Also, if you bought your bike used, how do you know it's not lowered? Do you know the previous owner?

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=AFB1+fork&_sacat=0&_odkw=AFB1&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313 There's 2 of them on ebay right now.

I don't see why they wouldn't work. Centramatic truck wheel balancers use a stainless steel shot in the rings. Old timey truckers often used golf balls to balance their tires. I just went to Centramatics website and they now offer automatic balancers for Harleys and Goldwings.

It's not warranty if he installed extra lighting/GPS/SPOT/ or any other number of electrical add ons himself and the wiring is to that is at fault.

A fella I knew in Amarillo owns a used bike lot. He doesn't give much for a bike if it has more than 50,000 miles on it. He says that he knows that there's nothing wrong with the bikes, but buyers don't like buying bikes with that many miles on it and he can't afford to sit on the bike for that long.

Does he have driving lights on it? Sometimes the wires to the lights get pinched in the neck. What kind of electrical add ons does he have?

Ive never seen or heard of lowers for an older Royal Star. The closest I would guess would be crash guard chaps if he has the large crash bar. http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTJCF9wXTT1Awo2jgcIwW9DSdNmopXEttfjq_ieXtCPvNxwr7D7yg&t=1 http://xchoppers.com/images/Pac-A-Derm.jpg http://www.harley-davidsonforums.com/gallery/files/7406_enginegaurdchapsback.jpg

Downloading question
flb_78 replied to Aimhigh's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
I also have HughesNet. 200meg in 24hrs allowed. Every time something loads on the screen, me meter moves a little. If I hit a flash based website, it moves a lot!! I don't like satellite internet, but it's the only option I have at my location. No DSL, no cable, no cell phone service, no wireless internet service, nothing, nada.- 7 replies

I believe you were the first and I was the 2nd to put car tires on our Ventures and you only beat me because you received your tire first!! Yeah, I remember the good ole days and the "debates". edit... Just for shiggles, I went back to some of the first threads. It appears that "oldman" was the first and I was the 2nd. It's kinda sad to go through those posts and see all the members who are no longer with us on the forum.

Replacing Air Filters
flb_78 replied to uechi kid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
no problems running lean running the K&N's. The intake piping is the major restriction. Just FYI, K&N's let in more dirt. http://forums.nicoclub.com/debunking-the-k-n-myth-why-oem-is-better-t180100.html -
About the only thing one could do to stop it would be to sand off the rust and paint the bases. I too like the look of the whip antennas vs. the fiberglass ones. My AM/FM fell off last year and I just put a $10 universal antenna on it from AutoZone. It looks like hell, but it works. I have plans to replace both antennas with a set of CB whips from Radio Shack this summer when funds are more available. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102661

I believe the manual states 3.9qts for an oil and filter change. Most folks here do 3.5qts because the v-4 will spit some oil out if you put in 3.9qts. I believe Baron's is the only company to offer a 4-2-4 exhaust. If you could post a picture of the pipes, if could be verified that they are Baron's. If they are, they're fairly expensive pipes. Yes, the carbs have a heater circuit. Many pull the fuse to take the load off the charging system and find almost no difference in startup.

http://noisecancelingheadphones.tk/product/0/Cobra-EXTERNAL-NOISE-CANCELING-CA-M29BT-EXT/ This might work. You'd have to cut off the connector and adapt it to use the #1 and #4 pin on the headset connector. Just clip this to your jacket or shirt collar and you would then still be able to use the PTT on the left handlebar. There are plenty of 5 pin DIN connectors on ebay selling for around $1 that you could solder onto the cord.

all you need is a pinout of the connector. there's one here on the site somewhere and could use about any microphone you wanted. You wouldn't need one with a PTT on it because the PTT is already mounted on the left handlebar. I believe you'd only need 2 wires, but I could be wrong. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=26770&highlight=headset+pinout Found it, looks like you'd need Pins 1 and 4.

Sweet. I see a new side business of selling personal info from this site!!

The last four digits of the DOT code on the tire is the date code. First 2 numbers are the week the tire was manufactured and the last 2 numbers are the year. So a date code of 0909 would be the 9th week of 2009. I have no idea what the 20 would be unless they were going by the date THEY received the tires from their supplier and they gave your their date code and not the ones on the actual tire. I doubt the fella answering the phone would physically have the exact tire that they are going to ship to you at his desk to give you the date code off of it.

Power outlet as a battery charger
flb_78 replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, if you wire an aux plug to the battery, you could use it to attach a battery maintainer. You will need to know what size wire your outlet will have to determine your fuse size. The wires on a factory outlet are only rated for about 5 amps so the one you're getting off ebay will probably only be able to safely carry 5 amps depending on the length of wire. You may be able to disassemble it and solder some new, heavier wires onto it to increase the amperage allowance. -
I'd first put a volt meter on the battery when you try to crank and see how much the voltage drops. If that shows ok, hold the starter button down and turn the ignition key SLOWLY. You may find the magic spot so that it will start if it is the ignition switch.
