  1. I was at my local dealer where I bought my Venture,Honda/Yamaha of FT. Walton, to have some warranty work done. (crack in left lower faring ) I noticed they had a set of chrome breather covers for a venture hanging on their showroom wall. This is the ones that set in between the cylinders at the bottom. I think these are discontinued. I already have a set on mine. I did not see a price, but I would suspect it would be suggested retail. If I remember right, they were between $80 to $100.Any way, here is their phone # for any one that is interested.850-862-4622 or 850-863-2346.
  2. I use Meguiers NXT wax. I say wax, but it is a silicone polymer that bonds to the metal to keep out the impurities that can cause the parts to degrade. I have an American flag on my house and the pole to the flag rusted really bad. The next one I purchased,I decided to use some of the wax on it.6 months later, it still doesn't have any rust on it. I use it on the whole bike, including the windshield. It beads water like Rain X but does not hurt the shield. It makes the paint so slick, it looks wet, and helps hide any hairline scratches. It makes the bugs easier to get off of the front of the bike too.I use it about twice a month on the whole bike, and all my chrome looks as good as new. Oh, I have about $4,000 in accessories on my bike and worked really hard and saved to be able to have it the way that it is now.I want them to last. Not to mention that most all the accessories have been discontinued and are no longer being made. Meguiers NXT is available at most auto parts stores and Wal-Mart.It is usually between $15 to $16. A bottle will last a pretty good while,a little goes a long way. It's also easy to put on and easy to get off.
  3. I have read a lot of the posts on this subject and have not seen a direct question or answer on this subject, so here goes. Most say that the 83 to 85 1st generation is the fastest of all the Ventures at 1200cc. So my question is this. What has to be changed to get the hp of the 83 to 85 models in a 2nd gen? I know the gearing is different, and a lot of people change to a v-max rear end. I'm talking about just hp and torque increases. I've heard about swapping to v-max cams, but would like to know what all would need to be changed, how much of an increase could be expected, and if it is worth the money involved to warrant it. I know that Pegscraper has done a lot with his early model Royal Star, and was wondering if any one with a 2nd gen had tried some of the same things. I would like to know what the differences are and how to get, at least close, to the 1st gen hp and performance and approximately how much it would cost with 100cc more to work with.
  4. I hope that one year I would be able to make MD and learn from knowledgable people on some of the more complicated procedures that are sometimes needed on this bike.I know that every one has a good time, but it would be great for the rest of us that can't make it if someone would picture document some of the procedures, step by step,to put in the Tech library. There was mention of a valve clearance check, setting floats in the carbs, etc. Some are available in the Tech library, but some of the pictures and explanations could be made more thorough and plainer to a person with limited knowledge. You could add pictures and commentary to existing threads or have a brand new one on the same subject with better pictures and instructions.I appreciate what every one has contributed so far. It has helped me tremendously.Maybe one day V7 Goose will get the time to make some How To videos to sell, like I seen discussed in an earlier thread.I know I would buy a few.
  5. I have a 2007 RSV and have been thinking about changing my handlebars out with either the Tour Deluxe bars or the Flanders G2 bars.I have the GenMar risers now, but do not like how they hit the tank cowl and would like them to come back a little more.If any one has done this I would appreciate some input.I e-mailed Buckeye Performance and was sent a price list, but the total for every thing is close to $600.Does any one know if the Tour Deluxe cables and brake lines are 2 " longer than the Venture stock ones and will fit. I can buy stock cables and lines much cheaper than aftermarket.I would like to have the stainless braided ones, but out of my price range right now. Also, do we get a membership discount from Buckeye Performance ?
  6. ediddy,it came from www.canadiancruisercustomizing,com. This light is very bright. I ordered the 5000k because of what I had read in another thread by Buddy Rich. They also sell a 6000k at the same price, $49, which I thought was really cheap. I looked at another one at custom dynamics that looks like the same one and it was $159.I paid $63 total shipped to NW Fla.It is all plug and play except for running a dedicated hot wire.Just do a search for HID in the Second Generation forum and it should pull up Seakings original post.It took 8 days from when I ordered it to receive it.I thought that was pretty quick.
