  1. Here are the 2 diagrams. In the schematic it is item 77. It is a set of capacitors. The plug from the radio harness is where you can jump. The R/L wire goes to the R/B wire and the R/Br goes to the R. Ground is immaterial for the jump. One set of wires id constantly hot for radio memory and the other set is switched. You will power the radio but I cannot say how much noise the supressor blocks. In the pictorial the item is #15 just to the upper left of the cassette. I am replacing the factory supressor with a different set. A bit karger and they have both a choke coil and a capacitor. I am getting ignition noise through my CB side. So I figured to replace the radio side as well. How long can a capacitor continue to function? These are over 20 years old. And if you think about it an ignition condensor is in essence the same thing and they DO go bad. Visually you are looking for a black box about 1" by 2" with a couple green speed nuts on mounting flanges. It has a bout a 6" pigtail with a 5-6 wire connector on it. Mounted in the front of the inner fairing and you have to remove the speaker grill trim to access the attaching screws. JB
  2. I will dig the wiring up tonight and copy it for you. Just got home from work. Give me a bit to eat and such. JB
  3. I have a spare in my parts bucket. Factory originsl and tested on Mocha. Small block with a plug that bolts to the upper forward area of the inner left fairing. It is just 2 capacitors that go across the positive leads. You can jump the radio plug and take it out of the circuit. There are 2 positive leads. One for the radio memory that is hot all the time. The other is switched. If you want to test the radio I can dig out diagrams and tell you which wires to jump. Or you can PM your address and I will mail you my spare. JB
  4. This is a ride I was interested in for the Stampede. I think I have the Rider magazine. If not, someone please save it for me. If I recall there were 3 different distances depending on the route. JB
  5. A bare differential without drive shaft usually goes for about $100.00 to $150.00 on eBay. This would be for the 1983-1993 1st generation. I have seen the high priced buy it now units. They usually sit until the auction expires. I guess it depends on your desire to sell and whether it is an item you need or want to save. I was outbid on one at $99.99 about a month ago. I think the winning bid was just over that plus $25.00 shipping. JB
  6. I would count on 2 days. Getting used to a new bike could take a bit of time. It is easier to count on more days and use less. I ran 600 in one day on Mocha and was tired by the time I hit the hotel. A lot easier to run a short 2nd day. JB
  7. Black Owl came up with a rack. His offer was good so we just need to make the exchange. Thanks everyone. I will post my results on the rack project. JB
  8. I have a great trunk. I am looking for the mounting bracket only. The piece that the trunk sits on. Not the accessory rack on the lid. JB
  9. I am looking for the trunk rack for my first gen. Mine is good but I want to modify one for a rear setback of about 2 inches. I am watching one on e-bay but don't want to get in a bidding war if it is someone who has a broken one. If anyone has such a critter, let me know if you want to sell it. JB
  10. Hop all goes well. As you saw, I use cheaters for reading. And that is with contact lenses. Bad eyes and had the choice of good from 3-4 feet and out or good up close. I'll keep an EYE out for the results so to speak. JB
  11. Most items will need to be custom made, modified, or purchased used. As the bike has been out of production for 25 years the markets is pretty dry. I haven't seen anythig on the ring of fire. Usually when I find something at a good price I buy it whether I need it or not. Figure someone will want it or I can trade it. JB
  12. Send me a PM with your e-mail address of choice. I have a word document with some pictures describing exactly what you want to accomplish. JB
  13. Forgot- there aren't any companies that currently produce a floorboard/heel-toe shifter kit for the first generation. Used only. I have seen them go from $300-$500 on ebay. JB
  14. Make sure you are looking at the correct items. The Marklands on e-bay were highway boards. A derivative of highway pegs. True floorboards go in place of your footpegs and usually come with a different brake pedal and heel-toe shifter system. The other type-highway fasten to the crash bars and are used out on the road as an alternative foot position. All a matter of terminology. Had a guy once call a windscreen/windshield a fairing. Said the bike had a new fairing. Actually had a new windshield and a very broken fairing. JB
  15. Not a speaker connector. Speaker wiring is high up in the fairing. I think they are white. Give me a better picture of where it is. I am putting in noise filters Saturday on my 1986 and I will take a look. JB
  16. I believe DOT 5 is silicone based fluid. High temp rating and better moisture resistance. However not compatible with DOT 3 and 4 rubber goods. JB
