads to push on the pistons as a pair. Work them back and forth a few times and wipe off the excess and you should be good to go. Don't think a little W-D will have any effect on the seals. Good luck!!
  13. Same here. Put a little aluminum plug in the end and "gently" tapped it back in to seat it. Has been fine since. Didn't use any sealer or sitckem.
  14. Whatever it was, I gotta put wheelie bars on the Winnebago:hihi:

    Outa-here

Just got back from southern CO. Six Harleys and one Venture. I rode sweep so I could pick up all the parts:whistling: http://www.cycletownusa.com/HarleyInetcycletown.htm
  16. Here's my , The oil filter has a check valve inside to keep the oil from draining back into the sump when the engine is off. Full filter and oil lines = no valve noise. When the oil drains back to the sump it is going to take a few seconds to fill the system again. I have noticed that this quirk is worse when you stray from the Yamaha filter. I am in the habit of opening all my filters after an oil change and you would be surprised in the difference of the construction of the valve and media. Yamaha uses a plastic foam type media, not paper and a much better looking check valve than some of the others. Just did an oil change to the new Yamalube 20-50 Does not help this problem but seems helps the clutch wine some. PS. can't believe Yamalube isn't in the spell check:think:
  17. Just installed an 8 terminal block in the fairing for passing lamps air horn and whatever I add later. I mounted it on the left side of the black box (radio) that sits on top of the headlight. Fabricated an aluminum mounting plate that used the 2 existing screws. It is a close fit to the top of the fairing inside. I powered it with a #10 wire from the battery. Follow the pos battery cable to the other end under the side cover. Remove the screw there and attach with a good terminal ring. This is a good place for the fuse. I used a watertight 20amp. There is also a good ground strap on the bottom of the radio that goes to the frame right by the coolant fill. With all that power in front ya need to be careful about running grounds through the steering head bearings.
  18. I picked up a Wolo Bad Boy at Harbor Junk a couple months ago and could never figure out where to mount it. It's the crappy looking black one, not the chrome one. What I finally did was remove the compressor from the horn (slips right off) then cut off the plastic clamps that hold the OD of the compressor. Then mount the compressor inside the fairing. I tucked it in behind the wiring harness to the left of the headlight with a fabricated bracket and a hose clamp. Tap the inlet of the plastic horn 1/8" NPT and get a 5/16 brass barb fitting @ the local hdw. store along with 3' of 5/16 vinyl tubing. Remove the front stock horn from inside the left lower fairing and cut off half of the mounting tab from the tip over bar leaving one nut in case you ever want to chance back. Then do a little creative carving on the black plastic piece that covers the front horn until the bad boy fits. Snap the plastic covers off of the diaphrams for more clearance. Then run the tubing from the compressor to the horn and wire in your relay. Now that I look at this it sure seems like a pain in the butt. It was. Actually a whole morning but the results were worth it. You can still use the rear stock horn or one mounted in it's place and you can't see this mod at all. Sorry now that I didn't take pictures of the progress. That could be a whole other half day job.
  19. Ouch!! Sorry to hear when one of us has Murphy catch up to them. Rest and heal, you'll be in our thoughts.
  20. Harbor junk changers work pretty good with a few modifications. Never could get the center post to work like it is supposed to either. All this talk about tire lube I've even heard of spraying beads with nonstick cooking spray??? Napa sells a gallon of actual tire mounting lubricant for $7.99. Some As for tire irons, these work greathttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCLE-ASSORTED-TIRE-IRON-IRONS-LEVER-SPOON-CURVE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a552Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1318QQhashZitem330257232506QQitemZ330257232506
  21. Knew a guy that burned down his house after he pulled his scooter in the garage, closed the door and forgot about it. Float stuck, overflowed, water heater ignited it. I have always been in the habit of turning the fuel off when I stop.
  22. Didn't wear a helmet much when I was younger (and dumber). Guess my head is softer now. I'm too paranoid to run to the hardware store up the street with a naked head.
  23. Pete, I'm in Albuquerque. The bike shops are closed today but if they are really bad give me a call, ride down this morning and we will take the pads off of mine and put them on your's. Not a big deal at all. mine are not in great shape but they would get you home. Gary 505-344-2469
  24. Yep, looks like mine. After it's mounted. you will be the only one that notices it.
  25. Gotta agree with Red rider, I built my utility trailer 15 years ago. Have checked them but never repacked them. If they were packed right and the seals are in good shape and the caps fit good and it hasn't been submerged and the end play is correct you should be good to go. Put your hand on the hub after about 50 mi. If it's cool or barely warm it's good.