  7. I used a Drag Specialties Mini Tach that I bought from Hellriser Customs for $69 and a chrome P clamp from Formotion.com for $19 and mounted it next to the right master cylinder.I took a pair of vice grips, when I bolted had it in place, used an old shop rag wrapped around the bracket to the tach. and twisted it until it faced where I wanted. I now have a tach that is mounted almost in the same place as the Baron's Tach but at less than half the price. It's not as pretty as the Baron's, but it still looks pretty good and performs great.
  8. I figured it out.I went back and reread the other thread by Seaking about removing the headlight completely. After I did that I realized you had to twist the back where the bulb sits and it will seperate from the holder. Then you can slide the rubber protector over the bulb and then twist and lock back into the holder. This bulb is bright.I had a silverstar bulb previously and this is much brighter than it was, and draws less wattage.Couldn't ask for better.I haven't had a chance to ride and test it out on the road yet,but I think that this may be the best $63 I have spent on this bike so far. I just hope it lasts as long as they say.For the price, I may order another just to have on hand.
  9. Did any one have a problem reinstalling the weather seal on the back of the headlight when you did this conversion? The bulb seems to be too large to let the seal go over it or do you just cut a slit in it to get it to fit or leave it off. I am in the middle of the install and wanted to see what every one else did. Thanks.
  10. Ruffy, where did you get the LED's that are upright next to you saddlebags? They look to be run and brake lights.I really like them and would like to know part # and where they were purchased along with price. Thanks.
  11. I have'nt yet. It is still clear in the sight glass on the master cylinder.May change it soon though, because the clutch fluid is starting to get dark. I will do both at the same time.
  12. I have an 2007 RSV.I bought it used with 4,000 on it. I asked the salesman why it was traded in, and he said that an older guy had bought it and that it was too heavy for him and he traded it in on a GoldWing. That did not make any sense to me, because they weigh about the same. I bought it because I loved the color of the blue/black color combo and wanted a touring bike that was water cooled.I had rode my buddies Gold Wing and did not care for the ergonomics(seating position, leg room).I rode it home after i bought it and immediately noticed the whine. The more I rode it the louder it got.By the 8,000 mile mark, it was so loud it was hurting my ears.I have a feeling this was the reason it was traded.Through this forum, I learned about the I basket swap. I had the dealer order one and it remedied my problem. There is still a slight whine, but as others have said,I think that it is inherent to the bike. It's not near as bad as the belt whine I've heard on some of my Harley buddies that I ride with.I also ordered the leveling links from Diamond R and it is a totally different riding bike.It made it so much more easy to handle.I was very skeptical at first, but what everyone is saying about this mod is true.I know it hasn't worked as well for some on the basket swap, but it made mine be the bike I've always wanted.I hope you get it worked out.
  13. I see that most recommend the EBC brake pads for the RSV. I was wondering where to order for the best price. Also, has anyone had any problems with excessive disc wear due to using the HH sintered pads.I have got to do something, the stock pads just do not do a good job of hauling down 900 lbs. when you need it. Pretty scary when you are sqeezing the front brake lever real hard and pushing down on the back at the same time and the bike seems like it is taking forever to come to a stop.
  14. I se a couple mentions of disconnecting the rev limiter. My question is how is that done, and how high can you safely rev this engine and not hurt it?
  15. What company and phone and address did you have this done at?
  16. When I put mine on, I just snugged the rear bolts and left the front ones loose and pushed down hard on the rear corners till they were even all the way across and then tightened them down. They are level with the bottom of the bags now and didn't have to do anything but use a little force.
