Engine Noise in Headsets
Hotrod replied to Hotrod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I took the seat and tank off and moved the intercom wires around and that did not help.Split the faring and pulled the connectors apart a couple times to make sure the pins were clean and shiny and put more dielectric grease on them, and that seems to have fixed the problem.Just wanted to let every one know what the outcome was. Thanks to every one for their posts and help. -
Problem removing lower fairing
Hotrod replied to Yamaman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine popped out the last time i had it off and I like to have never got it back in.I went to the auto parts store the next day and bought some speed nuts and screws. The next time I have to take it apart I'm going to replace them. -
Engine Noise in Headsets
Hotrod replied to Hotrod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Plugs are factory.Bike has 7,400 miles and has original plugs.I've got it blamed on the lead for the tach maybe being too close to the intercom wire.Just looking for ideas to check so when I take things apart,I can get it the first time without having to remove seat, tank, and possibly faring several times. -
Engine Noise in Headsets

You can put a small balloon or finger cot that fits tight over the mics and it will eliminate the wind noise in the headset without having to spend a lot of money. This is static that is constant and increases with engine speed.Doesn't get louder, just buzzes faster. -
I have A 2007 Blue/Black RSV. Lately, I've been having some engine noise static in my headset. Not bad, just annoying.Doesn't do it all the time, intermittent, comes and goes. I have a tach and was thinking that maybe the tach wire is too close to the headset wire at the neck where they come close together.I was going to wrap the coil wire to the tach in aluminum foil and then wrap with electrical tape and reposition the wires to see if that helps.Any one else had this problem? Is there any thing else I should be looking for?Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.Tach has been on about 8 months and have had a problem for about the last 2 months on and off.I don't know if that is it,but I can't think of what else it could be.Thanks.

My experiences with dealers, Yamaha and the "whine"
Hotrod replied to raceman62race's topic in Watering Hole
I had new Elite III's put on at my local dealer about 2 weeks ago. It's about a 40 mile ride home.I called one of my riding buddies that night and was telling him abiut the new tires. He asked if I had checked the tire pressure in the tires.I said no,I thought they should know the correct pressure, and he said he thought I should check any way.Good thing I did.Front tire had 26 psi and rear only had 30 psi. Both were 10 psi too low.Next time I will tell them what pressures I want when they install them.I normally check them every 2 to 3 weeks unless the temperature drops significantly. -
I had the I Basket installed yesterday and it eliminated about 80 to 85% of the whine in my 2007 RSV.You can barely hear it now.I don't know if it will come back, but it's good right now.I also had new Dunlop Elite III's put on front and rear in the stock sizes and it made a big difference in low speed handling. The front end no longer feels heavy in slow parking lot turns.Needless to say, I'm very happy with the results. My dealer also said that the bushing that the basket rides on is part of the problem with the whine. It wears enough to give the basket a small amount of play, which increases the whine.Supposedly this has been improved with the new baskets.I don't know if this is true or not,I guess time will tell.I'm happy for now.

Lucas makes a power steering fluid with a stop leak in it that makes shrinking seals swell back up . I would try pouring or spraying some on top of the seals and letting it sit over night, or for a couple of days if possible, to see if that will alleviate the problem before I Went to the expense of a fork rebuild. It is available at my local Wal-Mart and Advance Auto Parts.

a few clutch questions
Hotrod replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Can you replace the pressure plate disk with the replacement upgrade from PCW before your clutch starts slipping, to prevent any future problems? -
Maineac. You went to the wrong site. MotorSports SuperCenter.com is still cheaper,I just checked. I guess $1 or $2 dollars doesn't really matter, as long as you are satisfied with shipping and their service.

The cheapest place I've found overall is Motorsports Supercenter.com,especially on accessories. They are in Hamilton,Al.They have another web site MotorSportsSuperStore.com where you get 15% discount and only $4.95 shipping. The Supercenter web site is much cheaper, but you pay actual shipping cost.It is usually still cheaper unless you order a heavy item. They are even cheaper than South Seattle.

Does any one know if the halogen passing lamps for the RSTD will fit the RSV light bar?I am planning to buy a light bar,but would rather have the halogen lamps, if they will fit.The part # is STR-4NK35-10-01.By the way, the best price I have found for accessories is MotorsportsSupercenter.com in Hamilton,AL.They actually have 2 different websites. The other one is MotorsportsSuperstore.com.The cost is a little more, but it offers $5.95 shipping on all orders over $50 in USA. Just check both sites to get best overall price with shipping.

Does any one know where I can purchase red turn signal lenses for the rear of an RSV? I want to purchase a run-stop-turn module and will be needing red lenses.I know I can get red LED's ,but don't want to use a load equalizer and I like the self canceling turn signals.I have seen them on other member's bikes on this forum, but can't seem to find them anywhere.I also thought about using the Harley accessory tail light, but don't know if they could be wired to also function as turn signals.Any help would be greatly appreciated, such as where to buy, part #s,etc.
