I scraped all the West Texas bugs off last night and decided to apply the Raincoat. I used 1 packet and applied it on both sides of the windshield. I put it on thin after reading about the difficulty to buff off. Man, I wanted to get out a powere buffer!! It took me about 45 minutes to get both sides of the windshield polished. My initial thoughts are that this stuff better be good for the effort involved. I have been using Plexus for a long time with pretty decent results and a whole lot less effort. I also have a small container of stuff called Zooke that I like for shields and glasses. I will compare all three before passing judgement. JB

Yay on the Mac's Yay on the fork brace. Anyone want on old style 2" thick superbrace? I have $25.00 invested from e-bay. Seems to be about .005-.007 wider than my forks will handle. Don't want to loosen all my pinch bolts up to try and squeeze it in as the mfg. suggested. JB

I was wondering when you would chime in. I guess you got the delayed action version. I must have been right behind you guys on the way home. I am about 90% tonight. I ate solid foods today and they stayed solid. YEA!!! Tell Ham to give me a yell and maybe we can all get together for a better meal. Thanks for all the good wishes from everyone. I guess we all need to be reminded about the perils of bad food once in a while. JB

Weird trike type thing but I bet it's a blast to run. Probably too expensive once it gets to the U.S. Can I put a small block in it? JB

Yep - slow cranking 1983-1993 Ventures are common. Many things to check and a few modifications to do. Let's see if I can list mine: 1. Check and clean all electrical connections and coat with di-electric grease This includes the starter, solenoid, battery, ignition, and starter button circuits 2. A good battery of known quality. Many here swear by the Odyssey series. I used a high ampere hour sealed battery with great luck. (Note: may need to modify the battery sensor for the dash indicator if there isn't a sensor hole in battery) 3. Upgrade all battery cables to 4 gauge. You can buy them in the classified section on this site. 4. Check all fuses and holders. The glass fuse clips lose tension and break. Consider replacing with an ATC fuse holder. I did and feel it was my best modification. 5. Pull starter and dis-assemble to clean out the years of brush dust. Maybe fresh brushes and an armature cleaning and a bit of lube. 6. I even changed out my main fuse to a maxi-fuse holder. 7. Moved my accessory hot and ground from clip together connectors to ring lugs right on the battery. 8. Check the output of the stator at the 3 wire plug. This is an AC circuit before the regulator. Clean the plug and use di-electric grease. 9. Change your oil (and filter) to a good multi-viscosity just in case you have some straight 50 weight on a cold morning. I use 15w-50 Mobile 1 but there are many opinions on what is best. 10. MEET OTHER VENTURE RIDERS AND ASK FOR HELP. WE ARE TINKERERS!! WE ENJOY BEING BRIBED WITH FOOD IN EXCHANGE FOR REPAIRS. After doing all of the above I have no cranking problems from a tested 29deg. F. up to hot starts at almost 100deg. F. Reliable as all hell and charges great. Plenty of power for a set of driving lights and no voltage drops. I haven't listed all the voltage measurements and/or drops here as I am sure you can find them by searching. Also searching and reading the many threads on the subject will give you insight as to your plan of attack. I have even posted pictures of the fusebox change. JB

Wish I had some Cipro or even Augmentin! I agree that deep frying should have fixed any e. coli but what about the gravy? Don't know and don't care now. Just glade to be home and safe in my own bathroom!! JB

After months of planning I went to Big Bend this past weekend. It was supposed to be 4 days of riding and sightseeing. The first night we stayed at the Marathon Hotel. Nice place and great courtyard to have a gathering after a ride. We at at the OASIS CAFE down the street. We left the next morning to end up in Terlingua. At about 4 in the afternoon I began to get indigestion. We ate supper at the Starlight Theatre and Cafe. By 4:30 that next morning 2 of us were visited by Montezuma and his revenge!! It was ugly. Spent the night in the bathroom on the john with a trash can in front of me. So weak the next morning that I went straight to Ft. Davis and checked in early. By 10am a third in our group was visited. He made it in by noon. We spent all of Saturday in our rooms and missed the stargazing and all the riding.. On Sunday we left at different times (no sightseeing). I checked out at noon and started home. I planned my trip home to possibly take 2 days. The others started at 9am. I got in at 7pm and almost fell off the bike. Still sick as a dog and will lose tomorrow at work as well. THE ONLY FOOD IN COMMON TO THE 3 THAT GOT SICK WAS THE CHICKEN-FRIED STEAK AT THE OASIS IN MARATHON. The other 4 people were ok. It was worse than simple food poisoning. I drank almost 4 gallons of water between Sat. in the AM and Sunday night. It all went out the wrong way. I won't go into more details. Just want to warn people that the OASIS CAFE is now off limits for me! It is a small hole in the wall place. We all at at the Starlight-different foods and common appetizers. Nothing in common between the 3 there. Enough for now, going to go drink more water and eat a couple pieces of bread. JB