  17. I am checking the same thing. The hookup is USB. The wiring isn't coax. The XM receiver is in the antenna and then sends the information to the unit. So, it stands to reason that it has a power, ground, and a set of signal wires. I will let you know if I find an answer. JB
  18. If you need a place to work from in the U.S. I don't mind helping out. I realize I am in Texas. I got the 277 series and the 8154 series. Put them in Scorpion EXO200 helmets. I believe there isn't a great difference in the speakers for the 1st gen system. However the microphone in the 277 is better. Smaller and has a greater noise rejection. JB
  19. Hi all, Had a great time Sat. 1st ride since the gravy! Food was good and the road was fun. I followed Bigshell out of Fayetteville. He set his GPS to find home and we followed the roads it gave us. Have to say that that GPS ran us down some nice riding. Pleasant roads and an easy run. I agree with Bigshell. The GPS may send you a bit off at times but it gets you there and you find good roads. Looking forward to the next meet. Ponch-Julia says she will ask for the day off next time. Thanks Don. Tell our ride captain good job. And good job on showing the nice lady at Fayetteville how nice baggers ride compared to a 750 Honda w/out a backrrest. JB
  20. I like TxVenture went with Markel American. They were friendly and efficient. My cost with Geico was almost $700.00 per year. I carry 2X Texas minumum on all counts. Under and uninsured along with lots of small extras. The exact same coverages with Markel Bikeline is $260.00 per year. They were recommended by a lot of people on base here at Fort Sam. As a note, I have my cages and my renter's insurance with Geico! JB
  21. Hey big birdie- Sent you money via paypal for a brace in natural aluminum. PM me your address and I will ship off the old Superbrace over the next few days. JB
  22. I am leaving San Antonio at 6 AM. Should get me in in plenty of time. I will be running I10 into Middlefield. Then I believe 362 up to 359. It is a straight shot from there to the meet. JB
  23. I got to ride one of these today for about an hour. Sits like a sport to sport tour bike. Rotax motor has 106hp. It will flat out scream. 5 speed trans with clutch. Steers like a 4 wheeler on the street. Felt strange twisting bars around corners. Went down a gravel area and felt very stable. Pulled off the road to wait for other riders. Gravel and ruts that would have flipped a bike were no problems. Reverse is COOL!! I would like it as a second bike. It is not currently a touring machine. Windscreen is low, ride position is agressive. Front trunk is big. Also has a 12VDC connector. The one factory representative was an obnoxious S.O.B. and I ended up leaving without taking any pictures. It really was a shame. He ruined an excellent experience. JB
  24. I will be in for a brace. I remembered to get my camera back from Mocha so I can take pics of the one I have. Been busy on a couple other projects. I decided to fix the light bulbs in my tourpack. Boy what a can of worms! Removed lens, didn't like bulbs. Ordered l.e.d.'s and installed. Looked great-ordered more l.e.d.'s Now I am in for about 150 of the critters and a bunch of wiring. I will send you the pics tonight. JB
  25. Ok- Normally don't get too involved in other folks health. The following may be a bit morbid. As a diabetic your body does not heal as well. Circulation is compromised to your lower extremities. Your veins and arteries are not as healthy. Your nervous system doesn't transmit all the signals and is not as acute. You can injure yourself and not realize it until later. The injuries will not heal without a lot of careful work. As is evidenced by the ulcer you currently have. You are more prone to infection because of this. The infected part (toe) cannot heal and gets worse. Gangrene sets in and the part needs to be removed. Quite possibly further damage results from ignoring the problem. Sepsis can set in and be carried by the bloodstream to other parts of the body. So let me tell you about the diabetics I have seen who don't pay attention and put off health care. First a few toes, then a foot. Finally both legs off at the knees and in a wheel chair. A shunt for kidney dialasis in the arm and both kidneys in renal failure!! I am not talking about 1 or 2 people. I have seen this over the years in dozens of people. Go Now!!! I don't want to visit you in a dialasis center in a few years to say my final goodbye's. No matter about the riding season. Take care of yourself and watch the blood sugar. Do what the doctor says and you and I will be able to see each other at M&Es for a long time. If this doesn't work, I have pictures in my files where I teach this every day. They are gross, ugly, and repulsive. Just ask and I will be happy to give you copies. I know it gets old and tiring to keep up on diabetes. Some days you want to say F*** it all. Call me on those days and we will talk. Good luck at the doctor's MONDAY and with the surgery NEXT WEEK. Pullin' for you, JB