  17. First of all, let me say that I love My 2007 RSV,but I changed my spark plugs for the first time yesterday, and it wound up being a 2 hour job. It took longer than it does to do my 1996 Mazda V-6 pick up. After removing the seat and draining and removing the tank and the dog bone braces on the front of the engine,it is hard to get enough slack in the coil wires to get them out of the holes to be able to get to the spark plugs. This may be easy for some of you,but it was a pain in the rump for me. I learned a few tricks, so maybe it will go a little faster next time. It took an hour and 45 minutes to take off enough parts to get at the plugs and reassemble and 15 minutes to change the plugs. What a pain!
  18. Hey Cougar, Were you able ever able to get a setting for where your mixture screws were set at when you finished this procedure? I think I'm going to try this myself, and just see how it turns out.I'm going to turn my mixture screws in and count the turns so I can set them back where they were, just in case this doesn't turn out the way it is supposed to.I've had a mild popping and burbling on decel and think that maybe this will help. I bought a small Drag Specialities tach, 2" I think, from HellRiser Customs for $69.95 and used a Formotion handlebar clamp that I gave $19.95 for and mounted it next to my right hand master cylinder.Mounted in almost the same position as the Baron's tach that mounts on top of the master cylinder, at a fraction of the cost. It works real well, and has a blue backlight that matches the the color of my 2007 RSV.
  19. SleeperHawk, Just wondering if you wouldn't mind enlightening some of the rest of us on how you painted and marbelized the face plate to match the dash.It makes it look like it came that way from the factory.Very nicely done!
  20. Hey Ponch, you said you stopped and picked some up.Is there another source other than E-bay? Please tell what source you purchased yours from.
  21. For those who have this problem, this is what I did. I read all the post and decided to richen the pilot screws.I pried all the caps off the screws and adjusted them 1/4 turn out.I have k&n filters and had Harley Street Glide pipes. I took the harley pipes off and put the stock pipes back on,but with the rear cone removed and most of the rear baffle removed.I thought I had an exhaust leak at the clamp on the harley pipes and I thouight that's where the popping was coming from.I went back to the stock pipes because I knew they sealed good at the clamp.Still had the problem.Any way, enrichened the pilot screws and that seems to have fixed my popping.I'm gonna ride it this way for a while, but may wind up going another 1/4 turn just to make sure it is getting enough fuel.
  22. Yea,way too high on the labor rate. They do have good mechanics that seem to be some what knowledgeable on the RSV.I had the clutch basket changed to the I basket and they were very helpfull.I called and talked to the Service Manager and he ordered the I basket without even listening or test riding the bike.He called me 2 weeks later and told me it was in,and to bring the bike in at my convenience. They also have a program called tires for life. You pay $800 and they will supply the tires of your choice for as long as you own the bike, including mounting and balancing.I had 2 new Elite 3's put on at the same time of the clutch basket and signed ticket and walked out. They don't know it, but I'm gonna cost them a bunch of money.I like this bike, and will keep it a long time.
  23. I have a popping and burbling on my right exhaust pipe, especially on decelleration.AIS has been plugged.Resynced the carbs yesterday with Morgan Carb Tune.I had a set of Harley Street Glide pipes on it,found an exhaust leak at the clamp and thought that was what was causing the problem.Removed them and put stock exhaust with the end baffle removed back on.Still have the same problem.I checked the Y pipe for a leak and cannot see one,but that doen't mean its not there.Left side does not do this.It is smooth, like it is supposed to be.It is still under warranty, but if its not warranty work,My dealer where I bought the bike charges $120 per hour.I can't afford that right now.I hope some one here can help.Any ideas? The bike has 8500 miles on it and is a 2007 RSV.I thught about changing plugs. I don't think it will help, but stranger things have happened.
  24. Would taking the original cap apart and coating the spring and washer with dialectric grease be a preventative measure to keep it from corroding? Just wondering.
  25. V7 Goose,I went on the NGK website and could not find a listing for just the caps.Full wire sets only. Do you have a part # and a source where these can be ordered? I would like to order a set in case I start to have a problem.By the way, just wanted to say, THANKS,for all the work you have done on this and other projects.