Check the plugs! I left off a plug on the bottom once and only got partial functions. Do the PTT switches seem to work? JB -
Actually, a lot of us see this as an interesting way to meet people. I am not in this route but I would be glad to help out. It is often a good excuse to meet up with old friends. JB

Just find a trailer and relay it up. Might take 3-4 weeks but it could be the meet and eat and hand-off. JB

I had a chance to run mine a bit in Big Bend this weekend. They really help in the curves. Also pick off street signs. I simply upgraded the hardware and put a safety screw in the bezel. I do notice that the bulb is a bit loose now. I think the compression foam behind the bulb needs some engineering. Or perhaps a gasket between the bezel and the bulb. Would need to be high temp material. For the money they work great. JB

I always use Murphy's Oil Soap for big cleaning jobs then I use a good leather/vinyl conditioner that doesn't leave the seat slick. I stay away from anything with petroleum products. I usually pick silicone based or natural based. JB

Thanks for the chance to try the product. I will make sure to evaluate and report back to here and Moto Solutions. JB

I am interested. Don't mind coughing up a few bucks for shipping either. JB

Here is a link for the Hustler quick disconnects. Also Clay's has a couple of short antennas that are suitable for use with AM/FM. The Firestick series antenna can have a splitter box put to them. I used a CB antenna only, removed the splitter, and then installed a hidden amplified AM/FM radio antenna http://www.claysradioshop.com/acc_antennamounts-brackets-page2.htm JB

I believe that antenna is suitable for AM/FM reception only. NOT CB!! Hustler and Wilson make fold down adaptors. I will check and repost. JB

Sorry to see the damage. Glad you are ok. I am leaving town Thurs. thru Sun. When I get back let me know if you need a hand on anything. Don't forget to get yourself checked out. JB

Hangs on the keyring with my dogtag - the one with a kicknotch! Always good for something. Maybe if that foil pouch on the MRE gets kinda tough!! JB

I will pass on this one. All I have to do is pull out of the garage!! Good luck northerners. JB

I use the J and M 277 series for a 3/4 helmet. I looked carefully before purchasing. You need to go expensive enough to get the better microphone. After that it depends on your preference. J and M makes a decent set for 1/2 helmets. The budget sets have the basic mic and speakers. Also, the cord hooks in from the front and is one piece. The 250 series and 270 series have a smaller cord and it has a connector about 12" from the helmet. 250 and 270 both use the same cord. In the 3/4 or full-face helmets the better speakers do seem to make a difference. I purchased my headsets from Sierra-MC. I cound not have asked for better service. The rep. knew my bike and its system. He recommended headsets based both on my bike and my expected use. I wanted them in time for a weekend ride and they went the extra measure to get them out 3 day select service so that I had them. I have not tried EdSets or others as of yet. JB

Ok folks - now for something completely different. The City of Buda, Texas Lions Club hosts an event every spring. It is the WEINER DOG RACES!! That's right, two days of dachsund racing and other fun stuff. The festivities are on April the 26th and 27th this year. The "Run for the Roses" is on Sunday afternoon. Anybody up for an afternoon of "hot" dog racing? This is like the 13th annual race. We will be going up on Sunday just to have fun. JB

Nice color and a fantastic road machine. You will get a lot of ribbing. However if this group doesn't poke at you then they don't laove ya no more! I say that being able to take along a passenger who loves to ride with you is the most important aspect here. Post pictures of the 2 of you on a bike (in front of a lighthouse!!) soon. JB

Ok pretty straight forward once you see the screws. Around the perimeter of the C.B. and C.L.A.S.S. panels are allen head screws. They might be covered by plastic caps. Pop the caps and watch where they fly! Then carefully remove the allen screws. Lift straight up and hold panel while watching small pieces of plastic fall from the screw hole areas:whistling: The recessed screw pockets often break out. Don't worry they can be repaired. Unplug the various electrical connectors and then unscrew the coax. There are 2 individual wires with small round bullet connectors-look for them. Now you can start on the mods. YOu may aso end up pulling the radio side to access the antenna connection on that side. Also go ahead and remove the false tank cover and seat. I have a write up on my modifications to my 1986. I split the antennas and installed a Wilson. The radio has an amplified antenna in the fairing. Good luck and check back if you need other ideas. Many here have done these modifications. Here are my mods: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19716 JB
