  1. Thanks a bunch "Buddy-ro"! I will do that first thing tomorrow. I got tired of trying to do it in the dark and gave up. (LOL) I saw all those little caps around the CB and CLASS but weren't sure they were supposed to come off. Later
  2. Hi! Sorry to sound so dumb, but I have always had problems anytime I have had to get into the front fairing on my 1st gen Venture. I am trying to do the Marshall Mod and put a Firestick on my bike (the coax for my stock antenna has some damage to it so I am replacing the whole thing). Problem is that I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get into the CB part of the right front fairing. I have searched high and low on the forum to see if there are any pics of this fairing disassembly on here, but to no avail. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks,
  3. AMEN, Bother. The stock spark plug tool in the kit is only for emergencies on the road. Definately use a good socket and universal joint to change the plugs. I also left off the plastic heat shields on top of the cam covers when I changed mine. I've noticed no ill results and it makes changing the plugs so much quicker.
  4. Hi Kevin, My '87 started doing the same thing recently after a plug change. My bike had sat for a while before the plug change and I finally decided some trash had accumulated in one of the carbs. I bought some seafoam and put about half a can in a full tank of gas and rode that out, the the other half in the next tank. After this another can adding as specified on the can. It usually disolves anything but the most solid of debris in the fuel system and also gets rid of any moisture that may have accumulated from the bike sitting around. Hope this helps your problem.
  5. Well, just support the right candidate for President. Mike Huckabee says the first thing he will do if elected is "put a going out of business sign on the IRS door." I believe him!
  6. If you don't have any big plans for tomorrow, aren't riding anywhere or otherwise occupied, how about a show of support for the Fair Tax Act. I am going to do my best to make this rally tomorrow... http://www.fairtax.org/site/Calendar/843229392?view=Detail&id=105621 Hope to see some of the Atlanta area members there. Boody
  7. Thanks, again, George! Man, you are a life saver. I was thinking possibly a short somewhere, but had not idea where to start looking for it. I'll get right on this. It would explain some other wierd electrical gremlins that have caused other miscelaneous problems that I have seen since owning this bike... (Radio blinks out from time-to-time, sometimes the air compressor doesn't display when the switch is in the accessory position, and also the cruise problem). I'll keep you updated.
  8. Haven't thought about that Jeremy, but thanks. I'll check it out. Just have to figure out hot to get the housing apart.
  9. Well, I finally got all the bugs out of the starter clutch problem that I was having. Thanks for everyone's input on the problem to help me diagnose it and make the repairs, especially GeorgeS (he was a really big help and couldn't have done it without his telephone assistance). Now I have another wierd problem that reared it's ugly head for only the second time since I have owned this Venture (19 months so far). I needed to give my throtle hand a rest when riding today and decided to set the cruise. I hit the power button on the cruise module, all the lights indicated proper functioning and the pressed the "set" control on the handlebar. The bike immediately lost all electrical function and died. After coasting to the side of the road, I turned the ignition off and then back to the run position. The bike started right up. I made it home, but was afraid to try the cruise again for fear of the same results. In case you are wondering if this may be somehow tied to my starter clutch repairs... I don't think so. The cruise did this exact same thing once before back last fall. After that incident it has worked flawlessly untill today. Any ideas?
  10. I've owned a 1983 and still own a 1987 Venture Royal (as well as a 1980 XS850G inbetween the two) and have run the 15W40 Rotella in all of them. Try searching the Venturer's web site too. They also have several recomendations for this oil in the Venture and V-Max bikes.
